73 year old granny here who found a pair of speakers at the swap shop wanting to make them work with my old stereo. Your video still rocks after all these years. I hope hey have been kind to you!
9 years after and your video stil is the best in the whole platform to solve this issue, thank you so much.
So glad I came across this video. Just finished setting up my home theater, and found an old subwoofer in my garage that I thought was shot. Switched out the fuse and it worked! The only issue was I needed a subwoofer cable that’s at least 25 feet and all I had was a 15 footer. Thanks to this video, I stripped down a few random rca’s that I no longer needed and used that! Now I have “dueling” subwoofers and a huge smile. 😁
Thanks man. I’ve been trying to do this for days. I didn’t understand how to hook up any of this. I’ve been trying to hook up my 12” sub to my speaker wires because I don’t have a nice head unit. Even my buddy was trying to help me figure it out but we’ve been completely dumbstruck about it. Than we came across a miracle. That’s your video man. This video was exactly what my buddy needed to remember that this is possible. Seriously, if I didn’t come across this video I would have gone home and cried to myself because we didn’t get it figured out. I owe you a million thanks for sharing this video. Every other UA-camr was no help to us. But you were different. You are blessing. Thank you for being such a kind young man. Thanks again. Thank you.
I decided to pull out my old KEF PSW 2150 subwoofer that's been collecting dust for years. I'm fairly handy with basic connections, but I have never spliced open an RCA male jack. I needed to connect them to speaker wire as you have here. Thanks from Hong Kong!
I appreciate this dude. Thanks a lot. I get so sick and tired of asking a search engine how to do something, they point you to a forum and you get all these idiots talking about goofy sh** except what the hell you want an answer for. They have too much time on their hands. Thanks again
I just found an radio/CD player system and the speakers would be really nice to have on my PC. Plus, it was still in the box untouched after 4 years of sitting in my storage room forgotten. Thanks for showing me how to make use of them.
I've seen about 6 videos on this and yours is the clearest explanation thanks
This video was exactly what I was looking for on you tube. Took me a while to find it. Never knew about the two wires inside. Now I can hook up my 150 watt AR's to my tv. Thanks.
Finally, a video that gets to the point! Just what I needed to hook up an older sub-woofer to my amp!
wow man, thanks so much for posting this video! I knew this was possible, but I wanted to see someone else do it first before I tried.
Thank you so much!! I’m not tech savvy whatsoever and had been married my entire adult life until recently so I had someone to do these things for me in the past.. I kept coming across irrelevant videos as I wasn’t sure of the terminology to even search for and am happy I took a chance and clicked on your video… I believe this should help me hook up speakers that have spring hookups to my little record player which has a single red and white RCA holes… I think anyways… 🤔 Wish me luck!
Thanks this is exactly what I needed all the other videos were the opposite that I needed expect yours I’m tryna put car sub as subs for my home theater 🤣
Stumbled across this vid and was exactly what I needed. I know it’s old, but thank you.
I have speakers and tv. What else do I need? I see I need to convert optical to rca from tv output but do I need a amplifier or will the converter work alone?
Finally a video that shows clearly what the person is doing!
Thanks, J!
I have been looking for THIS EXACT video for 3 hours!
Bro, I was starting to question owning an Onkyo and you gave me the answer I needed 👍
Dude I have an ONKYO as well haha had the exact same issue!!!
dose it works ?
I know the exact feeling...ive googled all kinds of stuff......im so grateful
Bro do not do this with a Onkyo!! You can ruin the amp. Amps aren't made to receive a amplified signal. I have a Onkyo TX-sr604 and I love it and all the options it had. Onkyo are great..
This answered ALL of my questions. Just traded cars and finally said enough with the line out converter which i could NOT get to work for jack squat. Testing this method out to get my rca inputs to my amp. THANK YOU!
