I saw one of your previous comments on here about waiting for the Dyna Storm to be rereleased. It was rereleased already in 2001. You’re right about the original not coming with the Pink Acto Power motor. The original manual actually suggested that motor for the build. When it was rereleased in 2001 a motor was included with it I believe. It was pink without a label and didn’t look like the Acto Power motor. Soon after Tamiya released a third pink motor that looked exactly like the Acto Power motor again without the label. The most important thing about this buggy was the multi disk clutch system which built off the Super Astute TTC system (gearbox). While this is probably Tamiya’s best 2wd performing buggy back then, it still had a hard time competing against LOSI and Team Associated’s RC10. From personal experience, it does handle better than its other 2wd counterparts. Trust me, you will enjoy this buggy. Have fun and I’m looking forward to seeing what you decide to do about the color of the body.
There was a guy who raced one of these at the old indoor track back in the early 90's and I don't know how he did it but he converted it into a stadium truck and he blasted the field! He was winning races by three and four laps every week and I remember him telling me that the reason he was so much better than everyone was because of the shocks and the balance of the chassis.
Great story, there is actually a stadium truck based on this chassis called the Dyna Blaster so maybe he used some of those parts... I have only driven the buggy version but it's very nice to drive and I can imagine back then there wasn't much that was better. I've always wanted a Dyna Blaster but they are very rare these days.
Just amazing Gavin!! I've been trying to find a decent one that's not over priced for years as well!! Congrats to you on getting one bud ☺️ Hopefully someday soon I'll be able to get one too
Great buy. The Dyna Storm is a great buggy and a joy to drive. Replace the front bulkhead and rear suspension mounts with 3D printed items, or Nimrod if you can find them if you plan on driving it. And you should drive it!
Doing what you did for example with this video is interesting and informative and just good to watch👍 I think the problem with full build videos is the vast majority of collectors know how a build goes so to watch one can be a bit tedious🤷♂️ on the dyna storm motor your right it didn't come with one but a lot of hobby shops at the time did deals which included the pink acto-power! the re-re (please correct me if I'm mistaken) did come with a pink motor but without the acto-power sticker on it!
Lucky you to find such a nice example. I really really want Tamiya to re release this buggy. No other just this one. Build / rebuild videos are really fun. 20% is nothing, we pay 25% here in Norway plus stupid high levels of handling fees
Beautiful, congratulations. The Dyna Storm is a SUPERB buggy in my opinion. I have one on it’s way from Japan (not cheap!). Can’t wait. I have a modified Trinity brushed motor for it :) Modern limitless Tekin ESC. I like your technical build videos personally.
By Tamiya yes I agree but would also like to add the Tamiya Buggy Champ, but I think Schumacher, Kyosho and Team Associated have made some nice looking buggies too.
Nice looking buggy from tamiya. Didn't quite have the race pedigree to compete with the rc10 or the cougar but definitely one of the better 2wd tamiya buggies
Hi love your channel great content just a quick question what are those little car's on the front of your work station near the plant pot and where did you get them? Subscribed and hit the bell icon much respect TAMIYA FOREVER !
one thing you could do is in between show progress on building a car with out doing the whole video on that particular car...I like stuff like tips..new Rc stuff on the market..and setups..also like hop -ups add ons..upgrades
I love the Dyna Storms Gavin, I don't have one currently, but i have a Dyna Blaster on the way. What tooth pinion gear do these 2wd's typically love? Especially on the Acto pink motor. Cheers for the fantastic content, I am learning a lot from you.
Never heard of it, I just went and checked out how much they are on eBay!!! Wow that's expensive! I think I'd rather buy the new Frog though and try and make it brushless. The Frog new is about £130 but of course it's not a full on racing buggy like the Dyna Storm is. You could also get the Top Force new for a lot les and that seems a decent racing buggy? I'd paint it black and blue?
Man you love tamyia products lol. I have always thought they were ugly except the lunchbox lol always wanted one but i got a jrx2 instead and taced that.
I like all the content you do. So it doesn't bother me what you post up. Love to see more driving but you guys are in lock down again so might not be doable. For a bit.
@@RCKickschannel Maybe they are re-reing it next year. If you have a Super Astute just re-released, they might think that there's no market or buying power available. Then again, they are bad at interweb thingies and can't see what people want, dunno. Super Astute prices are getting higher at the moment, so i might get one before it's too late. Top Force has it's second batch coming this year?
@@GTMatukka They have re-released the Dyna Storm twice already so I wouldn't expect another batch but it's Tamiya at the end of the day, a lot of what they do doesn't make sense!
Nice car! It's from late 92 so you need a good ESC from the early 90s to run that motor. Novak made top racing ESCs. The best model for 92 would be a 410. The Racer or Hammer Pro which are a bit newer (94ish) could also work. Someobody who knows his stuff could recommand you a model from Tekin or another make. Regarding your videos, I'm not too much into the building ones. I usually skid to the end. Sorry ;-(
I picked up another 2001 Avante on Friday. It came with great condition white wheels so I moved them onto my shelf queen 2001 and I put my painted white wheels on the runner (purple) 2001. The plan was to have a runner 2001 Avante but everyone thinks it's too rare now and I should get a 2013 Egress for that. I'm still thinking about it.
Nice video. The Dyna Storm is a great car, last of the Astute family, although it shares little hardware from those cars, containing the up to date tweaks of the time. The original car never came with a motor and had bronze bushings in the steering arms and one in the diff. The re-re had ball race bearings throughout. The re-re also contained a pink motor. Not the Acto Power pink modified and rebuildable motor available as a hop up option, but a sealed can stock pink motor that had bronze bushings instead of bearings and lacked the sticker. There was also a third pink motor that was never released to the general public or in any kit. More info can be found here tamiyabase.com/articles/52-things-to-know/218-the-dyna-storm Enjoy your buggy. I'd like to see your unboxing videos. Then make those videos with hundreds of still photos from overhead as you build a car, easier to edit and only one camera, just add music. And then I'd like a normal video of the cars running.
That would take hours longer to edit for a single video. It’s a nice idea but unfortunately completely impractical as I work full time as well as UA-cam.
The build videos are not my favorite. The constant cuts with fast motion and music get tiring fast. The numbers don't lie. Unboxing and talking about cars are the most interesting.
I as a Kyosho guy don't quite know about this. But I'm pretty sure it is the same deal as the Kyosho Triumph. It's the best thing that was possible in the early 90s with all the beloved vintage parts but the performance is not comparable to newer racing buggys.
@@philthyco1 Maybe I underestimate the potential of this car. But I think there are definitely more adult ways to solve this than to just comment blah blah blah.
