    Remember car enthusiasts, I always have more helpful information in the description. I mentioned common vacuum leaks, I see on Ford trucks and other vehicles. The most common leaks I see on vehicles in general are vacuum hoses and the intake hose, but rarely the intake manifold itself. Okay, I gave a little here, which wasn't in the description, but there's still MORE in the description. Lol

      Ian Hawking sure gets a lot of free advertising from me. Lol He lives in England. Wrote the app so he could know if his knocks sensors were knocking when his boosted Subaru was pushing 350 wHP. Maybe more?
      Torque Pro is worth it to me to not have the ads from Torque Free.
      It takes me hours to set it screens up. I wish I could port settings to a new phone. That's my only dig on it other it usually having what I call basic PID's.
      Thanks buddy.

    If you get a multiple pending codes it will set it but I'm not sure how many pending will set it. Good stuff.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  6 років тому

      Turns out my app had a bug at the time. It confused pending codes with permanent. For months I wondered why some vehicles had check engine lights on and others didn't. It didn't match. Lol

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  6 років тому

      Manufacturer dependant on the rules of multiple pending codes setting a CEL. My truck has pending and permanent codes for the same code frequently.
      It's like it leaves the pending there when you get the permanent. I've never met a scan tool to see freeze frame on Nissans. Not even at work so if you can't see separate freeze frames per code, why have both?

      Could be an oxygen sensor. I've seen that before, but you really need to check live data to be sure. Learning that is a lot cheaper than the parts cannon.

      I'm glad I could help! Vacuum leak hunting often works without fuel trims and live data, but subtle leaks won't get caught so I always use a scan tool. In this case it was a huge leak on this part, but it was a Spider web of leaks which without live data, I wouldn't have been successful.

      I got a basic OBD II bluetooth reader to plug into the car.

    I see water used a lot for testing but I have to assume it wouldn't react as good as a solvent . Seems them rubber bellows are a common source for leaks on many vehicles. Water vs solvent while looking at fuel trims - what's best . There's a vid:) 👍👍

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado

      Now if I could just ever find a water bottle to spray with. It's like the one thing I won't lend out in a shop. If you lend it out, it won't come back ever.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  6 років тому

      Water is safer, but less available oddly enough. I'm trying to think if I've ever watched live data using water?
      Well, I know I've done a water decarbonization treatment watching fuel trims off camera. The RPM could be seen to drop but fuel trims don't change so you'd have to have a big enough leak to effect RPM. I've found subtle leaks with fuel trim shifts which I'd have never found otherwise.
      This is a guess of a memory from during water decarbonization, but I'm thinking back again to a small shop I worked at once. I tried water first one vacuum leak test later and fuel trims only increased to regain RPM. If that Impala had a proper idle air control, it should have done even less than that.
      You definitely are making me want to find a subtle intake leak to make a video on! They're usually bigger leaks.
      I know Scanner Danner went through a period where he was becoming convinced that water could do all only to find what I suspected would make him consider it wouldn't always work: a subtle air leak.
      What do you think of my different thumbnail?

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews 6 років тому

      DE Nichols I think it would be a first on youtube . You can cause a vac leak and demonstrate the different affects of the two liquids shown on a scan tool and why one is better than the other. 500 K views if kept short and precise . Scotty Kilmer style :) Like the thumbnail change . Try a secondary outline colour on your lettering and it makes it just pop. 👍

