I just got my GC1725M and am working through the manual - but watching video tutorials too. I've learned a lot from you Nick as I researched this fine little tractor. I want to keep it in great shape so I want to do this servicing right. Thanks.
I didn't purchase my 1723e from PR Equipment. After about a year, the nut on the loader hydraulic control handle had one of the nuts fall off so the loader would not go up and down. When I took off the rubber boot on the joystick, I see that the second lock washer and nut was loose. The up/down was missing the nut and washer. I installed a lock nut on both of the up/down and dump/drop valve bolts.
Somebody help me out (LOL). Brand new tractor with a few hours on it. I had a hydraulic fluid leak under the bucket control. Tightened the nut, got it to stop, but looks like I lost a lot of fluid (operated for 5 hours straight one day before I saw it). The site glass showed empty on a level surface. Bought a gallon of OEM fluid and added it. Still empty glass. Started to add another gallon and got about 1/4 out when it started overflowing out of the tube and showed full all the way to the top where the cap goes on. Site glass is still empty. Any suggestions?
Thank for posting the video. Two questions. At 7:28 you said the front axle runs a thicker oil. My owner manual and the service manual I purchased both say that the front axle runs the same Permatran 821 as the rear. Are you using 821 in the front or something else? Also at 11:15, were you really able to grease the hydrostat pedal zerk? I had to back my zerk out a little bit to get grease to go in. It seemed like the fit was so tight that the inside tip of the zerk was pressed tight against the inner sleeve that the pedals pivot on. I'm thinking of shaving the inside tip of that zerk down just a bit so I don't have to loosen it every time I grease. Thoughts?
As far as the oil question I actually corrected that in the video description. It is the permatran. On the larger tractors it’s gear lube. As far as the zerk issue is concerned I have had an issue but I’ve only tried it on the one tractor. I’ll look at a couple more to see what’s up.
Oh man I watch on the Roku so I don't always read the description before I post. Guess I should have. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna file that zerk down this weekend to see if it helps. Should be a fun little project. These tractors are so cool and so versatile. The only thing that makes me mad is that I waited so long to get one. Anyone on the fence about buying one isn't thinking clearly, haha.
Own a 10 year old MF GC2400, Greese & Service it myself regularly normally 3 times yearly, just took it to dealer for good servicing and check hydraulic system since it has lost hydraulic power. The ball joints boots was torn off, dealer says it needs new ball joints and they are $600 just for the ball joints plus around $200 labor. Does this sound like the right cost or are they high balling the price ?
It’s hard to say. Most dealers charge a flat markup on every part so if it’s that expensive I would bet they’re probably pretty expensive from the manufacture. That’s definitely a dang expensive ball joint and I would look around. Labor doesn’t sound too crazy but if everything goes smooth, they should be able to do it quicker than that. If i get a chance in a bit, I’ll try to look up those parts and see if that’s in line.
Be careful there’s a reason they’re not filled all the way. When oil warms it expands and can blow out seals. The air is important in any gear box is important.
THANK YOU! Hubby usually takes care of it, but it's all on me now and I had NO IDEA what to do for maintenance!
Glad we can help. These machines will serve you for a long time you take care of them properly.

Sounds like you handled that well! Thanks for sharing the tip! Next maybe do buy from PR. 😁

Awesome video. 👌
So how often , or when do I need to use 4 wheel drive ? and should I use low or high speed ?

@@prequipmentsales My fitting is also too close to the frame. I have a needle for the grease gun tip, I just can't find it.
Any tips on seeing that sight glass with the backhoe attached? I’m guessing I’ll need to get an inspection mirror.
Personally I like to use my cell phone camera to take a picture of the level.

No problem. Here to help!
I like the oil full, because oil takes heat away!

@@prequipmentsales You're correct!!!
Forgot two grease zerts on the quick connect loader pins
My kioti front axle has a dipstick plug.
He didn't show exactly how to check the proper level but what he said is close enuf.
That sight glass needs to go and go back to a dipstick
I hear ya. However there’s a chunk of the population that would never check a dip stick but just maybe they’ll glance at the sight glass.
@prequipmentsales that sight glass is going to get broken eventually then you'll really be in a pickle
