Berseria takes place in the Holy Midgand Empire, a powerful country that rules over this world's archipelago of a continent. The game's world is shared with Tales of Zestiria, although the events occurred 1000 years before the latter. There are countless numbers of islands around, and Midgand's rule crosses even the seas. Areas of land and islands in the game are divided into "territories."Along with humans, one of the other main races is the Malakhim (singular: Malak), supernatural spirits whose wills are sealed and used by humans as slaves to utilize their magical abilities after being made visible to even normal humans due to the Advent, an incident 3 years prior to Velvet's escape from her prison. Throughout the empire, a disease known as Daemonblight causes those infected to lose their humanity and sense of rationality and transform into monsters known as Daemons, who pose a threat to the world. Along with the rulers of the Holy Midgand Empire exists a theocratic order known as the Abbey, who are of great political and religious importance and are influential in imperial affairs. The Exorcists, soldiers from the Abbey, are tasked with bringing peace and order by purging the world of Daemons and are willing to go to extremes to reach their goal.

I keep coming back to looking around for Berseria cutscenes on UA-cam after watching Arise gameplay. It just feels different.
I swear I could never recover from this game. The characters, their dynamics, there isn't a single one of them that I dislike. The skits are everything. Easily my most favorite of all time.
Funny how we gotta 'recover' from our favorite ARPG bc others just don't hit the same vibes xD

Bought Tales of Arise which got me into the series and wanted to try some others from this series and started with this. After finishing Berseria I absolutely love it. Combat is a bit dated but the characters and story hit so much harder than Arise imo. Arise wasn't bad but this game just was so stellar in that area.
One of the best Tales of games and really the adventure. Great step forward, esp comparing to Zestiria.
The greatest part for me is characters, their development and relationships. Velvet and Elen are one hell of the duo. Start as the enemies, to some sort of partnership, to a comrade and some sort of friends. In the end they can talk normally to each other, open their souls and ask for advice or to do job. For me Elen is the good way of showing, what can be of Alisha in Zestiria. Not some side char for 20% of the game, but full development from naive and too-forward to somebody, who see the real world and make decisions for herself, accept that their is the darkness, and choose her own way...
Magilu also really funny and has a can give you a remark almost on anything... I want to see her with Jade from Abyss... This duo can shake the world.
Need to replay the game once again before Arise would come in September.
Zesteria is no question the inferior game and story, however having played Zesteria then Berseria, Berseria really ties Zesteria together with certain things like Maotelus (don't check that name if you don't want massive spoilers)
It's like watching the Star Wars original trilogy vs prequel trilogy: yes you can watch them individually and get a full story, but together they complement one another.
Berseria characters and story are just amazing, it definitely deserved a well made Anime
I enjoy Zestria and I get that they wanted to 'try something new' but what shows that they've got a lot going for them is that they saw what went wrong with Zestria and went "New is still a good thing, we just went too far, let's instead shrink down a bit and cut off this excess to make this awesome thing."

God this game is amazing, Tales of Berseria is my second favorite game of all time, and it's been 3 years since I played it Bamco needs to add a third game in velvets universe, making it a trilogy, but for now we wait for Tales of Arise which I am pretty much hype for! and what better way to past the time than to play this masterpiece again.
What a beautiful tribute to watch after finishing the game.
Mann Velvet Crowe design definitely one of the best female character ever made.

Seriously the third best title of the franchise following the Symphonia Series and Vesperia. Though i will admit my local gaming club think Laphicet, being the adorable little brother we all want to adopt, is the biggest reason why it takes #3

You know what would really hit the spot for Tales? A fighting game made in collaboration with Arc System Works. Tons of stylized moves, fanservice aplenty, and a badass soundtrack.
Velvet would obviously be playable, and you could pit her against Sorey, Yuri, Leon, etc. I can already imagine her going "Hmph, some Shepherd" when she wins against Sorey.
Imagine the story mode having every tales of mc working together against maybe all the main villains from their respective games or a new villain that would be PEAK

Jude (Grappler, because I don't know who else can have grabs): "Gaius. I'll show you my resolve!"
Gaius (Counter, because Hakumen): "Good. Hold nothing back!"

Man this game was so good and so tragic. Velvet deserved so much better 😢 absolutely my favorite female protagonist out of any game, and best protag out of whole tales series imo

I'll be honest. I got the virtual disc where this song is from. Kaze no uta was a masterpiece, specially the PV fitting every bit of the song, and at first this song wasn't so impresive.
Over time it grew on me. Berseria is better than Zestiria, that's no secret. Now, out of these two songs, I watch in youtube Kaze no uta from time to time, but I'm always searching for Burn in my phone and my pc.
Nonetheless, FLOW makes greats songs

If you finished the game before Zestiria, the ending will feel good with Velvet's sacrifice seemingly solving all the problems. But once you finished Zestiria, it would feel different because you know that Velvet and Laphi's sacrifice will turn to shit come the next milennia.
It won't feel purely good anymore, but it's still bittersweet. It's bitter because you know someone will screw up down the line, but also sweet because if it happened any other way, there wouldn't even BE anything down the line. Really conveys the message that even the darkest night can BE hope. Not the dawn after, but the night itself is hope.

ベルセリア良作だったけど、発売した翌月には注目の的だったP5控えてたし、前作のゼスティリアの評判が最悪だったしで二重苦を背負わなければもっと評価されてたと思うんだよな(´・ω・`)

There are two episode of this game being an anime in Tales of Zestiria show. Sadly I do not think the show is that good but man the animation is respectable. They also changed certain outcomes

My personal favorite tales
I’m currently 213 hours into my first play through (yas..I’m doing everything first time around +28k grade wahaha..no life) but I’m loving the fights/battle system to hell and back. Velvet will probably end up being my favorite tales character (who finally dethrones Stan from ps1 ToDestiny) And then there’s that ultra-milfy teacher/scholar whose the same species as Beinfu-what’s his name…god that voice. K..gonna shut up now.

Heard a lot for mixed reviews on the game. I always hear the character development is great story is good but the game play isn’t that good. I haven’t played it yet. I honestly feel like this would make a good show. If that’s the case.
Gameplay in Berseria is about as good as other Tales games IMO. I’ve played Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Xillia 1 and 2, Zestiria, and Berseria. Berseria is easily in my top 3.
The problem is, this game have less content how very spells are copy paste of zestiria and that is the problem.
the spells and battlestyle is sort of copied, but the battle system is by far the most balanced i've seen in most RPGS. the high difficulty is actually a high difficulty, and most people complaining about less content etc, clearly haven't played any side missions. this game has about twice the amount of content and sidestories than Zestiria, better difficulty spiking, and way better combat/boss mechanics. imo it's by far 1 of the best games i've played in this genre.
@@maverickderksen710 Yeah, the game is a bit different from most modern RPGs in that it doesn't have a menu laying out all the side-quests available at any given time. You have to find stuff all by yourself by just exploring a lot... Very much like old RPGs back from the 80's and 90's...
So with that in mind, just make sure to always go through the off-beaten paths whenever you have the chance and you'll find hidden stuff.
