As a former educator. There’s so many red flags about the hair unbraiding video. The fact that it’s only the girls working on his hair, to recording their faces and putting them on the internet for everyone to see. Also, not teaching his students clear boundaries. Even if he didn’t mean for it to come across as bad, it’s not a good look. He clearly cares more about clout than the education and safety of those students.

And this grooming process extends to the parent(s) of the victim(s) and often their surrounding community. This endears the perpetrator to the victims' supposed support systems. It ironically casts the perpetrator in a more "trusted role" within the family's dynamic, granting them unfettered access to their innocent target(s). Additionally, it makes it so the victim is less likely to be believed by their own brainwashed family/community when they finally work up the nerve to tell someone.
Which further isolates the victim, pushing them deeper into the clutches of their calculating ab*ser.

Did I see a hand in his self pity podcast rubbing his BACK?! 🤣 On a serious note, when I was in third grade I was severely neglected by my parents leaving me with matted hair, no coat in the winter time, and no food for lunch regularly. I had two black wimminz teachers help me-one gave me a coat and brushed my hair out and the other took me out to eat at a restaurant.
I think it was Outback. I hadn't been to a restaurant until that age. Had they been up to no good, I would've fallen right into their hands. I'm grateful they were good. But they did it the right way, they pulled me into the principal's office and it was a collaborative effort.
There are ways to help your students and be a positive role model in their life, but do it the RIGHT way. Protect the kids and protect yourself.

Exactly!!! The right thing to do was reschedule the hair appointment so that he had time to unbraid his hair. Asking his students to do it for him, even without any future sexual intention on his part, is at least an abuse of his authority over them. He is using their unpaid labour for non-academic purposes. He's not asking them to do a favour for the class, it's purely a personal favour. And as a professional, he is obligated to keep his relationship with his students professional. You can like your students and have a great time with them without making them feel like they're your friend or your help. He should use their admiration of him to teach them more effectively, to inspire them to love school, not for his own benefit. That's just manipulation.
Also, most teachers I see online make sure that they do not include children in their videos unless it is for specific purposes approved by the parents. He's violating their boundaries in that way too, because I don't see a single parent agreeing to this use of their child's image on social media.

For the braids teacher, if this was a group of little white girls, I really believe he would’ve thought twice before even allowing them to touch his hair and posting. I saw a comment that said that this is amazing because they may not have a father figure but one to assume that they have don’t have a father figure is problematic and two if even if they didn’t have a father figure, you have no right to cross the boundaries in that way. Truthfully black girls are more vulnerable to stuff like this and it’s up to the public to call people out even when it seems like they’re doing a good thing.

💯That is such a good point. I also believe that he would not have done this with those girls PARENTS around! People really don’t pay attention. This man KNOWS he isn’t supposed to be doing that. Just like he was wrong for the “emo” video. They are sneaky, even in the light of day. It is shocking the way these people set up their environments (including the occupations they choose). Putting themselves in the closest position they can to a child. The next mission is winning the child’s trust and even loyalty. The next is to get their defenses down. The fact that he behaved the way he did as he doubled down in his videos shows his lack of maturity, which is also another red flag for predators. They have stunted emotional intelligence and find it very easy to skin-walk as a child’s “bestie”. The denial of these folks is ALARMING. 3 out of 5 women have been SA’d, and that is because of the toxic thinking we are seeing here. Do we want to keep doing the same thing so a new generation of girls are forced to grow up into emotionally damaged women with no sense of boundaries. Then they will tell these same women that they need to have more “self-worth”.

The people defending him are worse imo. He’s an authority figure. Boundaries are not a suggestion, they are a must. They are for his protection and the students. What if he gives one of them a bad grade and they retaliate? Even if his intentions were innocent, why allow children to think this ok when the next time it could actually be a predator. Plus, people are acting like predators whole point isnt to disarm you so you don’t question their intentions. They also look for positions of trust, like in churches, schools and healthcare. This man was texting his students as well as him referring to them as besties. Now there’s a video of him thirsting after a 16 year old on TikTok. I’m not sure if it’s his looks or if people are just desperate to see more black male educators because from an objective standpoint this appears to be grooming behavior as Jessie stated.

He used to make u ls feel sooo comfy with him and he was not far in age from us that when we graduated and he reached out to us all to hang out and attend his parties with his over 21 crew we didn’t see any harm. We grown now let’s hang out. But he definitely tried to make a move on me after a couple yrs and I was so grossed out that I distanced myself but these were things he let us do. Cut in his class, he’d order us lunch from outside stores, we could stay late he’d chaperone, make jokes that made us look at him as one of us and not a “teacher”, he was a photographer so he used to take maddddd pics of the students for “memories” but looking back I’m like 🤔. This situation really made me realize me and my homegirls were groomed by our HS teacher and didn’t even notice it.

Initially I thought it was okay too, but I thought about the time my niece took my braids out and she’s 13. She said to me after she was done “I feel like we just bonded on a deeper level”. It doesn’t matter if the parents gave consent or not because we already know that parents sometimes make bad judgement calls. And it also doesn’t matter if he’s a well liked teacher or not. A lot of women are standing up for this and as women we need to exercise better discernment.

