- Egilsson is a poem from Egil's Saga. The poem is the most personal and moving poem we know from the old Nordic literature. After the death of his son Bødvar, Egil locked himself in a room and wanted to starve himself to meet his end. Especially tragic to Egil is that Bødvar died of an accident at sea and that his other son, Gunnar, died of illness. Therefore, they do not go as fallen warriors to Valhal, but to the dim darkness of Hel. Egil feels that his "legacy" is broken. He has become old and lonely.

The tale of Egilsonn is a story about the acceptance of death, and the fact that the best way to remember a loved one is not by the achievements they didn’t acomplish but by the space they occupied in our hearts and memories.
Only when Egil realizes this, he id ready to carry his son to the funeral and move on with his daughter
Something I try to teach everyone that I let into my close circle of thinking is this:
Remember those you care about, not in life or death, but rather remember them for their smile. The way the sun shines light upon their face or the way their voice sounds. Memorize their sounds and their touch. Because eventually those memories may be all that you have left.
And age means nothing. Death comes for all that lives, some go sooner than others, but we all must answer eventually, However.

*ljóðpundara = poem-scale (as in weighing scale, a bar with a fixed weight attached to one end, a movable pivot point and an attachment point for the object to be weighed at the other end, an analogy for the tongue 'lifting/weighing' the heavy words of the poem, this is only the first stanza of a longer poem)
*"odin's loot" = poetry; the verses of poems. To recover/steal odin's loot is to craft poems (kveða/yrkja).

@@tarasantistevan6725 Basically, it's a poem about a man who had lost his sons to death by sea and illness, thus they did not fall as warriors, denied access to Valhal(Valhalla). Instead they'd go to Hel (the underworld more or less). The man locked himself in a room to starve himself to death.
