Wow. If you are looking for “technical” golf advice on UA-cam, I think this guy is one of the best. Possibly the best. Excellent explanation and demonstration!
You don’t need to watch any other video on pitching after this one. So clear and concise, really love your work Dan, and your book has been extremely helpful to my short game.
Dan, Not sure you will see this comment but I want to thank you. I've read your book and watched your videos and put in practice and your teaching has transformed my short game. I played my first full round of golf day before yesterday in over 15 years. Never in my life have I ever chipped pitched and gotten out of bunkers as well as I did during that round. The knowledge and confidence that comes from actually having a framework and plan to work within is astounding. So, I wanted to very sincerely thank you. Please keep up the good work. You are very much appreciated.
I am currently itching to try and practice Dan’s 3 releases, have the book, introduced to Dan via Gaz’s golf channel and also RIck Shiels doing same. Currently though our course and practice area so wet even the ducks are staying indoors! Roll on drier courses.
@@newsflash2691 @craigevison9070 This is what we refer to as sarcasm. Also known as a joke. Have you never bladed a wedge, and sent it miles past the green when you're 30 or 40 yards out? If not, you should set up your UA-cam training channel and let me know where to sign up! 👍🏼
Since reading Dan’s book and watching his videos, my practice regime has switched from 80% long game/20% short game to the exact opposite and my scores have never been lower! Broke 80 for the first time ever last New Year’s Eve and did it again a week later! Proof of the pudding!
Good to hear, my issue is taking the range game to the course. I remember years ago playing a matchplay game against an older guy who had been down to 6-8. He was in his 60’s I was mid 20’s. Down the middle not long but from 100 yard or less his game was superb, giving himself a putt every hole. I was all over the shop and he hammered me out of sight. Congratulations, certainly at amateur level you see the lower handicap players are the ones who get it closer more often from under 100 yards. I’m 27 HC and I can be same position as these guys but I take 3-4 to get down and they are often 2-3.

Always struggled with pitching Dan and it has held me back. Not a lack of practice or lessons, just different messages. Have now followed this instructional video and I feel confidence is growing and I no longer dread these shots. Thank you
Hi Dan, I also bought your book. I'm really glad your are creating these videos as well, helps to supplement and see what the book instructs. Very much appreciated!
Dan, you’re the best short game instructor on UA-cam! This is just what I needed. Last week I golfed, ⛳️ my pitching killed me. Ended up with ⛄️⛄️ on the card. Thanks from the Pacific Northwest 🌲🏔️ 🌦️ in the States 🇺🇸.
I could watch your videos for hours, Dan. I do not know another Teaching Pro who can teach that well and at the same time execute on such a superb level what he is teaching as you are capable of. Absolute superb. Love all of your videos.
I’m a scratch golfer. Played college golf and professionally for a while. My short game though had gone to crap (even though it was my strength during my playing days.) No joke… I watched maybe 3 of Dan’s videos and it’s like I’m 19 again around the greens. Absurd… I didn’t have the chipping / pitching yips. I was just doing it wrong! Thx a ton Dan!
Love how your teaching allows me to be more free in my movement. ive always been more of a feel pitcher but a lot of advice is about being rigid and almost stiff in your pitching. I feel your stuff is much more about feeeling free and not being afraid to use your hands a little. Pitching is a lot about setting up correctly! Thanks!
Hi Dan, I started watching your videos late last year, then bought the Book re and re-reading over the winter, it gives your so much more understanding of the videos Thx a million! I live in Austria so I am limited to practising with air balls from my patio onto the snow..:-), no run out.. cant wait for our Club to open in April/May to get out there with real balls and put all this to good use.
The single, most useful, golf video I have ever watched and there have been a few!! I loved the framework after reading the book but the video really brings it to life. Thank you.