Fired and not allowed to teach is exactly right for that former teacher! Regardless of the intimacy or the act, etc., he was filming and streaming minors without their consent --and they cannot give consent anyway. Schools have to have parents sign waiver release forms for when they use your children's imagery. Every time. So he knew he was wrong, he's wrong just by the principle. That alone is unprofessional, unethical, and I really think it's probably illegal (and think about who might watching that stream and what other things he might've been opening those children up to by livestreaming them. Everything on the internet lasts forever and this going viral is the proof). Everything you said was spot on, Jessie!

It's a slippery slope when teachers (no matter the gender) step out of their professional role. Children are impressionable and easily influenced. Demoting oneself and making oneself comparable to students, and downplaying the role as friends rather than a caring and kind but firm leader is how grooming starts. Even if there's no harmful intentions on his end, it can cause the students to feel they don't have to listen and have privileges because the teacher is their friend. "I don't have to turn in my homework this week because we're cool, he'll understand I'm so tired from my sports workouts." No, no, no. He could've paid the stylist to remove his braids or at least planned better for the appointment.

I am so disgusted right now. As a former teacher, teacher educator, parent, and woman, I cannot believe that ANYONE in their right mind thinks it is appropriate for a teacher to ask students to do anything to their hair or any aspect of their person in a classroom or elsewhere. Not only is it unprofessional, but it is highly inappropriate. All I have to say is that he needs to be grateful that my daughter was not in his head doing anything, and that I am not the principal or superintendent as he would be jobless. This society has gotten out of control. Anything goes these days, and people justify their behavior at any cost! Children are not protected by big brands (Balenciaga), by the community, by parents, by pastors, by teachers, by the government, the entertainment industry, or even the FDA(who allows chemicals and toxic ingredients to be in foods highly consumed by children)---I could go on and on.
And, this dude has the nerve to create a video with a voiceover? Who gave him permission to record these students and publish it as an employee of the district? Parents have to submit permission to have their children's images and recordings published by the school.
Lastly, the fact that these young girls are writing letters to him and he is crying about what they said is giving "Stockholm Syndrome." I just want to vomit. We live in an extremely SICK world.
By the way, in my 19 years as college professor, I would never even go to lunch or dinner with my students who were 17 to 65, depending on the course. They were all women majoring in education. They all knew that once they GRADUATED, we could go to lunch. These were grown women but I understand what professionalism is and maintained it at all times. I just can't imagine what is in the mind of someone who thinks that young girls in a grown man's hair is appropriate.😮

He should not be a teacher or work with children because he still doesn't understand it was wrong. Also, I find it sickening that people actually heard your story and blamed you for asking a "trusted" teacher for a ride. Ppl think just because this teacher hadn't SA'd his students, DOESN'T mean that he isn't making them vulnerable to being SA'd or taken advantage of by another authority.
One thing that stuck out to me was his argument that he wanted to "support" their aspirations to be cosmetologist. If that was true, why not buy them mannequin heads or hands to practice on instead of you?

I initially didn't think there was anything wrong with the whole braids teacher situation, but i also hadn't seen the video. This video was my first time actually seeing it and the commentary of his video was very unsettling - him calling them his best friends was so strange to me, WHAT BUSINESS DO YOU HAVE BEING BESTIES WITH YOUR STUDENTS. There HAS to be boundaries with teachers there is nothing wrong with students admiring and really getting along with teachers, but it's a teacher's place to set boundaries and let it be known that they aren't friends and that realistically that if they weren't related or family friends they wouldn't even be interacting. Teachers like this who make students feel like they're friends are playing into power imbalances, not only are they older they also have authority.

You talking about the way certain sexual predators know about intimacy reminds me of the Mica Miller situation. And so many cases where a grown adult would have that intimacy with the child and then once the child is old enough to consent or becomes an adult, whichever comes first, that’s when they make their move. It’s very predatory. And I immediately got that from the teacher. He’s wrong for that. And he should keep his relationship with his students purely professional. They’re his students, not his bestie. And since they’re not related to him by blood, association (church, etc.)-which should not even matter anyway, it’s still wrong. I grew up in the American school system and I never had feelings for any of my male teachers. They set boundaries that should not be crossed. Even when some girls would literally be wild. I remember having a 9th grade teacher that so many girls had a crush on, and I was minding my business. If that teacher didn’t make a clear boundary and accepted what the girls were doing, he would be in the sex offender list. When these young kids are learning about their feelings, and know what they’re doing when acting on it, the adults need to be the bigger person and make a clear boundary that they won’t not only compromise themselves or another child cause they felt some connection. That teacher is in trouble ngl

We had a teacher in high school that we all had a crush on and lemme tell you, he would NEVER! That man had amazing boundaries and was always appropriate.

That Teacher needs to be fired. completely inappropriate and creates boundaries issues with impressionable youth. The performance video reiterated my stance. His lack of accountability and attention seeking actions is problematic. The fact that the kids have access to message him on social media makes me uncomfortable, I don’t want my kids teachers friending them on social media

Omg watching the stem teacher with the students reminded me so much of one of my previous experiences in education in stem: a lot of teachers (young, attractive, male) were like that. Not in a R. Kelly way (because it was with girls/boys and not touching ppl), but more in a "give me attention" way. I had to leave the situation because I felt the same was required from me as a collaborator (and we are not doing that in 2024, as educated women). These false prophets really are narcissists disguised as teachers who pretend to want to propel the youth forward. 🤨

He coulda paid the hairdresser extra money to unbraid his hair. For anyone that doesn’t understand the intimacy surrounding dealing with someone’s hair watch that episode of Snowfall when Franklin’s mother started braiding Leon’s hair and see how he broke down.