King Kuma so you mean to tell me this works cause I’m about to try it I can’t get my amp and sub to play in my car I used a 2 line outs and then janks don’t work at all
If you have two speakers and are trying to make them go into the one, aka monaural, you just need to combine the two positives and the two negatives from the two speakers and then join those with the rca or monaural
J Robling so we just combine those to one rca only??
hey dude can i apply this to 7 speakers?
To add RCA to were in TV or set top box
Wow this is so great! Been looking for a way to connect RCA cables to my receiver which has only bare wire input. Thank you for the clear explanation!
Great video, I didn't know that the copper wire surrounding the plastic wire inside of an RCA cable was just the ground and that the actual signal was inside those thin color coded plastic wires, thanks.
Thank you Sir! Great tutorial, where I don’t have to subject myself to the misery of having “experts” pussyfoot around giving a definitive explanation. Again, kudos!
Glad to know you can do without solder! I wanted this done but didnt have that and now i feel better about attempting this!
Awesome. Thank you! Rat chewed my satellite speaker's wire. And I fixed it with the help of this video 😅 It's working ❤
I misplaced the Bose speaker cables and was going to replace them with some I found on eBay.. not anymore, you probably just saved me a hundred bones
Keyam
I have been looking for THIS EXACT video for days, thank you.
I have speakers and tv. What else do I need? I see I need to convert optical to rca from tv output but do I need a amplifier or will the converter work alone?
Hey this was super helpful, especially for a girl (ok 52 year young gal, LOL) cuz we are trying to get speakers from RCA receiver to our TV which comes through computer. (No TV just computer so no antennae) but right now have computer to TV, and speakers are from receiver to computer. Very confusing but the receiver does nothing except give us access to the speakers. Maybe trying to get speakers to TV w/o using receiver.....anyway, that is how we found this video and we are new subscribers so thanks!! Kristy in Missouri :)
If I did exactly this any idea why it wouldn't be working? Do I need to have the 5.1 decoder turned on on the amp or can I play normal 2 channel and still get woofer sound?
Andrew Huff mine didn’t work either, 😩
This skill serves a multitude of purposes, thanks for sharing and being straight to the point!
Thank you, just needed to know which one was positive and which one was negative. 😊
Great Instructional Video My Friend. Your instructions were clear & to the point. I wish all videos are exactly like yours... Perfect Job 💯👏👏
Thanks! I couldn't find anywhere that told me which part of the RCA wire was positive and which was negative.
Yes Mahal kit you can. The only thing you need to look into is the watts output and input. Don't want it too high to blow the speakers or too low to get poor or no sound
I have two wires each for my right and left speaker. How can connect them to one rca cable going into my tv??
CAN anyone tell me how to hook up that
I am also having two speaker wires red nd white how to connect it with tv
@@metayogi3477 we have the same problem bro tell me if u proof it
Mine isn’t working 😭😭 tried it many different ways. Looks like I’m forced to buy a new subwoofer
@@smartboy9978 9±77
Great job. But don't you need 2 RCA wires plugged in for the subwoofer to work?
Nice one and I would have balled it up connect way I was thinking (as with other viewers comment) and I am glad this was the first video I was drawn to and you explained it like a grade A tutor 👍🏼 Nice one pal
This is what exactly what im looking for. Thanks man.
thanks for this, it helped me figure out how to get sound for my TV again - my TVs speakers don't work - not sure why - so I'd been using pc speakers (connected them to the earphone out of the TV). this worked for a good while but I guess the earphone jack now has failed as well. So...I figured I could use the RCA output from the Charter cable box. Using your info I was able to manage this. Thank You.
I love finding these work-arounds, it sucks to buy new shit all the time because its designed to fail.
Why didn't you use the wire strippers on the first part? while you were cutting it with a razor knife, I was wondering why you didn't get a pair of wire strippers, and then the next step you had them.
+Cliff Sheets my wire strippers didnt have that high of a gauge
+J Robling u mean low
Could you plug the split RCA cable directly into the speaker? or do you HAVE to connect it to regular speaker wore?
