I feel bad posting this because that was an awesome 900 (style wise) and to do it at that age after all he has been through is amazing... but, isn't a 900 on a mega ramp roll-in to oversize QP a bit different from a standard half pipe?
I was lucky enough to grow up around the prahran bowl as a kid in Melbourne. I remember watching them after the pool in summer. Tas and Ben pappas were legends back then... pity about how life turned out for Ben. I hope things a better now for Tas.
Many people need to understand something here; almost landing a trick first doesn't mean shit. It certainly doesn't entitle you claim the trick is yours or saying you did it first. There is only doing. You either LANDED it first, or you did not.
To all those who say "but hawk did it first!": I don't give a shit about who did it first. Whoever works on such a hard trick for so long and finally lands it has my respect. I don't even skateboard much (but used to rollerblade a lot) and never landed the 720, let alone a 900. This guy is awesome. Period.

Damn, I had no idea that he and Ben went to jail during this period. I used to love these dudes. Also had no idea Tas managed to land the 900. I saw Tony do one at sports and music festival 3d back in like 99/2000. It was on top of the hard rock cafe and during that same weekend Danny Way was jumping out of helicopters into the ramp. Rode in an elevator with Colin Mckay and he gave me his current board while he setup another one. My asshole little brother stole it from me and sold it. Had the biggest wheel wells I'd ever seen.
Hawk refused to skate in the XGames if Tas competed because he knew that Pappas had already landed it in practice. Hawk was the poster boy for skating.

@Chris 1983 tony said on several occasions a bunch guys were trying the 900 since the mid 80s. They all put the the work in. Tony just happened to land it that night on television. Does suck that guy got kicked out of the comp tho.

In the 80s you had Hawk vs Hosoi and that was battle, in the 90s you had Hawk vs the Pappas brothers and that was no competition as your just seeing Hawk get destroyed and humiliated..
Considering Tony Hawk was the first person to land it in 1999 with heaps of other people attempting it and Tas Pappas was the 12th to land it 15 years later (at almost 40 too when Hawk has pretty much stopped before he hit the big four oh) it proves its a pretty difficult thing to do, but good on ya Tas for keeping Australia on the map and finally accomplishing something you have been trying for ages! You could almost be the next Tony Hawk mate! Just goes to show you put in the hard yards for something you'll get the reward at the end and now your on the list! When's the new video game comin out? :D

Tony Hawk was and still is far from stopped though, landed a 900 on a regular ramp at 48, the year after your comment, then broke his femur and came back to land a 540 while in rehab at 55... quite the achievement.

This guy and his Brother were very underrated pro skaters. I saw a documentary on them a few years ago on Amazon video or Netflix, it was awesome.
