- Been getting asked a lot of questions about the van and people wanting to see the van when i have been away on some of the adventures so thought i would do a video on how the van has evolved over the last few years it has become more important to me as been having to stay away on the longer journeys to the mountains. will be doing a second part as the van is currently away getting some big modifications done at the moment.
About the only vid where bedding is shown. A few less ` eehhs` in the next one maybe 😉

Beautiful job. You don't need more than this really. Did you buy the units in from a company? I didn't see an EHU socket.
Hi it sure does the job , the 16 amp hook up socket is hidden just under the back bumper, i found a cabinet maker on ebay down in Preston he makes the furniture for the transporters and caddys i collected them and fitted them my self you still have to scribe and cut them to fit the van yourself. Hi yip Scottish accent😂the parts were made to size and fitted by myself the rock and roll bed was made to size , the furniture was made by a cabinet maker and i fitted them everything else i pretty much done myself i have done the full conversion now with the pop top as well if you fancy watching the other 2 parts Thanks again Ally.👍
The van looks amazing Ally, great layout, it must be very satisfying having done a lot of the work yourself, certainly a great Basecamp for Scotland's Mountain's 👌 atb Brian 👍

Which Rock and Roll bed did you get? All the examples I've seen span almost fully across the vehicle however, you have a ton more space for the other furniture!?
Hi thanks for viewing the video, I got the bed made to size to accommodate the furniture, the bed is 900mm wide by 1800mm long it's a standard manual lever operation not like the spring loaded ones. But does the job the furniture I think is about 400mm deep . I used a company in England think there name was hammonds .
Fantastic! I’d try making furniture myself but the welding and framing is beyond me, your build appears to have so much more functional room than the rest, very well designed. Can’t wait to find the right caddy to get started on something similar.

that conversion is super nice. You say you done the conversion yourself but was it a flat pack or built or all had done?
Hi thanks for viewing, I got the furniture made down in Preston but i had to collect it and fit it in the van myself still had to scribe to shape of the van and cut out for sink and hob also the rock and roll bed was made to size i got delivered and fitted myself as well , the side windows got a company to fit but everything else i did myself plumbing , electrical, diesel heater , carpeting been great project to work on and still not finished hope to get another video up when got the next stage done . Looks like great workmanship and the perfect camper for Scotland's remote places. Would much rather have this than one of those huge contraptions that folk insist on cluttering the roads up with.

Really torn with the maxi or swb caddy, yours has got me thinking , just subscribed.
Most tell me the Maxi but they are a lot more , getting a decent one with good mileage etc.. is 2.5-3k more than the same swb caddy. For me not sure how much I’d use it so paying so much more is a hard decision
Thanks for the subscription, the maxi is 400mm longer doesn't sound much but it does make the difference I've had mine for over 3 years now was expensive i traded my BMW in for it it was a hard decision as loved that car but the caddy is exactly what i needed as i am away most weekends in it roaming about in the mountains it done just over 80000 miles now which for a diesel is nothing if you keep it well services but great vans very sturdy compared to a lot of other vans out there. Hi Mate, did you have any problems with insurance with adding the seats? my company just said that they cant insure me with any mods.
Hi yip i had to move companies as they wouldn't insure me because of the modifications, i got insured with Adrian flux they specify in modified vans i had to insure it as motorhome insurance due to all the modification that's been done and the value of the van ended up double the amount but was to be expected. Nice and neat Ally. Gotta have some sort of HQ/Basecamp. Makes all the difference. The money you’ve spent would only have been spent on other accommodation... Enjoy. 😊
Yip it makes some difference as can just jump in the van a go anywhere and you have everything you need it has made it so much easier for getting away on the overnighters to the further away mountains. ATB Ally👍