Basically, I Have VERY long RCA cables, could I use only them and bypass the speaker wire?
+Brady Hettinger do you mean just use a long rca wire withe the male end and just the positive and negative split on the other?
+J Robling Yes, would that work.. or do I need to attach it to regular speaker wire?
+Brady Hettinger nope. The two wires inside the rca act just like 2 normal speaker wires. So you are just fine to use it like that
AWESOME!!! This is exacxtly what I was looking for. I have that same receiver!! Thank You!!!
This was greeeat. Answered everything i need to know
Your sending ac power to a dc sub, not to mention its a pre-made box for small vehicles and you have it in an untamed air containing structure......
Still works regardless
which made my subwoofer fart constantly
After you hook the rca plug to your speaker wire can you plug it into the audio out port on the back of a TV and it will work or not? Thank you
I tried and didn't work
I have two bose speakers I wanted to connect to my TV, the speakers have the red & black wire connectors in back. No Sub. So confirming if I take the two speaker wires coming from the bose speaker and pig tail them both onto 1 white RCA cable. since I have two speakers, do I connect all 4 speaker wires to the 1 white RCA? Not much into electronics so forgive me if that didn't make sense ha, hope it did though.
+Kathleen Smith That would complete the connection and would work, as long as the tv puts out enough power to the speakers they should work and sound good
i'm going to try this right now. thanks for the video
My reciever has 2 pre out ports for the subwoofer marked 1 and 2. Will this method still work?
Nick Pavao As far as I know your receiver has 2 ports outs for two different subs. This will still work if that is the case. Just make sure its a powered sub or you have an amp hooked up too.
Thanks for the info. Really answered my question if I can convert my home theater sub woofer to an rca amplifier. Great help.
I have speakers and tv. What else do I need? I see I need to convert optical to rca from tv output but do I need a amplifier or will the converter work alone?
Yeah same here man I got a Vizio surroundsound I just wanted to know if the two little speakers with the one wire has two wires where I can connect some speaker wire to it because I don’t wanna cut into it if it doesn’t
Thank you sooo much man i really needed know this should have wathched this video 5 years ago.
is this the best way to go from one amp, speaker output to another amp aux input and back out to the speakers on that amp
Thnx that helped alot with my Sony STR-KM5000 as the original Monaural audio cable (from amp to subwoofer) decided to let go. However there is a bit of a static sound even when no audio is playing, do you perhaps know what may be causing that ?
Regards
Same method I had used, but it did not work. That is what brought me here. Good video tutorial though man.
I know same with mine doesn’t work
I believe I have the exact same receiver and I am trying to do the exact same thing. I soldered mine together and put heat shrink tube over it so I know the connection is good. However I am still not getting anything out of my subwoofer. I have never used the receiver before. It was given to me by a friend to use in my garage. I'm thinking maybe it's as simple as a setting on the receiver? Please LMK if you have any ideas. Thanks
Exactly...it dosent work
Why couldn't I have found your channel sooner lol.
You can also slip on some of that rubber stuff before you twist together and shrink it with a lighter so it forms a protective barrier around the bare wires. Can't remember the name. But its shrink something
I have the exact same amplifier and connected the subwoofer following your instructions. But I can't get any kind of sound out of it. Can you help me out?
......hey great response. think i might be confused. Could you alson mention what wire is +? Cant have one speaker pushing while the other pulls!
Worked for me! Thanks. Now I have a compact pair of speakers for college, plus they were thrown away so I got them for free.
Hey I was in the same situation as you. The only question I have is that I have 22 gauge wire and a powered sub woofer so would i need a bigger gauge wire or can i stay with the 22 gauge? Thanks for the great video.
sniperman129 I have run 22 gauge wire with a sub before and it worked but if you want better sound I would get a bigger gauge
Thank you soooo much, I honestly didn’t think I would work
So can you use the same cables(red & white) for the 2nd speaker.
