I had a belt tensioner replacement (bolt breaking). 2006 Corolla at 130,000 miles, currently at 189,000. I did have engine issues but the Engine Control Computer warranty replacement solved that issue a few years down the road though. No issues on timing belt, or master cylinder. Hey Joaquin, I have a 2005 Toyota corolla and the clutch is not serving me well. I even got a new one fitted in but it still doesn't engage like a proper clutch. Have you encountered similar issues.
my 04 corolla le started to leak oil from the timing chain tensioner at 90k km in 2021. This video helped me to identify several symptoms my 2005 Corolla has, now with more mileage than the one he shows in this video, more than 256, 350 miles; Replacing the Vapor Canister, with the original Toyota part, several rubber hoses from the EVAP System, which were showing small cracks, the VVTI Solenoid Valve which was leaking, and related parts like the intake manifold gasket, which is made of plastic, apparently the first years Toyota Corollas started to use a plastic intake manifold, and now the car accelerates smoothly, but I suspect there is another vaccum leak this time from the exhaust manifold, which some people over the Internet show a creative way to diagnose, by connecting a vaccum cleaner hose to the muffler, even with tape to help with this connection, and start the vaccum with the engine off, then spraying water to the exhaust manifold parts like you do to find a leak on a tire due to a nail or something similar. Many decided to keep using even daily their Toyotas as far as they can, instead of paying the unfair and ridiculous mark ups. Is a challenge because for daily use, even a Toyota has to be repaired properly, you can't go cheap.
Intimating video, hope to have better luck than that… Just bought me a 100k mile Corolla and love it. Performed all the maintenance. Should be good to go for many trouble free years.
I drive a 2007 Corolla that currently has 297,000 miles. I've personally put 267,000 of those miles on it. I have never had any problem with it. Zilch. All I have ever done is standard routine maintenance.

My daughter has one, great car. The starter did go out at about 150k miles but she had stupidly let her roommate use it for GrubHub deliveries...that probably put a few years on the starter and battery.
When someone asks me about what kind of car they should buy , I always tell them a Toyota or Honda ( Lexus or Acura if youre spending more $ ) Ive owned about 6 toyotas and 3 Lexus and they were all good cars .
In December I had to replace my 1990 Volvo 240 wagon with 400,000 miles on the clock. My late mother's last car. Her next door neighbour had to stop driving, so i bought her car. Yoda is a 2004 with 100,000 miles on the clock. Had to change the catalytic converter because it started leaking. I also had to di front wheel bearings. That was a job and a half. Certainly not a do it yourself. Luckily I have a friend with a full machine shop. I put a set of Nokian Haakappilliitta R5 winter tires on. I do not like the front wheel drive in the snow at all, and im not crazy about it in the rain, either. I used to bigger, heavier, rear wheel drive, and that is my preference. Still, Yoda is doing the job. I do enjoy it over all. A little more room would be nice, though.
I have been working on cars for 10 years, went to Toyota TTen school, worked for Toyota/Lexus for half of those years, and I have never seen a Master Cylinder go bad on one of these. A much more prominent problem on these would be the intake plenum gasket/MAP sensors causing a rough idle and lean code first thing on a cold morning.
I have a 2006 corolla, and I drove for a year and half with the code P0171. I replaced the Mass air sensor, but it didn't work. I assume that is due to manifold gasket. Is that ok still driving it without fixing it if I want run another 100k miles?
Inside door handles. AC relays. Alternators. Ignition coils/connectors. Valve cover gaskets. That’s what I see mostly on them. Also evap codes, purge and vent solenoids, radiators, axle bearings, axles, O2 sensors, etc....
owned my 03 corolla for 20 years now. Not trying to discredit you but these problems have never happened. As long as you do your preventive maintenance and keep up with your fluids then you should be fine. The headlight it really just every old car and of course affected me too. The center clock as been my only issue, but that's not really the end on the world when aftermarket head units exist. but this is a great guide if you are buying a used one and don't know the owner
Don't worry. This guy is full of shit. I own two '07 Corollas (wife and mine, bought both new) with a combined total mileage of over 400,000 miles. I have never had ANY of the problems this yoyo outlines. Change your oil at 5000 miles, use original Toyota parts (oil filter, air filter, etc. * there is a reason Toyotas last and it's because they use top quality OEM parts) and don't "dog" the engine and tranny and you'll be driving the car 10 years from now, guaranteed.
It is a testament to the Japanese engineering of the time. Just because we have a newer car model coming out every year doesn't mean older cars are not supposed to last forever.