Thank you Dan. I have been taking note and you have the best wedge education by far. I have applied wedge play and created a chart right up to 7 iron, which has helped enormously to get out of trouble situations. I have even used your release 1 & 2 also with 5, hybrid and 3 wood, in a couple if sticky in the rough situations with great results. I played a shot which was basically in a pine forrest release 1 with 3 wood off pine needles and was exactly the right shot, low and punchy ball flight out of deep trouble.
I watched this today, went to indoor golf centre, applied the three address position and was blown away by the accuracy. Thanks for sharing this Dan. It made an immediate, positive impact.
lol I just reread this section of your book to dial in my wedges and you’ve released a video about it! I love it. Thank you! The address system really does free your mind so you can focus on hitting it straight.
Took this to the range today and boy what a difference in my chipping/pitching, distance control and feet. People do say how the hell do I play of 4 with my wedge play, but I tended to do a lot of chip and run, which I am good at. But this has enhanced my confidence in wedge play and allowed me to concentrate on what you say. Thank you, excellent video.
I’m gonna buy the book now. And truly devote my time this season on my short game using your teachings. I’ve developed my game from +30 down to +18 in about a year. Used to have a lot of trouble getting on fairways. Now I hit them 80% of the time. And when I’m not on fairways I’m just off on the first cut. If I can dial in my game to hit a 5gal bucket from 100 yards out. I’d be golden.
Super instruction easily understandable. Would you consider posting some slow mo swings/finishes, I’m sure (hope) I speak for many when I say that would be really helpful and even more engaging. Thanks
Dan, I'm a fan whose part of your Academy, reading your book and learning all the time and it's very useful to see your longer videos as the give a deeper understanding of your book explanations. Thanks again.
I wouldn't think too many golfers would want to pitch with a modern 9 iron, the loft's nowadays are just too strong, even some PW's. Great instruction here, thanks!
"Smash Factor" is the Ratio of Ball Speed to Swing Speed. It is affected by Club Length and Loft AND Quality of Strike. A Driver swung at 100 mph that gives a Ball Speed of 150 mph is a 1.5 "Smash Factor" which is almost the Highest "S F" gets. Ball Speed divided by Swing Speed equals "Smash Factor".
Great stuff Dan. I really appreciatie the effort you put into your specialty. Short-game has entered another dimension for me and sometimes I am actually happy to see a missed green 😅
Just a brilliant coach, videos not too long and so well explained without being too technical. Just got the book and watched some of his videos regarding the Releases. They are so good,I'm getting more confident after each game
Really useful addition to the Pitching section of the book - and very timely for me as the reminder about the weight distribution and the pivot around the lead side. I'll be reminding myself of these tips on the range next week.
Great book "3 Release: The Short Game System". I really struggled with my chipping, I tried multiple chipping techniques and I found that using the 3 release technique to be more consistent. My chipping is much more reliable and the ball flight comes out more softly and better control. I am working on learning your pitching technique. I highly recommend his book.
I just started Playing golf about 18months ago started on a 36hc since watching your chipping, and pitching videos, also the bunker videos Ive dropped in 6 months from a 29 to 19 so thank you so much.
Amazing explanation on the different technics and the adjustments for the different distances. It will take a bit of time until it works out for me but the video will help to go back again and see how it should be done. Thank you very much again. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻😊🇩🇪
Love watching your videos; they are so educational and super helpful. The one item that I keep getting confused about is as I'm watching what releases 1, 2, and 3 are. Sometimes I need to rereview, so it would be nice to remind people occasionally what each one is! Thanks for the great coaching!
I read your book on holiday and found it interesting. The results, despite very little practice on grass yet, have been fantastic given I’m just adopting some of the basic concepts into my game so far. Yesterday’s round is a perfect example. I usually defaulted to a 60° for my green side shots, which I play a lot of. I’ve been forcing myself to keep this for “emergencies only” and it’s been eye opening. I was getting the release 1s so close that my putting reduced to 27 for the round. In all my short game SG was near 3 shots better than my handicap! Even using just your address positions really dialled me in for my pitching. I’m now really motivated to get in my garage to get my pitching numbers and get on the grass practice area asap to nail the releases! Thanks so much for introducing this system!
