2 words. British Plane.
real class navy and marine pilot's world class.
When you get to be an old guy like me, it's nice to see these young people doing such great, dedicated work. Perfect landing, in what seemed like a really difficult situation. I was a lot like him at that age, except I was shooting Asteroids in the out skirts of our solar system. Then later, I saved the world from Space Invaders. Pretty dangerous too, but I don't like to brag.
Both comments are great.
Dan At least you are honest, Lt. Dan !
Is the earth flat?
Dan I like the avocado.

The Harrier ... amazing British Aircraft ...
Harriers are BADASS.
especially when they break on takeoff
they are actually the most hated aircrafts by pilots.. they are dangerous and outdated.
That Devil Dog deserves a Medal or a citation citing his professionalism under difficult and stressful situation. This Marine kept his cool, calm demeanor and saved the American taxpayers a lot of money!
Silas Moore Because he was in a situation that he had never trained for and performed exemplarily, thus saving the American taxpayer millions of dollars. He deserves some recognition.
Silas Moore You probably got a medal for sucking at sports when you were 9 and you don't think this guy deserves recognition for saving a $20 million dollar aircraft without incident? You must be from Europe.
Dirk Diggler Pretty sure that jet is WAY more than $1.5 million, like 20 times that at least.
Derpleton Herpson Good call.
***** Yeah, around that much.
some jets that the U.S uses now are HUNDREDS of millions each.
Shows you how amazing our pilots are. Also awesome that they even took this situation into consideration and had a device specifically for it.
well you nailed good job
That's a fucking helicopter.
its a harrier ya dingus
Themighty Dot you're a dingus harrier
Awesome! Added to the list of reasons that I love the Harrier so much, but obviously couldn't have been done without an excellent pilot. Amazing skills.
"Amazing invention, Basically a Stool." Capt got jokes.
Edit. 1:00
+Nathan Hromanik 1 Genius worked on it over 10 years to perfect this stool and you're just plain out mocking it, come on bro , not cool!
I've heard or a three-legged stool, but a four-legged stool?
Fantastic pilot showing all the best qualities; calm under pressure, trusting and focused.
Exceptional
OUTSTANDING JOB SIR, ,,THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICES 😊
The only stools I would have had would be in my pants...
brian critchley LOL 😂
In another universe With Alex and luka 😂😂😁
Well said 😂🤣
Well done - very professional and expertly pulled over of course at the time I'm sure he wasn't thinking how am I going to look pulling this stunt - it's a job another day. Bravo.
Truly impressive.
Great pilot,, but it also demonstrates how special - these harrier's are !
A job well done. Here in the uk we retired the harriers,a totaly wrong decision in my book,a very battle proven aircraft.Well done to that young man,a total professional.
A great pilot. We retired Harrier to pay for Eurofighter, which is an absolute disgrace, especially because the Europhoon is practically useless. And it's been in service 8 years!

Outstanding! Totally outstanding!
i've always been super envious of fighter jet pilots. i have and always will love jets and their pilots. they're so badass
Excellent flying and exceptional film-work :)
Wow, awesome. Great job Capt. Congrats
That was incredible!!
OUCH !!! that was BRILLIANT flying...amazing
That's absolutely..
Hats off to this genius..
You are awesome William
Smart pilot! Wow what skill. But what a tense moment for him !
Great pilot, great video !!
Congratulations. Well done.
Absolutely brilliant 🏴🇬🇧👏👏
Great airmanship! 👍
that was a bad ass landing and hat off to whoever came up with that ahead of time by the deck crew
Strange that someone wasn't directing him on the deck. I understand it was dangerous, but that's what these boys are trained for. Glad it worked out. Nice flying.
Well Done - Good Job. Save Lifes and the machine.
Love this guy!
Sometimes videos like this are shit - but this was really put together well, great work.
Sure look liked he nailed it perfectly to me. Spot on!
خیلی زیبا وتماشایی. ممنون Thanks

Bravo!
This is what I like to see on UA-cam. Nicely done and good representation of our service men and women. Now I'm going back to watch some road rage videos.
...something to calm your nerves?
Good job mate 💪💪💪
IT LOOKS LIKE SPACESHIP LANDING! I LIKE IT MUCH!! I HAVEN'T SEEN A JET LAND LIKE A SPACESHIP ALL I CAN SEE IS THE JET LANDING WHILE RUNNING! so cool!
What plane is that its hovering. Wheres the motors that keep it hovering
That was on the USS Bataan. I was on that ship during deployment and watching it when it happened. Everybody was on edge.
Did well,I presume most if not all harrier pilots should be able to do this, proffesional job done.
Nailed it! Well deserved beer!
Excellent Job Capt. Mahoney! Looking at the stool...I kept thinking, I'd like to see that think a little wider....Maybe one more stool on the left, one more on the right, incase the jet wants to bounce off the target stool....
Bravissimo.👏👏👏👏👏
Hi- Video looks$nice attempt downtown What's your opinion about that, gxys 11
Good job!!!!!
GREAT JOB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just badass!
Jeez! What a landing!
Thats why you are a Harrier Pilot. Nailed it.
Nice Job..
I love our troops 🇺🇸
Everyone in the comments: I have over 300,000 hours in all types of aircraft on the planet and have landed at every single airport. I was the first person to land a 747 on an aircraft carrier and I must say that was one of the easiest things I have ever done. I flew in World War Two with over 600 kills and have been flying AV-8B Harriers for the past 30 years. Thinks that’s crazy? My father has over 2,000,000 hours in C-130s where he has landed inverted and the pilot thought it was so smooth he couldn’t even tell. You know someone with 10,000 hours? Tell him he’s a horrible pilot compared to me because I am the expert when it comes to UA-cam videos and I know exactly what every other pilot out there is doing right or wrong at this exact moment. This pilot landing without his front wheel was just doing what any FSX pilot could do no problem.
most aircraft will fly themselves if they're set up right( that goes for both real and game aircraft), some of the newer commercial passenger airliners can even land themselves. as for landing inverted, i call BS. i'd like to see a real plane that is NOT a stunt plane land inverted. post a link and i'll believe it.
@@michaelking3327 Oh my you need help understanding jokes.
Rookie. You and your dad are both low talent scrubs.
@@ppipowerclass You're joking right? Do not ever and I mean EVER, think you know more about airplanes that me. Google Chuck Yeager and you will see the guy I bullied in flight training. Not to mention I was the test pilot for the Wright Flyer before those bike building loser brothers took my place in the public eye...
Great landing
Brilliant
Good one....
Pffffft amateur I landed on the maze bank with no gear and one wing
Joe Rogers
Pffft that's nothing
I landed on it with a bike
Same.