I’ve owned a 2003 and a 2007 Corolla. Best cars I ever owned! Super reliable and costs very little to maintain. That said I DID have a few issues with my ‘03 (although I bought it as a used and, sadly, abused and crashed rental. So some of the problems were likely due to that). One issue I had was that it needed a new catalytic converter. This was after well over 200,000 Km though so couldn’t complain too much. Also, early on, the power steering rack and pinion system started leaking fluid, possibly a side issue from having been in an accident and poorly repaired by the rental company. However, I just put a bottle of “Stop Leak” in, topped up the fluid and viola! Never leaked again, saving myself an $1800 repair bill. The only other real issues I had, other than normal wear and tear, was the starter dying (this guy was right about THAT), and the odometer not going over 299,999 Km. I had to use the tripmeter which reset after 10,000 km. But when you consider that I rolled the tripmeter at least 4 times, that means my trusty little 2003 Corolla that I owned for 13 years had at least 340,000 Km on it by the time I sold it. And it STILL ran like a clock!!! When I posted it for sale I got a call within 45 min from a guy offering to pay cash, and more than I was expecting to get! My 2007 I bought used off of my sister-in-law, it was well maintained and in great shape, but only kept it for a few years before selling it to buy a RAV4. I love my RAV4 but will always regret selling my 2007 Corolla. I miss that little car. =(
Hey! I plan on getting one of these cars. I'm mostly looking at 06+ as I typically get last yrs of a generation by habit. See an 07 S model with 152k for 4.2k & 08 S model with 138k going for 4k. 07 is closer to me, but 08 seller looks a little suspect in ad says "sold as-is". Anything I should be looking for @ these mileage. Also found another 05 with 107k miles for 4500. Would appreciate the insight, I'm a total noob in Toyota world. Thanks!
Thanks. This was very informative. My sister loaned me her car and thanks to your video, I was able to diagnose the issue with the idle after the local mechanic did not. Again... thanks. Great informative video.

Mine would rev up to 1500 rpm at first morning start while still parked. Would continue for about 4-5 minutes... then gradually fall to proper 900 rpm. Every first start of the day was the same regardless of warm or cold weather. Put a scan tool on it... indicated P1 to P4 cylinder misfire. Replaced air intake manifold gasket. Issue gone.
@@wastedsoftly3899 not normal at all. My tach would surge up to 1500 rpm and back down to 1000 back and forth at least 3 times before slowly climbing down to 900 after almost 10 min. Had the air intake manifold gasket replaced (new orange rubber).... never surged again.
If you want to make your headlight lenses look better, use a stain-erasing block on them. Those blocks are micro-abrasive, and they will remove a very thin yellowed layer of plastic from the lenses. Use the stain eraser wet, and then wet wipe the lens you just cleaned with water. You may even see yellowish-colored stain on the wiping rag.
Just bought an 04 with 177k miles and only problems I see are rusty rocker panels and rusty back wheel drums. I almost didnt buy it but it's inspected for a while and for the price I paid it seems well worth it.
Thanks dude.... this is super awesome to know (and be prepared for) the typical problems with my (18 year old - 150K miles) 9th Generation Corolla. My car has a rattling startup that make a noise when I decelerate to/accelerate from a stop, and it typically goes away approximately 3 minutes later after engine warms up. Any ideas? Could it be that clogged screen to the VVTI you mentioned?
I have 03 automatic 165k and have been battling this issue for a year or two now. Shortly after I bought the car the front driver side wheel bearing need replaced so I did. Ever since that was done the car hasn’t been right since. I noticed the car had a shake in the steering wheel afterwards. If you jack the car up and put it in drive the wheel and tire will spin but acts like something is oblong or bent. It was bad enough that something was digging into the brake rotor at a certain rotations. Even with the wheel and tire off it still does it. I’ve replaced the wheel bearing, axle, brake pads, rotor, brake caliper because it was pushing in the piston back and forth so much that it wore the seal out of the caliper that it started leaking fluid. I took it to a shop and had them look at it and they said the hub was bent. So I need some other parts and purchased a parts car and swapped out the entire knuckle with hub and bearing and it’s still not spinning straight. It almost seems like it’s coming from the transmission like something in the transmission is bent or a bearing gone bad I’m not sure. The axle doesn’t spin straight and true from output shaft to the hub It has a wobble. There is a growling noise when in gear and but not when in neutral. Please I need help.
On the 03s at least, there is a hardware problem on the odometer that will not roll the odometer to 300,000 miles. Outlrs has had at least 400,000 miles on it, but the odometer forecer reads 299,999.
I guess I'm lucky. I inherited my mother's 2003 Corolla, I've had none of these issues and known the car since new, but then again it only has 78,000 miles (125,000 km). But, now I know what to watch for. Just waiting for my odometer to get stuck at 299,999. I had my headlights restored a few years ago, still look like new. The 9th gen Corolla model years in the US and Canada were 2003-2008. And of course, the Corolla in the video looks stunning in grandma beige.

No starter issues either,,,, the gas cap issue is a individual error a lot of the time cap not on completely,,,,,227,000 miles on the 1 your working on is awesome. I had a belt tensioner replacement (bolt breaking). 2006 Corolla at 130,000 miles, currently at 189,000. I did have engine issues but the Engine Control Computer warranty replacement solved that issue a few years down the road though. No issues on timing belt, or master cylinder. Starter sounds maybe so, so or its me holding down the key to long especially on cold mourning's. Gas cap issues, when in a hurry twice didn't tighten the cap down properly. One problem right headlight wiring short, burned around my socket and bulb plus wearing out the battery. Partial wiring change with socket. (I'm really happy that I bought a car with a timing chain.)

Yesss been waiting for this one! thanks!

Anything I should be looking for @ these mileage. Also found another 05 with 107k miles for 4500. Would appreciate the insight, I'm a total noob in Toyota world. Thanks!
06, 191k miles. One thing not to over look is the valve cover gasket. The rubber gasket had turned into hard plastic and stated to leak oil.

Dude that's the way that car is no matter what you do they do that when they're brand new they just get worse and worse noisy f****** Moda
