In an interview Jimmy said that this version was recorded for Old World Underground Where Are You Now but they let it out. Emily said that she wrote the piano version when she was 18.
Emily's lyrics are incredibly deep. "i shut up and carry on - scream becomes a yawn", "two-faced dentists", "cops that care", etc. She makes poetry. The words are not filler for some kind of basic-bitch melody. i love it.
For those of you wondering where the hell this is from, I believe it was originally included in an earlier demo version of Old World Underground before Emily pulled it (years before she released her solo version). It's the same place that the Kylie Kills Mix of Dead Disco is from, as well as a few other slightly tweaked tracks. And thank you so much for uploading this! I absolutely it, and your channel which has introduced me to a couple other rare tracks.
This song is really a treat! As much as I love the Soft Skeleton original, slapping on "Metric" and changing it up to sound like something they'd produce sounds soooo good..
they probably just decided to do this for fun. Just to see if they got a better vibe from this version. They've done that a lot if you watch "The Raw Side of Metric" its on youtube, they were done Fantasies awhile ago but Emily and Jimmy were so unhappy with it that they decided to just go out in some secluded studio and play around with it (hence the à la campfire EP from their testing of the new songs). It's also one of the reasons Emily took the trip to Buenos Ares, where she could discover.
Oh my god yes! Not sure if I like it quite as much as Fantasies yet, but it's still amazing.. Thought I was going to go see them play it tonight, but apparently that's not happening... :'(
@TheSkyAboveAblaze they do have an album it's called Fantasies and well worth a listen. Never heard of them but heard the album playing and three four songs in a realised i was staying in the shop to listen to the music so i bought it. It's alwasy on in the car very good album
@myeyeswillburn I have no recollection of where i got this from. to me this was the only version i loved it and it was not on youtube, therefore i loaded it :)
@BigMouthBakaNeko well on a serious note... yes. i have seen a documentary on this and in the US it is shocking how many kids especially are prescribed drugs for A.D.D etc. in the UK it is not like this at all! i assume this is what the song is really about.
This song is so great! Words cannot even describe how much I love it. How can I download this song though? I found the Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton version on iTunes, which is also great, but I can't seem to find this one. Help? :)
@BigMouthBakaNeko that is a good point, but as a Dr he only has to prescribe them, not hand them out :) although maybe he became blind in a pill colour catastrophy!
@BigMouthBakaNeko Nice point of view. I looked at it a lilttle differently though. Less of a critique of the healthcare system and more on consumer capitalism. Can't stop shopping, I can't stop...we're told buying things make us happier but they don't. You go miserable to the doctors & they give you anti-depression pills (blind of how our lifestyles are an empty shell You leave, watch a commercial, shop more. If the dizzying highs don't subside...well try a blue pill then

Sometimes this will happen. A metric song I’ve never heard before will just find me. Beautiful. Legendary. Makes my day.
same!!
Same!
How have I not heard this version yet??!
Nice profile picture and yeah I haven't heard it either ?? Why ? Lol
I like this version better. It has this Goldfrapp feel to it. Metric is very amazing.
this band makes me have hope for humanity again

I think it’s “cops that kill” not care
@@SyncFiresteels and toothless dentists :P

The song is great, but I really prefer the slower version, which is beautiful and creepy!
piano version still gives me nightmares bro
I agree
this sounds like it belongs on the Grow up and Blow away album

Glad you're enjoying it, the new album is pretty good too huh :)
Wow, this is a refreshingly different take. Thanks!

This song is really a treat! As much as I love the Soft Skeleton original, slapping on "Metric" and changing it up to sound like something they'd produce sounds soooo good..
This is actually the original!
Both versions are so Emily

@BigMouthBakaNeko that's the point, "toothless dentist", "cops that kill", and a blind doctor who's supposed to give blue and red pills...
I never realised Metric did this too! Thought it was just Emily :D
@myeyeswillburn I have no recollection of where i got this from. to me this was the only version

This totally doesn't sound like the average Emily Haines Song (to me at least), but I'm totally in love with it! It sounds sexy but it's sooo clever!
I think Dr.blind and Morpheus need to have a talk....

Swings!
Smooth as fuck

@mewkitty4897 it was originally a Metric demo
@Kirthey yay!

metric is coming to mexico im about to fall (desmayado)
Where did they get this version. I like them both but I'm fairly sure this is the one of this version
artistmjv they got it from ur butt
@thebrowniesaur22 lol, its metric. dont you hear the obvious bass from josh? and not to mention jerry singing
No; I believe that it has been around for a few years, but never released. It's brilliant, though.
@sushimonkeyapple no Google Soft Skeleton it has the original Dr blind, this version is obvs by metric though. (i prefer the original though)
@RussinoProductions Me too! ;D
Someone should really tell me where I can download this.
who is this by? it sounds different than the soft skeleton one
I know the photographer that took that picture
you are welcome :)
@Thatmakessense356 looks like Dr Blind missed it twice!
what time is it?
Where can I buy this version? :o
I'm so fucking annoyed they took the video of this song down. I can't see it anywhere and can't download it.

its by "emily haines and the soft skeleton", metrics the other band she plays in, change the title.
It's not Metric, It's Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton.
this version she preformed with metric
