For all the hate you are going to get, and are getting, for this woody wagon, here's a thumbs up from me! I'm always down with preserving AND USING old iron for the public to enjoy seeing on the road. Taking something like this and squirreling it away would be a travesty as it's so nice. Good for you guys!
Tucked away, cars is one of the reasons you don't see them on the road anymore.
That ain’t a wagon just a 4 door hatch back. Wagon needs a third row facing back. If you never experienced that as a kid nuff said.
Thanks for your contribution, Mr. Webster
Most people don't know how fun a k car can be.
Hell yeah!
Andy has been a good addition to the channel, love his humor.
Man I love when Aaron comes on camera and gets his hands dirty. Thanks for all the editing work you do man!
Exactly what the world needs right now!❤
🎉🔥🏁
all this time i thought it was Erin. The more you know.
The car we all wanted to see😂😂 Seriously Deboss fleet needed a funny car
This is your best project ever! Maximum absurdity. Too many serious projects on UA-cam, and this is just fun. Excellent.
I had a Edsel, it drove my buddy with the 1970 Challenger R/T covert. Nuts. Everyone wanted a picture with my car and they just glanced at his
Oh man, when you two get together, it is a riot. An evening with 1, 2 or 12 beers with you two would be epic. Thx for the video, super entertaining guys.
Man this car is so clean and such a throwback I almost dont want to see it turn into a wheelie machine. What if you put the hemi at the front and try to make it a hell of a sleeper 😅
That cut and shots of the k car in the intro is amazing. Nice job Aaron, makes me want one more!
We also had a K car. It was a 1984 Plymouth Reliant. It had the Mopar engine. We also ordered a Plymouth Caravelle that used the same engine but it was a fuel injected car. Thank you for sharing your Mitsubishi powered car. Enjoy. Our car was given to our son after he was married. It met an untimely end. It was T-boned in an intersection by a "stolen" car. The Plymouth Caravelle was driven until the wheels fell off. It had over 350,000 km in Canada. I had changed the engine oil almost religiously.
Hell yeah! I've been waiting to see you guys work on this since you bought it! If the Hemi ends up not working out you could always swap an SRT4 drivetrain into it, or if it fits a Honda K-series to have a K-powered K Car!
I grew up in the 80’s and we had three kcars!! I have a 1991 acclaim(2nd generation) and restored it. It has more room inside because I’m 6’5”. I would love to have a first gen Plymouth voyager. Wonderful wonderful memories
Been a mechanic for 20yr
My first job as a mechanic was fixing a friends acclaim that wouldn’t start.
It snapped the camshaft in half?
Spent all winter night with a flashlight learning what engine timing was.
Got it done!!!
I think I got $150
Everyone was happy as hell😂
And he still drove that thing long as I lived in the area.
Hilarious video. Andy &Aaron is the best
Would be cool to see this with the drivetrain from an EVO 9. Never seen that before and would be a total sleeper. God bless and lots of love from Norway.
I really love the intros you give each series. They are always like a cinematic experience.
Wagons are the best, everyone needs at least one in their life
The large speaker hole is for the AM only radio that was still offered “back in the day”. The car would have only the one speaker and nothing else. You guys ended up with the luxury edition, what luck! Enjoy that thing, brings me back decades, as every third kid in high school had one iteration or another of this car. Mom and Dad had handed this down to them, and it was party time! The wrap job looks better than factory original.
actually they had a mono AM-FM option if I recall properly(as a kid). but yes that was for the lowest end wagon/car audio option.
my first used junker had a mono- am/fm radio. of course I upgraded it for fm stereo cassette and random old house speakers iN the rear(hatch-back), it worked and heard over the road/wind noise of windows down summers.
Man, This just makes me feel nostalgic for my 90 lebaron. Then I remember how terrible that thing was, But it has the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a car
The same thing I was thinking. Crap car but comfortable
It reminds me of the car that John Candy and Steve Martin drove/caught on fire in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but it was a little newer.
"How do they know we're going the wrong way!" 👍
Truly the throw away car of the 80's!! Next to the Yugo, there wasn't a more revered crusher mobile in the world. . even more Pintos and Mustang II's have survived!!
Brilliant! That's what car guys do.
Best regards from Indiana, USA.
Love it! I worked for a business that had a 2-door, 4-spd K-car wagon that was awesome! Delivered many stereos with it….a buddy had a wagon exactly like yours in high school. We called it the “battle bucket”. You can guess where it ended up….
Step mom had a '84 Km car wagon that I used as a trainer when learning to drive. It didn't last two years. Had the transmission replaced under warranty with 20,000 miles on it and when it started running like crap during a trip to Colorado from Texas, Dad traded it in on a Camry.
I find Andy's humor really entertaining. This channel really has it all!
K-car was what I learned to drive in. That thing was tough as nails and was done in when a Town Lincoln t boned me writing it off.