Victor Rodriguez Yes, All of the RCAs are the same on the inside, just copper wire. The color is there so you can easily identify which one goes where
Good Job Bro. Very helpful. Was able to connect my speakers and save unnecessary expenditure.
Would this help with connecting to a TV for sound? Also, would black electrical tape be good to keep the wires together?
Many people on here have done that, you can use electrical tape but remember that it is possible for it to come apart.
great video, i'm receiving a butt kicker gamer 2 today and have been trying to find a way i can connect it directly to my home theater system strait to the sub, well now that i've seen your video i now know exactly what to do :) thanks for the help. dave.
Thank for posting this. It was exactly what I was looking for.
could you hook up to a 3.5 jack to link up to a Bluetooth receiver
omgg finaly that wass exacly the video i wass looking for, thanks bro
hi J Robling. i wander if we can use any kind of speakers to connect to our TV. because we have two old speaker form our old component radio.
U can
After you convert speaker wire into RCA's can you then plug them into a after market car amplifier if you're head unit doesn't have RCA basically do you have to use a high to low power converter?
I currently have 4 built-in ceiling speakers that are bare wires that are connected to a stereo receiver with red and black tab/clip type inserts. is this video the method for converting them to RCA type connectors and if not can you tell me how to do all for speakers?
I knew that there had to be someone that thought of this and made a video about! thank you! Kinda pissed because all this time I could have done this.
i have a subwoofer and did the wiring like you did ,do i need an amplifier?
+Lucio A yes, like it says in the description this was how to make the wire. If you are hooking up a woofer you need an amp
I have one speaker wire. I need to make one positive RCA and one negative. How do I do that? Do I just connect the positive speaker wire end to the center post of the red RCA cable and the negative speaker wire to the center post of the black RCA cable and completely disregard the ground on both?
Not sure if someone asked already but would this work for my sound bar that has a "sub in" connection? I'm looking to add a bit more bass to my system using an old subwoofer. Btw it's a Vizio sound bar if it matters. Thanks!
Beanz572 With a sound bar that has a sub in input its the same thing. Make sure you have enough power running the sub though
hi J Robling, thanks for your reply my message.i need to ask you again , when i check my speaker am very compose because my speaker have two different color wire. blue black wire is super woofer speaker input and red black wire is front speaker input. witch one i connect to the cable wire. nd its alright i connected that to my LG Digital tv high difination
Brown side
How to know which wire is positive and which is negative on the speaker cables ?
Thank You Sooo Much for this educational tutorial! We have GREAT sound now, and couldn't have done it without you! Thanks Again.
Any issues with the fact that speaker wire carries 8ohms and audio wires carry 75ohms? Will 8ohms fed into 75ohm channel not blow out the internals?
Thanks, my sub is the same but I don’t have a wire thing for the sub itself
Hey!
So my problem is as follows: I have a receiver that outputs the signal it gets from the TV/CD player etc through speaker wire to the speaker. The main problem with this is that my speaker only has RCA input. Is it possible to follow the same steps as in the video and make this cable, to upgrade to an RCA input? To clarify, my receiver outputs using speaker wire, and my speakers can only accept RCA wires. Thanks!
+Dustin Sandler you can use this method to split the rca to a positive and negative so it will work and also you can use my videos to reverse and make positive and negative wires to rca, the only research you need to do on your part is to make sure that the watts are going to be sufficient to power the speakers
+J Robling thank you! I believe my speakers could overall use about 50W per channel, max, and my receiver outputs 140W total... therefore I am going to assume this strategy is going to be successful! Thanks for your help!
+Dustin Sandler also the 50W is a theoretical max... I'd maybe use 10W
As long as the power going to the speakers this method will work
Is the black usually ground or red? Thanks for the video!
Black is ground
Hi! I have a 5 ch sony speaker system. (Out of an old Stereo). I wish to use all (Woofer, subwoofer and a tweeter). Unfortunately, my TV has only two RCA sockets. Can I connect them all(speakers) to my TV??
