  • Thinking positively and keeping that attitude is difficult when you play a whole round of golf. Indeed, staying positive for a whole 4-hour round can be really hard for beginning golfers. What will likely happen instead is that you will go through episodes of doubt, of frustration and of general negativity when you play golf.
In this video, we talk about the concept of thinking in positives as far as the mental game of golf is concerned. And we tackle the concept of the pink elephant.
Simply put, the pink elephant image is used to show that it is impossible for your brain to not think of a pink elephant if you are asked to. The mere mention of the pink elephant is enough to think about it, no matter if you told your brain not to.
The same is true with hazards and penalty areas in golf. So for example, instead of thinking, ‘don’t go out of bounds’ when you are on the tee of a difficult hole, pick a target and think of hitting onto that target instead. The same advice goes for when you are facing a shot over water. Instead of thinking, ‘don’t go in the water’, tell yourself that the club you are holding is perfectly enough to send the ball onto the desired landing area. And the same is true for slices and so on.
Stop thinking about the “don’t’s” on the golf course and focus on the “do’s” instead.