I really enjoyed that relatively simple, yet comprehensive breakdown of the Pitch. Made complete sense. Now, if I can manage to ease my grip, rotate around my left side, restrict my back swing to the prescribed length, and crisply strike my wedges as I smoothly turn through, only partially raising my right heel, at the same time controlling my release to contour the ball flight, I'll be at tap in range at the hole. No sweat...if I'm Seve Ballesteros back from the big sleep. Just kidding, Dan. Great instructive video.
Dan: I too enjoy your lessons. I've ALWAYS had trouble chipping, never been a consistent golfer, but now actually enjoy the challenge of chipping. Your words are easy to follow, making it pleasant to learn from you. I am 71 years old, my distance is gone, and yet the short game makes my outings 14:16 fun. Thank you so much! PS - I discovered you while watching Rick Shields, and then purchased your book.
Absolutely brilliant! Very comprehensive and yet easy to understand. Love how you deliver the information! Your videos and lessons has definitely made a significant difference to my game.
I've just started listening to Dan and I'm impressed with what I'm hearing and seeing. I do struggle with distance control on pitching and this is very simple and practical! I'm going to start practicing the A1, A2 and A3 Setup and see if I can control distance better!
Excellent explanation of the takeaway. I’ve seen videos from other Pro’s who take 10-15 mins to explain this simple move. The left shoulder blade going down and moving along the line of the feet finished it off nicely👏
This video really helps my understanding of your institution in the book. I mistakenly had the mental concept of a much more rigid left knee when executing this shot. I see here you allow the left knee to bend much more than I am or was. Thank you.
Been waiting for this video, it’s a great addition to the Approach section in the book. Be great to watch you coach a talented player on the approach technique so we can see you fix them.
Great content here Dan. Did a practice session today focusing on the technique you demonstrated . Was then really able to dial in my yardages. Thank you
Got it. The right club, proper feet position, proper weight distribution, shoulder starts the turn, take away on plane, turning to target, proper finish postion, and somehow it's still a giant crapshoot. Still, you're the best.
Fantastic video, thanks Dan. I am on my second read of the book ahead of this season really kicking in and I’ve been dialing in pitches on the sim lately. Love the simplicity of the system. Since reading your book last year, chipping and short game has gone from a weakness to one of my strengths and friends noticing. 👍🏻
Thanks Dan. I bought the download version of your book last fall and I finished the season a lot stronger because of it. This video is a great companion to the book, which I strongly recommend for all who view it. Can’t wait to continue with your methods this spring.
The best thing about Dan is the consistency with which he teaches... Nowadays you see so many content creators uploading videos non-stop where they say one thing one day, and the opposite the next 😮💨 keep it up Dan 🥳
Also liked it, but sure seems like what he's actually "doing" is a fair bit away from what he describes. In particular, the number of club head widths for ball position and the "same" backswing lengths. I'm sure he "feels" those things, though, and *all* of his concepts sure seem to work. . .
@@mntlblokI actually tried this today at my local range. Narrowing stance feeling like my arms an body were connected in the turn and swung to about 9pm clock face, felt like I couldn’t swing any further which Dan mentions. It worked a treat on 80-100 yards 👌
Thank you very much for the video. A great addition to the book. A request for upcoming videos. Slow motion and face-on perspectives of the golf swing would be great.
Great video 😊😊😊I have had many a lesson with PGA pros and was always told to rotate through and finish up on my trail foot - what your telling me is totally different- I think I believe you Dan and will try this technique- I hope your channel grows and grows it deserves too
Your videos are fascinating and makes so much sense ! I'm really (really) a bad short game player and I can't seem to work it out. I've tried everything and sometimes I feel I got it at practice.... then on the golf course I hit it fat and that's the end of it.... I'll keep watching your videos and practicing till I get it 🙂
The technique has really help my greenside game and confidence. For this pitching video, I wish I could follow the ball with a ball tracker to really see the flight with the different set ups.
