- The Military Aviation Museum and the Fighter Factory loaned a Wildcat and TBM Avenger to the Navy for a day to honor the anniversary of the Battle of Midway. This is unedited footage shot from a Cannon 12.1 Powershot on iMovie '08 of the FM2 being loaded on to the Aircraft Carrier George H.W. Bush. Skip to 9:30 to see the crane lift. President Bush Sr. was shot down in the Avenger during WWII. This is how the planes were loaded during the war with a single contact crane, guide ropes, and some weight to balance the tail. It was remarkable to watch the Navy go to work. A Wildcat has probably not seen the deck of a carrier in over a half a century yet it looked right at home.

I realize this was from 2012 and I'm late to the game here. The Navy had an option to allow these aircraft to do some low approaches to carriers prior to a normal arrested landing, given that the pilots had current qualifications. Clearly some of the armchair brass decided against that. The amazing history of allowing these Wildcats and TBMs the privilege of at least doing low approaches and possibly arrested landings is now completely lost. Sad.
1st.. Why don't you go get a Corsair? That's the first thing. The second thing is that you actually give the Corsair to me. The next thing is you put the Eisenhower underway. The reason I can't use the U.S.S. America is because you had it sunk. Anyways, I will actually land the Corsair on deck once you're underway. How's that?

Why aren't you cradling the fuselage from underneath with wide yellow straps both in front of the wing AND on the aft part of the fuse, and then linking those up to the hook as well? Just make sure you're not binding up close to the trailing edge of the wing. I can't believe you're doing this, this way.
That was neat to see her being hoisted aboard. Was the Avenger brought up as well?
