We went to Connecticut, which is 2.5 hours from our home to go to the Dutch store "The Dutch Epicure Shop" in Litchfield. Was it crazy? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes.
Yeah, I'm upset about that as well. I fell in love with those in Europe. Last time I was in the Netherlands I think I spent like 20 Euros on that alone.
After hearing about the Paprika Chips I now need a video titled “(Dutch) foods you never thought would not be available in the US”, I feel like there would be a lot of foods that we see as normal (but not as typically dutch like licorice) that I’d never had guessed weren’t available there, and I feel like David needs to taste test them all

I love that they have a shop like that in what seems the "middle of nowhere". I would definitely buy stuff there as a Dutch guy if I would pass it. But:..... driving that long and not getting stroopwafels, vlokken and hagelslag is soooo wrong!! 😉

Have you ever heard of Holland in Michigan? Could be a nice video, there are people there who still speak Dutch after a couple generations. Funny thing is, they speak dated Dutch with an English accent, to be expected of course.. But! their English is spoken with the typical Dutch accent lol.
btw its unironically more likely they are mostly from zeeland and even though thats the netherlands hollanders and zeelanders have quite some issues understanding eachother clearly

@@Haringstylez interesting fact, however that would still mean they arn't hollanders and I think we would have to do a bit of trying to properly understand the Gelres and Drenths (im sorry i don't know if overijsel has a specific historical volksname, provinces got rearranged) I mention it more because people often don't quite realize that the federal structure of the US is in part based on our union of the republic (that we lost, due to political murder, how fitting) , so even though the scale is smaller there is a similar thing in dialect difference between a grunninger and a zeeuw as there may be to the same extend between say a new yorker and someone from alabama etc, and specifically related to the use of dutch in the US there's some interesting changes, choices and influences.

When I lived in the middle East the thing I missed the most was Dutch bread. I went to an expat store and payed a ridiculous amount of money for a whole grain loaf. Tasted not exactly like Dutch bread, but after weeks of the local unsalted flat bread it was heaven.

Hij heeft vorig jaar zijn baan en huis opgezegd, zijn spullen opgeslagen en was naar eerst voor een jaar naar Nieuw Zeeland vertrokken. Hij zit nu dus voor een jaar in Australië. Dan weer werkt hij voor een paar maanden in een restaurant, trekt weer verder en helpt dan weer op een boerderij of wijngaard. Slapen doet hij in hostels. Heel veel jongeren van over de hele wereld doen hetzelfde. Hij heeft de tijd van zijn leven. Hij maakt overal vrienden en de mensen in de hostels trekken allemaal met elkaar op. Hij heeft zijn verjaardag een paar weken geleden op het strand gevierd met een bbq. Zag er super gezellig uit. Jongelui van over de hele wereld zaten bij een kampvuur op het strand. Als ik nog jong was had ik dit ook heel graag willen doen. Er is een organisatie waar je je bij aan kan sluiten en die voor banen, overnachting en goedkoop openbaar vervoer zorgt.

My family in Canada (Im in the Netherlands) has a Dutch store about half an hour away. They love all the food. When I visited I told them how expensive everything was back home and they could not believe how affordable it all is. There it's twice the price at least (off course with importing). So fun to see you two :-) PS. I would say the two and half hours is totally worth it!!

I had been touring in the U.S. in 2011-2012 and our tour bus passed a little Dutch grocery in like, Minnesota or somewhere out there. Our hotel ended up within a mile so I HAD to go over there and see what they had. They DID have my Chokotoffs, hooray! ...and I got a few more goodies. The teenager working there was dressed up in a farmer girl outfit but didn't speak Dutch, LOL! You're FROM The Netherlands? I just got back to NL after working in Montenegro this year. Hooray! More Chokotoffs as soon as I let my self off self quarantine. When I worked in Kazakhstan, they had a version of paprika chips but also, they had shrimp flavour as well as crab flavour!! Those were pretty good!!

It's not strong traditional licorice, but it has salmiak salt (ammonium chloride) which is a variety that tastes strong but is also quite different from traditional licorice.

Hele leuke video. Echt gelachen. Me vriendin komt van Indianapolis dus een hoop is herkenbaar. Vooral met de taal. Ze hebben daar ketjap Manis van Kaki Tiga......wel de beste. That shop is more Dutch than the shops in the Netherlands itself. I even want to visit it and I live in the Netherlands. Enjoy the food!