Amazing, I love the 1 ,2 and 3 system combined with stance width, I guess I've been under a Rock for a bit, I'm just trying to catch up on your content in the last 3 days, wow, information overload, but I completely understand you're thinking, watching idk 10 to 15 of your videos so far, in my eyes it's much more of a thinking shot, finesse, grip pressure, release pionts, and ive made my pitch and chiping work for years in my own way,, i could be way off base with that theory, but I'm hooked.Thank you Dan, I'd love to interview you, and see why the short game grabbed your passion. I can definitely see you're an Athlete, i kinda got away from golf content because Golf has turned into let's see who can drive onto the green from the tee box lately, I can't take , where has the game of golf gone, please bring it back lol lol. Thank you for breaking the short game down Dan, really impressive, and to be honest I'm no scratch golfer but the short game is by far my passion, i must have 30 different wedges in 1 golf bag, every combo you could imagine, I think I'm going to hole in every green side bunker, I'd much rather chip and hopefully 1 putt then 3 putt because it's not grabbing my attention, I get bored with putting and the 2 or 3 shots before I grab my wedge lol. sorry TMI, just inspired. Ty.
@Dan it would be good to see shot tracers on pitches to get an idea of the loft we would expect to see. Hard to see the ball sometimes. Love your content!
I have recently adopted the A# system for my pitching, but found the difference between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 too small and it was confusing me, so I’m just using A1 and A3 with all my wedges to create a wedge distance matrix. Thanks for the video!

So glad to see you posting things on UA-cam! Been a long time instagram follower and big fan of the book, I refer back to it often.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. It has made the short game a little easier. ❤
Love the distance control being determined at set up. Restricting the turn in set up, I’ll look into this next time at the range 👌😎
Curriculum teaching does matter. However, we must take the time and practice to improve ourselves.
Fantastic comprehensive pitching video to supplement that part of your book Dan. Many thanks! 👍🏻
Thank you very much for the video. A great addition to the book. A request for upcoming videos. Slow motion and face-on perspectives of the golf swing would be great.
UA-cam allows you to adjust "Playback Speed" so this Video can be "Slow Motioned".
What a great presentation. This will be super helpful to any level of player.
Such a good, simple, effective piece of instruction...thanks for sharing Dan!
Unique approach to distance control. Great help. Thanks
Been waiting on this video as the DG chipping method has been a game changer for me.
Thats an awesome lesson Dan. Thank you very much pitching has killed me last two rounds
I'll keep watching your videos and practicing till I get it 🙂
Thank you Dan. I bought your book and was a little confused about the pitching portion. This helps a lot.
Almost done reading Daniel’s book, and let me tell you, it’s changed my game and melted strokes away. Would love a chance at lessons from him one day!
What’s name of the book🙌🏻

Superb video, so helpful. Your book is a bit of life savour for me 😅 The videos are a fantastic addition. Many thanks
Great video with some super funny comments. Dan, you certainly help a lot of us little people.
Ty.
This is awesome, huge expansion on the already good chapter from your book.
Great information/illustration, added to your book. Thank you!
Bought the book but it’s great to see this video. Gonna get out this evening and try it. Love to know how to pitch shorter distances
Superb as ever Dan, something to concentrate on in the coming months.
@Dan it would be good to see shot tracers on pitches to get an idea of the loft we would expect to see. Hard to see the ball sometimes. Love your content!
Wow. The distance control a1 to a3 is a good concept 👌 gonna give this a try
Brilliant, best video out there and just the best tips to try 👍⛳
Been waiting for this video for so long! Thank you
Changed my game mate, got your book on kindle for about a 10r and it's worth more than all the expensive wedges you can buy
another excellent video from the short game master
I have recently adopted the A# system for my pitching, but found the difference between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 too small and it was confusing me, so I’m just using A1 and A3 with all my wedges to create a wedge distance matrix. Thanks for the video!
Think my fav vid so far ever thankyou
Solid, dependable instruction
Love the instruction from your channel!!
