I still use XP on a daily basis, yes... online, yes... for modern tasks. It is still fully usable for almost all modern tasks even in 2023. Mypal 68 is a great browser, and there are still lots of software that support it, and if you cant find what you need, an old version will probably still work for a lot of things. It isn't difficult, and Windows XP is not going anywhere any time soon.
Protip: in recovery or preinstall environment of Windows 8 and onwards, you can literally just clean the bootdrive (C: in Windows). This saves a lot of time manually deleting useless partitions. It's three commands: diskpart -> sel dis [X] -> clean (where [X] may be 0, but mustn't be, to be sure you can "det dis" which should show its info).
Actually since Windows XP. You just had to know what to do. Insert XP CD, load it, when you get to the first screen after the loading, Press "R" for repair. This will bring up the the command prompt. Failing that, you can use Vista as Windows 8 uses the same install environment that Vista uses.
The Windows XP OOBE theme hits different knowing this OS is 22 years old, i remember my parents first PC was running xp (IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY) and i would play fishing frenzy on it, good times

And the fact that 64bit was so bad ruined me.... Try installing software onto a terminal server via 32bit xp when the installation stops automatically because 32bit (CD-ROM, copying was not an option) So... 2h download of the software update :(
It works just as good as regular XP, crappy drivers and old apps/games using 16bit installers are the only problems I came across. If anything, you can get a little more use out of the x64 version since many apps aren’t compiled in x86 as commonly anymore.
Chrome's last version that supports Windows Xp is very outdated by modern web standards and It doesn't support contemporary web features used in moder websites. For browsing the web with an ancient OS I recommend the browser Mypal.

Yep, there is a gas station in my city that had windows xp for the cash registers until a few months ago. 1 of them was still running windows 2000 too.
I used Windows XP on 15th of January this year and it still works fine. On my older P4 computer. Only the DVD drives are NOT working properly. Also, the RAM is just 256MB, despite 128MB being recommended amount of RAM. Also, the sound card is damaged. Also, there is NO cable for the floppy disk drive. I will make sure to add a DDR1 1GB RAM, repair the DVD drives or buy new ones, put a new sound card, and a cable for the floppy disk drive. And buy a new CRT monitor and a keyboard and mouse for sure.

When XP debuted, 70% of the world still used CRTs, in both technologies tho 4:3 and 5:4 resolutions like 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024 were still king and common. 1080p as in 1920x1080 was just a niche, a really small niche. 1600x1200 was already seen as a high resolution tbh. Windows 95 for instance was designed with 640x480 in mind and that's why whenever you emulate it on a modern computer things look absolutely small. Windows Vista still had old screens in mind despite being smack in the middle of the HD revolution but the large Windows 7 bar that we still have to this day (refined ofc) was the first time we saw a UI designed for HD resolutions. Use Windows 7, 8.1, 10 or god forbid 11 on a 1024x768 screen and you'll feel cramped (there's small icons mode tho which fixes some of the problems but the windows 10/11 menus are huge not to mention the full screen menu in 8.1

There are few softwares in which are a must if you're going to run Windows XP for any reason, is legacy update, it will get your system as up to date as possible from replacement Microsoft servers, it works all the way up to Windows 8.1, MyPal - a software based off of pale Moon, which is based off of an old version of Firefox ESR, it runs pretty good on older Windows XP hardware, another software I heavily recommend you get is VLC, yes the latest version of VLC still works on Microsoft Windows XP. Also, I would recommend getting seven zip because yes the .exe version of 7zip still runs on Windows XP. And if you can find an old version of java, you can play up to Minecraft 1.12.2 reasonably well with only 2 gigs of RAM. Of course I recommend using a jar only alternative Minecraft launcher, namely Tlauncher.
I recently installed WinXP on a HP Elite 8300, while there were some challenges, it worked great. The computers both VGA and HDMI output. The HP PC is only about 10 years old and runs Windows 10 too.
Recently set up a windows xp to run older games on it and I can say god do I love it, 4gb ram, core 2 quad q8200, gt730 and 250gb SSD (I had a 160 gb HDD that I got from e-waste but it had some issues so I just use it for games now), I can pretty much get games like Fallout new vegas, Metro 2033 and dark souls to run on ultra graphics and the load times are amazing cus there's no bloat ware to slow the pc down in the background!
One of my aunts gave me that same EXACT computer a couple years and I stripped it out and turned it into a sleeper PC with an i5-9600K, and ASUS Dual RX 6600, and 16GB of memory. This was in my internship 2022 in an IT department, administration. Why would one need something like this? Well, their brand new > 100k CNC Machines use embedded XP, and SMB to get the job data, so the server has to support SMBv1, which is hella insecure.
Easy fix is to use windows 10 installer usb and use SHIFT F10 and format the disk to ntfs, once its 20% done unplug the usb and restart into xp installer, change sata mode in BIOS to compatible then load into the setup and use quick format in windows xp.

You got list of partitions you can choose, simply delete the partition. When you are required to select a partion to install the OS, choose the new unallocated drive/ partition. Since, it is Windows XP this unallocated drive will be formatted with MBR. Also, you can modify your OS image file adding required files (which is usually very difficult to find) to be able to install in your laptop.

Big companies and Institutions like Military and Banks Still use XP because they can't afford the Bugs and compatibility issues that will come with updating the OS

You got list of partitions you can choose, simply delete the partition. When you are required to select a partion to install the OS, choose the new unallocated drive/ partition. Since, it is Windows XP this unallocated drive will be formatted with MBR.
Also, you can modify your OS image file adding required files (which is usually very difficult to find) to be able to install in your laptop.
Now I remember using network dongle for internet and luckily I had my drivers on discs.

There used to be a hacky method towards getting the real Windows Updates to work in XP SP3 by implementing modern protocols through a mixture of requisite updates, some registry patches, and HTTPSProxyServer but I think Microsoft is gonna get rid of the old webpage it relies on entirely by the end of the year.

Old windows os still can be use as long as your latest hardware drivers support winxp... E.g vga, lan and mobo chipset...
Big companies and Institutions like Military and Banks Still use XP because they can't afford the Bugs and compatibility issues that will come with updating the OS

I think you make it bigger fuss than it really is. Anything before like 2015-2016 will have drivers for XP and ebay is full of working pcs from that era
You should try using Windows 7 in 2023. Windows 7 should be more usable, as it is more recent, ended support only a few years ago & many apps still support it.
