      i'd always go for the stamppot. I've also seen pea soup mentioned below, love that too (with bacon or worst and black pepper). And just mentioning this from personal experience. Based on media and tv shows i got the idea that there's no refined dutch cuisine but that's so wrong. went on a tasting weekend in a dutch restaurant/hotel twice and was pleasantly surprised by what the chef had prepared, still trying to incorporated local produce.

    Your "food 5" was actually a mixed meal. It's boerenkool (the Green left part) while the (right Orange part) is called : Hutspot because there is carrot in it. The boerenkool is being served with the sausage while the hutspot was being served with the meatball. Normally we Dutch eat the two dishes separately. For anyone who didn't know😉

    Currently, my favourite is pea soup, or erwtensoep as we call it. We're just heading into autumn with the weather getting colder and lots of rain and there are few things better than eating a hot bowl of savoury soup with pieces of rookworst in it - and other meats for deluxe culinary versions.
    A good erwtensoep has to be so thick that a spoon can stand up in it.

      Sounds similar to the peasoup we have in Sweden, ours is yellow peasoup and usually has some pork belly in it as well for extra flavor and even more protein. I've never made it from scratch at home but do buy ready-made peasoup from time to time, such a simple dish but oh so good! Funnily enough, similar name as well, it's Ärtsoppa in Swedish Ärt being shorter version of Ärtor which is peas. It's so funny how similar Swedish and Dutch is at times (my boyfriend aka soulmate is Dutch, and I'm Swedish)

    Nice video, well done. Can I please elaborate on 'Stamppot" every vegetable with mashed potato can be considered stamppot even with raw veggies like "stamppot raw andives. But theres one exception to that and that is "hutspot". Originates from Leiden its cooked carrots with equal ammount of onions mixed with mashed potatoes. It goes back to 1574 when the Spanish troops pulled out of the city of Leiden. Stamped refering to mashing and Huts referring to hutselen, roughly translated to hustle ^^ So if you hustle grated and cooked carrots and onions with mashed potatoes hey presto, and voila, we got "Hutspot";-) This is pronounced like the Swedish pronounce "wifi-hot-spot" I kid you not.

I don't agree with how herring is presented to you, as I only know it without unions, or with unions. I was once at a first price winner herring contest firm and they would not even sell it with unions. They told me unions was from the past, when cooling wasn't perfect and they used the onions to keep away insects. However I like them best myself with unions. • @TullElSultan
    @TullElSultan 8 місяців тому +3

    My suggestions:
    You should try a Saucijenbroodje from a HEMA or La Place or a good bakery if they have those. Minced meat in puff pastry.
    Bossche bol when you are in Den Bosch (in a sense a big profiterole).
    Vlaai when in the province of Limburg (sweet pies with various fillings)
    Gevulde koek (best from a bakery. Flat soft cookie with minced almonds in a sort speculaas spiced dough)
    And I saw your video with Indonesian snacks such as klepon and Kue Mankok: those should NOT have been frozen. Makes them extremely tough and IMHO inedible. You need both as fresh as possible; when in Amsterdam go to Toko Makassar. Get them there and eat them the same day.
    Also extremely good there: risolles and aardappel kroket. Sweet, savory and crunchy.
    (I’m limiting myself with suggestion from Makkassar, I was practically a neighbor growing up AND have Indonesian roots, so I’m biased 😁)

      And try Brabantse worstenbroodjes. For example, directly from the oven of the bakery brabantse-worstenbroodjesdotnl at the back of Den Bosch station. Zuurvlees from Limburg. Broodje rookworst from Hema

    Broodje kip corn met uitjes is a tasty little on the move snack. If you`re a bit hungrier I would recommend loempia met pindasauce. Pick your snack bars carefully, there are good ones and shit ones. Basically, if it smells like old burnt cooking oil, give it a miss.

    Liked herring as a kid (rolmops, pickled from a jar), as an adult I'm finding the look of a silvery herring absolutely disgusting :p I would recommend tourists to try Indonesian food, especially meals with daging smoor (stewed beef) and ayam tao tjo (chicken in black bean sauce). I have American Facebook friends who were over here and tried Indonesian and then stopped trying out other foods because they liked the Indonesian food so much!

    Omg I didn't know you guys have the kapsalon in Germany too. Is it like widely available or? Can't wait to try a German one. As I think the dönner meat is way better in Germany and I'm not a fan of the massive amounts of cheese they tend to load it with here.

    • @apveening
      @apveening 8 місяців тому

      The kapsalon has gone international, there is (or used to be) at least one place in Nepal that serves it, South Korea has its own variation now with sweet potato and kimchee, I've seen it in Belgium in a company canteen, so there have to be multiple places in Germany serving it.