Five years later and I'm playing GTAO as I read this comment... Crazy. I wish RDO had survived as such....
Nice landing US Marine!! You all rock!!
Gay.
a job could help you..
amir wayeh seeking for attention?
This is the first time that I have seen this video. Like many other Brits, I am disgusted that our short-sighted government sold off the Harriers, but as far as the PILOT in this video is concerned- an excellent display of flying skill- brilliant. I congratulate him. (I am also copying this as a reply to WinchesterRanger)
Harriers really aren't that great, if not for their VTOL ability they would be worthless.
Johan Johansson It's a little bit better than the harrier.
Derpleton Herpson They were good enough to get a 21-0 kill ratio in the Falklands War
John Kimble Well said! If that didn't prove their effectiveness, then nothing would.
Gonna have to send this to my dad :)
Aren't these things notoriously difficult to land and fly? In any case, I applaud that man and his skill.
Great landing ;)
How did a plane do a vertical landing?
It's cool!
Yeah.......BRAVO.......Clap.....Clap.....Clap!!!!
I see crash crew was ready for action (the red shirts) =D. That there is also a crash dolly we have a few different varieties of said dolly for different situations or a phase 2 salvage. Glad my brothers didn't have to do their job and this marine aviator has the skills he has.
why not the same vtol in commercial planes to avoid accidents in case of emergency ?
I recall in 1983, a Harrier landed on a small corgo ship..
Unusual to see one coming on along the ships axis. Ours landed on from the side..
Greatest AV8A pilot I ever saw was Captain Wilde with VMA-513 around 19980-81. I know without a doubt;if ground crew could get a broken plane to start he could fly it. I'll go to my grave thinking he was the greatest pilot ever to fly that aircraft.
Guy Allen I`d give that accolade to the one and only the great John Farley, the original Harrier test pilot, he could make that bird dance.
In a typical scenario, they would side step port to starboard. But being that he was stepping down vertically onto a fixed point with virtually no play in judgement, the Mini Boss and Crash Bos'n wanted his alignment, horizontally, to be perfect.
This entire video kind of negates his last statement. They could not only setup the same circumstances we just saw in reality, but surely he's heard of a simulator.
I think I understand what he's going for. Training on a sim doesn't make you fear for your life, and training on real equipment is prohibitively expensive and risky.
Ill ignore your insult for now. It's a nonsensical statement because nothing can truly mirror the experience of going outside your front door than actually going outside of it. It applies to everything. So, it means nothing. It just bothers me that people don't choose their words more wisely. He didn't say "I wasn't trained for this", he said "there's no way to train... in this kind of situation." I can't be as certain as you that this man means something completely different than what he said. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he's a fighter pilot, but he very well could have meant exactly what he said. In which case he is wrong.
pentuplemintgum666 He was struggling a tad to find the words with his last statement with the "uummms" and eye movement where you can tell he was speaking in the moment and not with a planned statement. Just calm yourself and think for a couple seconds about what he surely meant to say....that you can't really train your pilots in a real world setting with no nose gears on your planes, sim training is not even close to the same thing so don't be dumb about it.
Thank you for taking what I said and putting it into your own words then repeating it back to me. Missing several of my points and then calling me dumb for it, I could have done without.
redknight801 yea, try being less of a dickbag
go fly a plane or shut up bitch
Good job. Tidy!
I've actually seen this done before. The more dangerous landing, on a normal runway, is not realizing one of your outrigger wheels (the ones at each wingtip) isn't down. You veer off the side of the runway and that can get bad in a real hurry. Mike - USMC air winger retired
This took place on the ship that my oldest daughter was stationed on!
nice buddy
Como faço para me a lista
How did this get on my homepage?
Um espetáculo
Something flashed inside the the nozzle of the right air intake as the jet smacked on the stool! Wonder if its the engine going kaput! But awesome job by the pilot nonetheless!👍
BRAVO ZULU MARINE. Perfect 10 on that landing.
did this have VTOL or did he flew at the right speed so he was fying as slow as the boat was moving?
MålloGamer it's a Harrier
"I didn't realize that nobody was on the flight deck" hehehe I hope they thanked him for testing the new nose catcher.
GOOD JOB,SUCCESS