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  6 років тому

      As the water or brake clean started and stopped, the opened vacuum line would have to be sealed. A professional vacuum tube/fuel system cleaning setup would be required or something capable of being sealed and turning the fluid of choice on and off. I don't own one, but it doesn't seem expensive to make.
      Thanks. As a fellow UA-camr, I really respect the feedback on the thumbnail and as a connoisseur of the type of video on UA-cam, your insight. I have been holding back for what feels like 7 months a video, which uses a similar device for a fluid delivery, which would go viral, but until I have my monetization back with UA-cam. The truth is, they made those changes in April, right? I think It shot the video at about that time and I quickly realized I had to hold it back or I'd easily have a video with 5-20k views a month, worth possibly $100's of dollars over the years.
      If my channel was at least another 9k subs, the exposure on a video like that could easily be worth a $1,000 in a some months. The viral level of a video can be held back by the strength of the channel in general. With full time school and work, I was only able to post up a video because I've been really sick the past few days. Took me 2 days to go from a decently edited video to being able to click publish because I have such weak limits right now with this infection. That said, the whole channel has about 20% less views without at least weekly publishing...but that may also the yearly effect of spring. People watch a lot less in May than at any other time in the Northern Hemisphere. Generally having a publish dry spell doesn't hurt a month this month. Yes, I'm thinking it's the effect of Spring. Hot summer brings most of them back to UA-cam more this month, and in the next 2-3 months.

      The torque app is free. I paid $5 to run it and free a LOT of years ago. It works with any basic wifi or bluetooth OBD ii basic scanner.
      I recommend bluetooth. If your android or ios likes wifi for internet, hooking wifi to an OBD ii can cut off your internet connection.

    Same car and i’m getting very bad gas mileage. 5km/liter on city driving. My long term fuel trim is at -7 to -10. Ive cleaned the intake and replaced sensors. What else could it be?

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  4 дні тому

      Which sensors did you replace and what was your reasoning in replacing them?
      If you're referring to oxygen sensors denso are the correct ones, but their quality for our model of car has really gone down hill in the last decade. They cost half as much as they used to and their quality matches. The Bosch oxygen sensor is strangely pushed in America and before I was a pro I put one in. It leaned out the engine enough to prematurely kill the catalytic converter, but if your burning extra gas it may just lean the engine and help with gas mileage.
      Upstream Bosch oxygen sensor.

      Torque App. Free with ads or $5, at least when I bought it many years ago. Still works.
      You do need a bluetooth OBD II tool. They're made generically. If you suddenly find and buy one cheaper with wifi and you don't get the bluetooth, you'll sacrifice internet to connect to a car which can be really annoying when you want to look up a code.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  6 років тому

      When I sprayed it in general, I could see brake clean absorb into it slowly. The drying pattern told me the intake tube was leaking every where vs it just evaporating. On a hot day, you'd see fumes going up, but it all sucked in. I didn't film that as I had done diagnostics a prior day without time to film and this day the customer only had enough time for me to talk and explain versus show testing in detail.

      @DENicholsAutoBravado  2 роки тому

      Hmmm. That was one of my better videos explaining vaccum leaks. I talked instead of showing some things. What questions are you left with?
      Using a smoke machine is the easiest. There are DIY tutorials to make 1, a famous video by Scotty Kilmer where he shows using a cigar to check even though he doesn't smoke.
      I learned from Scanner Danner to put holes in a water bottle.
      You can spray water where you think there is a leak. Sometimes the leak is so small you have to watch live data to spot you found the leak because the leak is too small to hear the engine speed up and down as bits of water are sucked in.
      More teach to use carb spray, but being flammable that is more dangerous, depending on your point of view.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  2 роки тому

      Here's my worse video at explaining similar problems, but maybe if you hear more on the subject this better video will have more context.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado

      My knowledge of the subject was very strong at this time too:
      ua-cam.com/video/qcy94Qp5bMU/v-deo.html
      That one focuses on fuel trims. Huge because watching live fuel trims while you use propane or water can help you see when you've found a leak.
      ua-cam.com/video/qcy94Qp5bMU/v-deo.html

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  2 роки тому

      Bad fuel trims can also be caused by bad oxygen sensors making the PCM set the wrong conditions because the 02 Sensors are bad even when they aren't.
      ua-cam.com/video/0glNVL8O564/v-deo.html
      It's a very big subject. Can't fit it all in 1 video that people would watch.
