OLD BOLSOVER ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - The adult education centre used to be the Junior School or National school (Nats). It was originally a "Dame School", and part of the castle's grass field was used by the school as a playing field. - One thing I did not feature here was Carr Vale and the accompanying nature reserve, which lies to the South West of the town. - Hills Town was named after Rev. Hills, who was instrumental in the houses being built here, and the streets Nesbitt, Selwyn and Victoria were named after his children. Langwith Road used to be called Gander Lane. Scarcliffe parish ends on the white line in the centre of Langwith Road in Hills Town, as across the street they don't pay the additional parish tax!
Awesome. lived here over 40 years but still learned stuff from your video, I assume you were too scared to venture into Carr Vale :D Was looking forward to seeing Shuttlewood but you barely featured it, like you say though lots to cram in, and there's so much history within Bolsover town centre, you could have probably gone on for a further half hour, there's a lovely old mill on Mill Lane/Limekiln Fields for instance. The Pillar of Rock used to be called the Sportsdrome in the 80s before it became a gym, then Wetherspoons took it over (not sure if that's what you meant in the video). You picked the perfect day too regarding that view!
Went for a walk round today. Tried following the Town Trail but did get lost at one stage :) Sure I visited the castle many moons ago but think this was the 1st time in the town.
Well, us Shirebrook folk know Whaley as War-ley! When Bolsover tunnel closed due to it shrinking 70 years ago that was the end of the one-train railway service between Mansfield and Chesterfield.
A few little bits for HillsTown, we found out when moving to the area. HillsTown was named after Rev. Hills, who was instrumental in the houses being built here, and the streets Nesbitt, Selwyn and Victoria were named after his children. Also, Langwith Road used to be called Gander Lane. Apparantly.. Scarcliffe parish ends on the white line in the centre of Langwith Road in hillstown, as across the street they don't pay the additional parish tax! :') (Thanks to Paul who commented on this video who gave us loads of info on the Bolsover area History Facebook group)
Excellent video! Very well done. Very informative. Great editing and voice overs. I live here and I've learned alot from your video. Keep up the Great work! New Subscriber too. Well done!

Why did you cut Carr-vale out of the video and the lovely walks around there plus the nature reserve

@@TheVillageIdiot could have included it in a picture bit. Other than that from a local amazing job
@@nathanmarples1776 Roundup will sort it 😁
Picturesque in parts, similar to Hedon in a few ways.
Thought you were being stalked by that taxi driver btw, given he's in virtually every shot for the first few minutes.
HAHA I actually thought the same whilst filming. He seemed to go everywhere I did!
@@TheVillageIdiot it's my cousin 😁
At 5:36 you miss state the year Dennis Skinner lost to the Conservatives. First mention is correct 2019 second is not (2009!!)
Well spotted! Can't read my own writing!
