Unplugging from social media

  • Its been a while ladies & gentlemen but in that time I have had some revelations. Firstly, I disconnected from social media cold turkey. With the exception of looking up a few Ketoserts recipes for a gathering, that was it. I haven’t posted in 7.5 weeks and felt that I needed to do this experiment not only for myself but to see that I can do it. I have been reading Jim Kwik “Limitless” and its been inspiring to say the least. It made me look at my life and what I find is important to me. Yes, I love my channel because it connects, but I am not a slave to it to keep up with the algorithms and consistency that UA-cam has in high regard. I also found virtual reality pioneer Jaron Lanier quite interesting. His book “Ten Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now” Jaron Lanier participates in no social media, however his book offers powerful and personal reasons for all of us to leave these dangerous online platforms for our own sanity. Now he also states that we cannot disconnect from family and friends, but we can take back control of not being slaves to our devices. Jim Kwik also sends the message of how we can use our devices to work for us nit against us, to take time out and stop all the notifications and distractions. Since taking off all my notifications weeks ago, I don’t look at my phone as much, and realise that there is nothing that is “life or death”. Realising that I was living off each ping and ding on my phone, laptop and computer was causing me to spend my precious time on this earth on devices and accomplishing absolutely nothing.
It’s not about turning our backs on technology, that’s now virtually impossible, it’s about being “aware” and “conscious” of our choices and making sure that we are the ones setting the boundaries and creating our own rules. Not Facebooks rules, not UA-cam’s incredible algorithms that keep you hooked watching video after video until you fall asleep watching something.
I now hear parents saying they go away camping for the long weekend without any devices and it takes a few times before the kids get used to it. Others disconnect their Wi-Fi on Friday afternoons till Monday morning so they can spend time with the kids to have a conversation. These little stories show me that we can so easily spend the rest of our precious lives being completely unawares that we are addicted to social media.
For me life is more than just the number of ‘likes’ on my channel, it’s about making someone’s day, week, month or year. It’s about inspiring others to understand their greatness and take the journey into themselves. I am not phased whether someone likes me or hates me. That is irrelevant. And to be honest I truly don’t care. I don’t need to justify myself to anyone. I am here to help you and others. The rest is up to you. You all have a choice. I hope you all make the best choices and don’t let life pass you by and die with your greatness still in you! Why do I care? Because I just do. Can’t help it. That’s my purpose my loves.
Love ya all 💝 from the bottom of my heart

I find you insightful, funny, likable, and genuine. I found you because I follow Isabel Paige and watched your video about her. Been a subscriber since then. FYI, I’m from Florida, in the United States.

Wow, thank you for your beautiful comment. I really appreciate when people take the time to make a comment. I don't believe in being another persona on social media. Its not easy to be yourself, because well...most people wont like it. I didn't start his channel for people to like me, or to be competitive and gain millions of subscribers. I am stoked that I have the ones that I do! 😳😂😍 But mostly it was because alot of people told me that I should just do it, get out there and bare myself to the world. Which wasn't so frightening as I initially thought, because I am generally a private person. In saying that, I also am a friendly person and I will talk to anyone even when I go to the supermarket. My husband would ask me, what took you so long? Did you meet someone and had a chat? He knows me so well 😂 But mostly I love interacting with people, especially the elderly because I know they are lonely, bored. It makes their day and it makes my day. I just love connecting with everyone. Anyhow again 🙏 thank you! 😊 Have a wonderful day.

@@venetiarawunfiltered1824 Yes to, "Its not easy to be yourself, because well...most people wont like it." I particularly find that people don't want to hear the truth. If I need to be fake so that you like me, then we're not going to be able to have a friendship / relationship. It's paramount to be genuine, then you'll attract the right people.
