You are absolutely right. I recently did one for a customer, and he wanted all the options, and I needed to source an SP for the build also. There was over $300 in parts alone, and I still cant get over them wanting you to use hot glue. They are very nice when done... but this is a premium kit, and they should have a solution to fit everything in a "Premium" way. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video! I’ve built a couple of their V2 versions and they are better. The back cover of the ips screen is different, so it seems they’ve done quality control on these:)
I haven't had a chance to build the V2 yet... but I have done the newer version of the standard GBA. They are very nice to play on. Thanks for watching.
I have a question. Why are the usb c wires connected to the pcb input terminals as opposed to the output terminals on the usb c board? Doesn’t this bypass the charge protection circuit built in the usb c board?
I want to buy the latest Boxy Pixel GBA SP Unhinged mod kit, but on their website, the IPS 3.0 screen is sold out. Where else can I buy the same screen that will work with the rest of the kit?
handheld legend has the screen in stock, and buying from them supports the channel. handheldlegend.com/?smile_ref=eyJzbWlsZV9zb3VyY2UiOiJzbWlsZV91aSIsInNtaWxlX21lZGl1bSI6IiIsInNtaWxlX2NhbXBhaWduIjoicmVmZXJyYWxfcHJvZ3JhbSIsInNtaWxlX2N1c3RvbWVyX2lkIjo1NTE0MjUyNDR9&smile_referral_code=2xVWTLmy&st_intent=st%3Areferrals%3Acustomer-offers%3A2xVWTLmy&
I always wanted to do this one and I noticed that boxy pixel has one for the dmg gameboy. Trying to figure out how to utilize the usb c port with a rechargeable battery. I’m figuring that there has to be soldering and removing the old battery tabs.
@@PghGameFix I’m trying to find someone that put one together without any luck. I’m figuring that after taking off the battery tabs that I’d solder both the battery and the usb c port to the removed tabbed areas, obviously ground wires to where the spring tab went and the the red wire to the other
@@PghGameFix 15:34 I can see the fuse, but I can't actually see the large bit of copper that you're using. I found their instructions for pin 2 a challenge.
@@mrlimey2419 OK.... the copper is just the trace on the board. It's covered in the green mask. I used a hobby knife to scrape some of the green away by the fuse, and soldered the power there. Once exposed... it was a nice open place to solder... opposed to trying to get on the pin of the charge port. If you have a steady hand, and are comfortable using the spot in the instructions... then feel free to use it. I just wanted to show somewhere else that could be used, that would be easier for the average hobbyist. (With a fat soldering tip)
@@PghGameFix that's appreciated, it looks like a safer spot, thanks for the video, it's great not only seeing others do this, but pros working out other methods. Thank you for taking time to reply too
About the battery, does the red light of GBA Motherboard turns off after charging? I've installed the Boxy Pixel's battery and the red light never goes off
9:24 Yeah! My thoughts exactly...hot glue?!
Mounting bracket or a screw post to fasten it down 🙈

Such a nice build! Good one!!
Thanks. It turned out nice.
where do you get this screen with the gameboy logo at the bottom?> I've been looking everywhere. Thanks.

We don't need the charge protection from the board, since the new battery has it built in.

Yes... most likely on the DMG... you will need to do some soldering.

@@thezedable You can send the parts to me. I've built several. use the email in my channel info to contact me.
How can send something to you to be fixed?
The + you soldered looked different to instructions, why did you go there?
Give me the time stamp point on the video, and I can comment better.

Yes... it will turn off after it's charged. BUT, it will take some time with the original charger.
@@PghGameFix Do you know how much time with the original charger, approximately?
@@marcopacifico3161 from dead... at least 5 hrs.