Wow, I forgot that a lot of those had the 2.6 Mitsubishi engine in them. I'm used to seeing the 2.2 Mopar 4 banger (with or without turbo). My neighbor had an Omni GLH with the 2.2 turbo, and it was a rocket!😂 The broken pipe is actually for EGR. Just set the timing back a couple degrees to keep the pre-ignition down, and you'll be good! Those engines have a bit of a slow cam in them to try to meet emissions for the day when they were still carbureted. I dunno if you could even GET a performance cam that would eliminate that.🤷♂ *EDIT:* The plastic hubcaps you got actually fit the vintage of the car nicely!😉
One loose drain plug bolt away from gettin a hemi...gotta.love the one-liners. Thanks for the video - great to see the little stuff getting done too
Always wanted to do this. Cant wait to see it running
My late wife had a neighbor who worked for ComEd in Illinois and their "policy" was called temporary permanent fix. If the repair held it was repaired permanently if it broke it was a temporary fix until "parts" were available for it !!
Paint the trim with a dark brown acrylic paint and wipe it off. It will get into the nooks of the fake grain and make it pop. 😉
I’m Lee Iacocca and I approve of this video.
I am so very thankful that I found your channel! Y'all have so much fun and y'all share it with us! I honestly don't believe I have watched one installment on your channel that hasn't made me smile at least a few times!!! Please keep the awesome content comin'!!!
Also I have always wanted to take a 1987ish Plymouth Voyager yank out the anemic factory drive train and stuff a built 426 between and behind the front seats kinda like the early to mid 60s Mopar and Ford vans had and back it up with a 4- or 5-speed tranny! I'm thinking that would almost have to be the ULTIMATE grocery getter!!!!
Looks Excellent Guys
These guys have so much fun!
That car puts a smile on my face. What a find!
This episode is out of the park....!!...😎😜
Great work Andy & Aaron!
Nice to see you just having a ball with this . I have to see a hemi in this jewel man i cant wait
Now I want it! It looks great!
You guys are nearly the same in subscribers as Cold war motors. And as an American you 2 are the best automotive UA-camrs. You need to collab. I'd watch the crap out of that. And you both deserve way more then so many other car channels.
4 hours from my house to Dunneville. I’m going to take the ride just to look for this K Car driving around!
Love the woody and the intro.
such a sweet ride!
I found that this family of motors developed tons of vacuum leaks. Once I replaced every vacuum line, and barbed fitting it actually ran fairly well.
Im jealous, thats a gem lol
That what I drove to get my license when I was 16. They were great little cars and the turbo cars or turbo caravan were the best . Good video
83 Dodge rampage. Flying down the highway. Bang. Just a simple backfire, I thought. End up getting it towed home. Find out the rotor in the distributor sheared the index tab and rotated 180 out of time. Only K car I ever had. Still have the aluminum Gem top canopy too.
Love the simple things, like gas struts that work 😀😀
I drove a few rental K-Cars as an electronic service tech in the late 80’s. The 2.2 l auto was ok but they mostly had air conditioning which was nice. I wound up driving a 2.2 l Plymouth Horizon a lot, which did not have AC and had to be moving to get any airflow but it would do 140 kph on the 401, which was fun. With the windows down the unlocked back hatch opened up on the highway once..that was funny.
I absolutely love this thing
They had wire hubcap back in the day.
This don't look half bad considering the limited selection.
Great content love these odd ball cars.
I have an 86 turbo town and country with the mark cross interior I’m here for the k car content
This has a lot of class. That headliner will be interesting.
Looks great
looks great mate
Brother l absolutely Love your channel l have learned a lot watching your channel Thank You keep up the Awesome videos.
When they ran they were a decent drive. Nothing flashy but it would get you from point A to point B, they are vacuum nightmares.
I love these things, I’ve got an SRT4 swapped K car that looks very similar to this one.
All aboard for Walley World..
Love this thing sooooo much. 🏴🇨🇦
The B roll montage beauty shots of the wagon. Hehehe Nice.
I love the wagon!
I think it looks great w those hubcap, nice old car!
A little tech tip for you on Chrysler glass. It always weights more than others because when it's manufactured they have a higher content of silica in it for sound control. All the older Chrysler glass was a true 1/4 inch thick unlike other manufacturers who were progressing towards thinner glass for weight savings and fuel economy
I use to have a 1988 Reliant sedan. It was such a piece of crap when i had it but man I wish I could get it back. Wagon looks awesome.
The 2000-2003 prius had a pretty unoffensive aluminum 14” wheel that also shares the 4x100 bolt pattern.
I love this!
It's already got a Hemi in it. That little G54b for the most part only ever got hemi heads excluding the Magnas (Australia) and the HKS prototype rally Starion. If anything it's the biggest issue with turning these into a performance engine if you don't already have the MCA jet valves in the head.
12cyl of hemi.
He should run both engines together on track.
Rally drivers figured out you don’t have to have two engines that make similar power.
One strong and one weak works great.
