    Three years ago I had horrible pain from a facet joint cyst that was pressing on a nerve in my lower back. I had an aspiration of the cyst but it didn't work. Three months later I had different doctor do it and it worked. I continue to be pain free. However, the procedure was the worst pain I ever had experienced. I don't know why I couldn't have general anesthesia before having it. I think I broke every bone in the nurses hand that I was squeezing. 😰 Very good information you presented. Thank you. I did a lot of research before having the aspiration. My goal was to prevent surgery. So far it worked.

      @@pritpalsingh1960 I'm sorry. I'm not a doctor. I just know that I had a cyst and I had it aspirated. Ask a doctor if that is possible for you. It was done without general anesthesia. I wish you the best on your journey to find relief.

    I had a synovial cyst, started with transforaminal epidural & aspiration….each gave me about 2 weeks relief…I opted for surgery….laminectomy. Wish I had done it sooner because the cyst had adhered to dura. Also, a hematoma had formed in the cyst because of aspiration!

    This is a great video. I have a spinal cyst. It is causing me pain all the way to the end of my toes. I have had some nonsurgical intervention, but so far no real relief. It seems to be that over the course of about 6 months, it seems like I may have developed a type of neuropathy? Could you talk about this, please.
    Thank you.

      I have similar situation as well. I still have the pain and neuropathy going into both legs and stiffness of legs. Can barely walk with a cane. Chiropractor recommended getting the cyst removed but I am very worried about it. It is getting worse everyday. I want to get better but I keep thinking it will heal on its own. 😢

    Doctor, my 16 year old son is just now diagnosed with syrinx on his spinal cord. It's approximately 4 mm in size. I am worried. How may I please contact you? Thank you, please let me know

    • @PrincetonSpineJointCenter
      @PrincetonSpineJointCenter  Рік тому +4

      Hello, I am sorry to hear of your son’s diagnosis. A syrinx is different than the spinal cysts I describe in this video. He needs to talk first and foremost with a good neurosurgeon who deals with this diagnosis. There are lots of factors they will consider for your son including where in the spinal cord the syrinx is, if it’s growing, if there are symptoms, etc. But a neurosurgeon should be your first phone call to discuss. I wish your son and your whole family all the best.

      @@PrincetonSpineJointCenter Thank you so much for getting back to me. The note from the doctor says moderate sized central spinal cord syrinx extending from the level of mid body of C3 into the upper thoracic spine. I live in Seattle Washington. I have made an appointment with the Seattle children's neuroscience center with Dr. Browd Samuel. He's a neurosurgeon. Is there any doctor who can remove it that you would recommend?

      An MRI of the spine will let you know. There are three spine areas that you can check with an MRI: your lumbar spine, thoracic spine and cervical spine.

    Great video. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with a synovial cyst at L4-L5 level that was causing severe left leg pain. Surgery was scheduled for cyst removal and fusion. One week before surgery, the pain went away and surgery was canceled. Never have had any further symptoms. Is it likely that the cyst burst or was absorbed? Or something else that caused the almost immediate relief of pain?

    Are these synovial cysts the same as a Tarlov cyst? I have a feeling the answer is no. My TC is caused by a hole in one of the thecal sac layers that causes a bubble of CSF. It's at L4-L5-S1. I wish there were more research figuring out what causes a Tarlov and how to treat it without surgery.