I just cut the white rca that i have and it doesnt have the wire that is covered in plastic, i only see one wire.
Thanks man. My receiver or optical wire crapped out on me. I am at the store buying a new one and it only has rca outs.so I have to convert. How often to those optical wires go out? Or do you tjinks its my device? Guess I have to test amd see
What are those blue cables connect too are they connected to the positive and negative in subwoofer or did u connect them to the REM
Do you do the same thing with the red rca cable too? after pigtailing them, do you wrap it with electrical tape or anything? Very inexperienced.
Yes, all the colors are the exact same, its just a color system so you dont get it mixed up. the only difference is the red will have a red or pink plastic case in the center. After you bind the wires I always put electrical tape over it so it doesnt come lose or short anything out
My amplifier doesn't have an audio out subwoofer (black rca), instead it has a line out (red and black rca)...can I do something to work it out?
I'm thinking about using a "RCA F Female to x M Male Splitter Y Combiner Plug Cable" to turn my line out (red and black) into something more similar to what you have (one black rca). I really don't know what I'm doing, if someone has any advice please help! Appreciate
Guto Niemeyer It sounds like you have a good idea of whats going on. From what im hearing you need to take the positive and negative and combine them into the single monaural. So the splitter sounds perfect
I have a Mitsubishi tv vs big screen tv. I'm trying to hook up regular speakers to my tv.the speakers have no jacks.and where in the back of the tv would I plug the jacks
Do you need to connect the rca cable via the speaker wire. Or can you just directly connect the striped ends of the rca wires into +and- ports on the speaker?
That will work, the positive and negative ends of the RCA wires can go into any wired port
Wow!!! Amazing! Great video bro! Exactly what i was looking for... I have an old subwoofer with just neg/positive terminals that has to go to a NEW subwoofer out from receiver to a neg/positive terminals. Looks like it could work. Nice work!
thanks a lot i went through several videos on this subject and yours made me figure it out!
use the red black wire for a speaker for your tv. the black will be used as a negative and the red will be used as a positive. if you are using a sub then you need an amplifier and you would use the other colors with black being negative
+J Robling also depents. if the subwoofer is selfpowerd then you won't need a extra amp.. its a bitch with classic recievers..
U know u could just buy RCA male to speaker wires....your welcome!!!
+Leo Cardenas i don't think that would work. Because it's wire converted to rca where would you put the wire? thank you.....
This didn’t work for me. I followed it perfectly. My old sub from my home theatre only had 2 wires, I bout a RCA to 3.5mm cable & cut the white end off.... tied them both ways to mKe side I didn’t accidently do wrong side.... nothing 😥
So correct me if I'm wrong, but if you had an RCA cable long enough, you wouldn't need to splice it correct? You could just strip the end, separate the +/- and connect the raw wire to the sub, correct?
Absolutely correct
@@JRobling thank you!
does this make the sound quality substantially worse? (both the pigtail method and the other one)
+Erich Schmid either method isn't going to make a sound difference but the gauge of the wire will
think I could do the samething in a 01 tahoe with factory stereo ? I have 2 12s and a amp,. im trying to avoid spending more cash on a line out converter
you can
Since i am using a pair of bookshelf speakers, That'll be 4 plugs to convert into left and right RCA's? ( Because there are only 2 slots ) Unless each are uniquely for left and for right? And how?
thanks bro, you just saved me from myself.
THANKS MAN U REALLY REALLY SAVED MY LIFE FROM THE DESPERATEEEEE
I cant get it to work what should I do??
Did this actually work? I tried this and got nothing. Then after some research found out that port is for powered subwoofer and not passive subwoofer.
Can i use the yellow cable or do i have to only use red and white?
sniperman129 You can use any color you want, they are all the same under the plastic cover. They just use different colors to make it easier to tell the wires apart.