A legend once had a twin vw engines,
Rear was turbo
Front was na
And they play together happily. 😊
Classmate had a wagon like this. He would turn the AC on going down the road and it would drop down to 90kph.
We had a 2 door LeBaron Sedan same year, ran great. MPG around 36
Dannnnng... Y'all are making me miss my good old little two door 86 Chevette! :D
Yeah, there's gotta be like tens of guys with these sweet ass rigs.
I have a 1985 Dodge Aries wagon with a 4 speed manual in it. I wound up putting a Weber carburetor on it. Mine is pretty basic. If you get bored, I do have some videos on my channel with the wagon in it.
wow what an epic intro!!!
the grishwalt truckster 🥰🥰
yes im that old 😇😁🤣
There is no way I could ever drink a beer with Andy. I'd be pissing my pants laughing so hard😅
You grab the beers, I’ll bring the adult diapers. We can piss and drink all day long. And work on things too of course
No way your cutting this up, andy is in love with this car😂
needs to be slammed and on 19s i reckon but im an aussie and thats what we do to wagons 😂loved the vid guys 🤘🤠👍🇦🇺
I've got myself a Celebrity 4banger with 48K on the clock. Sweet daily driver!
She's a Beauty Cark!
It's a MOPAR, f course it's worth saving !!!!!!! Expat ontarioan in australia !
I had a buddy in highschool and his dad sold cars for a Dodge dealer and his dad always was bringing new cars home and we would cruise around in them. The early 80s dodges they would get abused bad and they were brand new demos, Daytona, mini van k car nothing cooler than watching a digital speedometer go to warp speed on a icy road. Everyone was a smoker. Dodge dealers were rolling back the speedometers on new cars because they had to many miles on them. 🤠
A friend of mine owns a fiberglass shop. He had a lady whose parents owned one of these and the faux wood had deteriorated and she wanted it restored. He spent about a year making molds of the pieces and replacing them. It was expensive but she wanted it right.
That speaker hole was for the standard AM only radio. That car had the FM radio uograde option!!! So you get 2 speakers for stereo!!
Great 👍 one
2.6 Mitsubishi, oh boy. Timing chain guides, balance shaft bearings, and head gaskets / warped heads. Dont miss them at all
That 2.6L engine is known as a G54B. It's the same engine that came in the Mitsubishi Starion.
And the Mazda B2600, Mighty max/D50 first and second gens, monteros, pajeros, challengers, minivans, busses, etc. They were everywhere. I'd say it's like the SBC of mitsubishi just from how widely it was used. Really wish we had something better than the Hemi heads for it here in the states.
Carburetors on those were a nightmare, 50,000 vacuum lines and a phenolic body so you couldn't dip it in carb solvent. As a driveability tech, I hated them. But when they worked, they ran great
@@dave1135 The only time I see carb'd G54b's anymore is with weber 32/36 conversions. Hell, my PowerRam 50's got one too before I bought it. I wouldn't say it's more efficient in terms of economy, but the fact you can eliminate all the emissions stuff and cut out 90% of the vacuum lines, it's a worthwhile mod just for longevities sake.
I loved the low low cost of ownership if you didn't beat on them. Value right there.
I remember my dad noting that the 15" wheels on my 92 grand marquis were big! (And I'm only 40!)
Always wanted to find the old Direct Connection smallblock K-frame for the K-car.
And find a nice, 'Griswald' green woodie wagon similar to this.
Run a mild 360/904/8.75 & make a fun little street & strip car.
Are you old enough to remember the Morris Minorv wagon that had the 427 in the back... he was from Stoney Creek i think.
Used to drive it with the 1000cc engine with the yarn clutch... blowby galore.
He'd pull up to the lights and shut down the Morris. Yiud hear the air starter spin up the 427 after he reeled the tonneau off the injector flutes through the roof.
The 2.6 turbo from the Starion would be cool too.
We had one when I was a kid.
It was an 87 and yes, we drove it into the ground, until the engine started knocking.
I always thought it would be cool to make one of these a sleeper, big engine under the hood and RWD.
I love this car!
Would love to drive it daily!
Cheers from europe!
Classing up Dunnville one K car at a time.
That would be an awesome drag and drive car.
I owned 3 of the Australian versions, loved them all. Destroyed 1 and drove the other 2 into the ground. All crushed over here as well.
13:28 real heavy gauge metal and thick rear glass, the plastic and insulation weigh not much unless water logged, but fiberglass doesn't hold water well(unless frozen to ice).
they were designed to keep and hold 500LBS+ material/food/random material(kids) from slamming out the back when turning fast or steep inclines.
relatives back then hauled wheels of swiss cheese and multiple 50lbs crates of smoked meats at once, which would wildly slide around on the steep grades(20%+)
Planes, trains and automobiles. That's the car..
I remember back when I was a kid my mom had a brand new one of those cars it was a 1985,Kay car we didn’t have the wood on it tho😂 it was the first time riding in a brand new car 😂
