  • Magome-juku in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, is the 43rd post-town from Edo, located along the legendary and ancient highway called Nakasendo.
A post-town is where samurai, feudal lords, messengers, and other travelers stayed and rested at some point in their journey along the Nakasendo some 400 years ago.
Today, this beautiful village on a steep slope still looks pretty much like how it looked back in the days but only with so much history and value.
    Tips:
    ✅ Book in advance
✅ The inns here offer amazing traditional Japanese meals, especially for dinner - book yourself one if you can
✅ Stock on snacks if you're the type who always gets hungry at night because stores close as early as 5 / 6PM
✅ Avoid bringing a luggage or stroller if you're coming here via bus. It's quite hard to drag a luggage all the way up
✅ If you're bringing a car, there's a road that runs parallel to the slope which you can use to your designated parking slot (if any/applicable)
✅ Bring enough cash with you