That's a class conversion Ally. Looking forward to seeing the upgrades. Can you please show the fold down double seat as it looks like a good alternative to the Caddy Swivel seat conundrum.
Hi Thanks for watching the video really appreciate that , i have another 2 videos part 2 and 3 on the van but don't think it shows the the bench seat out i made it my self as it gives you extra seating at both ends of the table was always trying to find ways to maximise the space in a smaller van. I think i will make a wee video with all the updates and more in-depth what i have done and get it out soon and show the seat opened out its real basic but works as two things a seat and a step to get up to the pop top. Very nice job. How do you cope with coming back after a ride covered in shite? I would be too afraid to mess up the interior.
Thanks yip i am the same i hate getting it all messed up but after getting the poptop fitted its giving me so much more room and to be able to stand up helps to get change after a hike or cycle. just fitted a storage box to the back of the van aswell so helps out with the mess aswell. ATB Ally 👍
Love this, I’m only 5ft 6 so I’m getting the VW caddy SWB for just weekend trips , shows what you can do with a smaller space !
Hi thanks for watching the caddy are great wee vans and it's just all about how to organise everything to utilise the space after getting the poptop it's been agame changer being able to stand up and having a extra bed aswell. Just found this video and now subscribed Ally. Cracking job on your van buddy; really smart and you've used the space available to you very well. Is the van now classed as a camper buddy and does this impact on insurance and road tax? Also Ally, can your Caddy tow a caravan and if so, what is the max weight?

Hi John really glad you liked the video i mostly walk the mountains and this wee van has done me great on my journey the road tax just the same I am still converting but according to dvla this can't be classified as a camper as need to be able to stand up with a fixed roof so probably end up being a day van but still doing more to it and just done a big mod so hopefully have a video start of October with the new mods , I also have the tow bar used for my bike rack but will tow a caravan as this is the 2 litre caddy maxi not to sure of the weight as done so many mods , also the caddy engine really good for tuning so could get more torque for towing if required,. Hi Colin been a great project and now i have it fully converted with the poptop give me so much more room. I went for the smaller van as well for the same reason for ease of getting into smaller camping spaces and getting up and down the single-track roads. Atb Ally 👍
Cracking conversion mate but make sure that co2 metre is higher up, you’ve got it sat just above where your sleeping so by the time the co2 sets the alarm off you’ll be struggling to breath needs to be a high as possible

Looks like you're doing an excellent job... think I'd need a handy door to change the gas bottle, also, if you lose the awning, you could think about a canopy and use those super duper suckers that stick to the van 😊❤

Hi John yip took a bit of planning to get it to all fit and still not be cramed in , usually take the 12v cool box on days out or the bigger 12/230v fridge when on campsite as it can sit in the awning. Atb Ally 👍

Van looks class. Doing driving lessons in the new year, plan is to get a comverted Caddy, chuck a bike rack on the back and go around Germany next summer. Cos we're clearly no gettin summers anymore!

Awesome van thanks for sharing, some great ideas there. Ive got the rock n roll bed in still need the furniture, not sure if i try build myself, defo need that pop top, wasn't sure but after seeing yours.. QUESTION can you please explain how that box works that goes behind the front seats?
Hi Richard thanks for viewing after getting the poptop it has given me so much more room and head hight it's a big investment but we'll worth doing. The bulkhead behind the front seats I made a cls frame with ply on each end it houses a lot of the cables going to leisure battery and solar controls so I thought how could I utilise it so I then thought when parked up put the seats forward I could make in to a bench seat and a step for getting up to poptop, I measured between the bulkhead and seats and used a piece of ply which was secured with a piano hinge the full length, underneath I just used 3 large gate hinges which swing down and slot in to a perforated steel bar that runs along bottom of bulk head. Hopefully this might help I am probably doing another video soon with some more mods I will put it in the video how it work Hopefully bee a bit easier than trying to explain. Atb Ally 👍

Hi Paul i got the furniture made to size to fit the van from a guy down in Preston, and got the rock and roll bed made to size as well from a company down south, but done all the rest myself was fun doing it . Didn't get up the hills this week as had to drop the van of in fife on Friday will be up there till next weekend getting the pop-top roof installed been looking forward to getting this done for a long time now will make so much difference to the van with hight and an extra bed as well. @PAADVENTURES1 It sure is Paul the price of campers are so expensive the now by doing it yourself you can do it as it suits and the way you want it , its a lot cheaper, I found the guy on ebay he has his own work shop at his house with the cnc machine for the furniture.
