An easy way to bypass the vinyl decal on the blade is to use rubber cement. Mask off the blade edge, and then paint on the rubber cement. When the glue dries, use your fingers to rub some of the glue back. This will give you a random pattern. After this, a basic flat black application from a rattle can will give you the same effect.
Might I suggest using a polycarbonate instead of acrylic? The blade will last longer not just from bumps, but acrylic ages and becomes more increasingly brittle.

A trick for running wire through a small space is to have a "guide dog" wire that you run through from the opposite end , then tape/tie the wires you need to run through the space to the guide dog and just pull then through. It's an old trick that electricians use to run wire bundles through conduit and should work like a charm for future builds for you.

i loved the build amazing job. with the plexiglass there is a much much cheaper option for any of budget viewers you score the plexiglass with a razor blade a few times and snap it it will break perfectly and wont give you a frayed edged like cutting it will. Its a little tedious and takes a little practice but $1 razor blade > the $400 you spent on those tools

Has anyone tried applying a stencil (tape, etc) of the pattern to a regular round lightsaber blade? I have a few round blades and for my costume (my daughter and I match every year!) I was thinking of just using black vinyl or something around the blade. Not sure if I should wrap the whole blade and just pattern it out, or do half of each side and leave an open seam down the top and bottom. Thoughts?

Hey, RamenNoodlesBudget. I've heard that while John Carpenter was filming "Halloween." (1978.) before they decided for Michael Myers to wear a Trick-or-Treat Studios William Shatner Captain Kirk mask, originally they were going to have a Star Trek Spock mask instead. So I was wondering if you could convert a Trick-or-Treat Studios Star Trek Spock mask into a "What If?" look of the mask for Michael Myers, you know with the bigger eye holes, the dark brown hair, and spray painted fish belly white like in Halloween for John Carpenter's original version of the O.G. horror icon slasher if you have any time?

instead of using lights, why put a heater inside the saber? then if you turn it on it will heat the edge of the saber in 900 degrees making it change it's colors, but of course if you use stronger materials like tantalum or hafnium it won't melt and can withstand 900 degrees.
