- As promised in the previous video, today I’m showing you how to unlock the hidden menu on the BMW Z4 E89. This works on many other BMWs of the same age. Such as BMW e90, BMW e92, etc. you will find that you can see a lot of useful information such as the coolant temperature, perform instrument cluster test, sound test and even reset the software.

How to Calculate compensation numbers:
If you calculated that your car is getting 30mpg, but car shows 33mpg you are off by 9.09% (3/33=9.09%). Once you are in the hidden menu, you will notice that the factory default is 1000, so if you need to adjust it by 9.09%, it would become 909 instead of the 1000 (1000+9.09%=1091).

1.0 Chassis number
1.1 Kilometer count
1.2 Parts number
1.3 Coding-, Diagnostic- and Bus-index
1.4 Production Date (Calendar week/year)
1.5 Hard- and Software status
1.6 Injector status, Cylinder count, Engine factor.
2.0 Combisystem Test
3.0 Service intervall counter
4.0 Actual fuel consumption in l/100km. eg.0154 = 15,4 liters/100kms.
4.1 Consumption in liters/100kms.
5.0 Distance consumption in l/100kms.
5.1 Actual rest distance with available fuel in Kms.
6.0 Actual amount of fuel in tank. eg. 123321 =12,3liters left 32,1 liters right
6.1 Total amount of fuel in tank.
6.2 Show value of Fuel guage. 1= both senders OK, 2= sender failure, 3=ti signal implausible (no reading)
7.0 Actual coolant temp.
7.1 Actual outside temp.
7.2 Actual engine revs.
7.3 Actual speed
9.0 Actual on board voltage (Battery)
10.0 Land codes
11.0 Unit codes
13.0 Gong test
14.0 - 14.4 On board diagnostic codes. eg 000000 = no failures
19.0 On/Off for Test menu.
20.0 Correction factor for Fuel consumption
Formula for correction:
Shown consumption x 1000 / user defined consumption
Push the trip reset button to begin the correction. Numbers count up from 0-9, when correct number shows push trip reset button.
20.1 Sets 10ths. for consumption factor
20.2 Sets 100ths. and 1000ths. for consumption factor
20.3 Saves the new consumption factor and shows new value
21.0 Software reset. (Same as disconnecting battery)

Hey dude, I love your channel! And have subscribed! I just picked up a Z4 2011, manual. I got a good deal with only 18,208 miles! Do you advice changing the battery? It’s been sitting and the mechanic, whom I don’t know, is telling me that a dying, weak battery may be causing codes to pop up!
Welcome to the channel! Check out my Z4 videos, there should be plenty for you to watch :). Your car sounds awesome and practically brand new with such low miles. I wouldn't change the battery until you start seeing signs that it's weak. If you get a battery warning when you turn the car on or play music on the radio with car off for 5 minutes, it's time. Otherwise, it till has plenty of juice.

What’s up, S.C.G.! Is there a danger in completely removing the battery on my e89 in order to replace it with a new one? My battery is in bad shape and it needs replacing. Do I need to keep voltage running through the system? Is there a danger of the modules loosing their programming? Thanks man!
People argue about this all the time, but I’ve never had any issues and it’s part of BMW’s steps for most jobs involving electronics. No issues with programming at all. Just make sure the car is Off when you unplug it.

Is there a way to adjust the speedometer? From the factory my 2014 Z4 reads too high.

Hi , I bought a BMW 2009 35i because of your videos! One thing I'm trying to do - the remote control will open the hard top like you demonstrated in a previous video, but it won't close it. My logic is that if it can open it, the functionality must be there to close it, but I don't know how to enable it. Any suggestions welcome! Louis in France

Does your car have comfort access? Check the door handle for little 'ridges', if it has those, you have comfort access (and you can start the car without inserting the key).

Louis O'Dwyer if you stick the key into the driver door lock, the sunroof will close.you have to keep it in the locked position .

Hi do you know how we can change de transport mode? My bottoms de-icing and A/C doesn't work following battery changes thanks for you help
I think you’ll need a bmw specific scanner for that. I haven’t seen this option in the menu, but you probably want to do more research.

Isn’t there any aftermarket cluster, the cluster looks quite old.
I like it. Most of the interior looks over 10 years old as the car was designed before 2009. My other car has a digit cluster, so it’s nice to have a bit of a difference.

Hi, Can I change the speedometer into miles/hr instead of KM/h?
You can’t change the Speedo to km/h through this unfortunately. That has to be coded.
hey man mine didn't work I add the last 4 digits of my vin to unlock nothing happen still lock. am I missing a step?
