The American Mexican war when our military attacked Mexico, the Polish, German and Irish Catholics realized they were on the wrong side and the American /British military leaders were the dregs of the earth, so they fought with the Mexicans to protect them. After the war, they were hung as traitors. Just like the Neuremberg trials, the wrong people were hung. Best regards to our Mexican neighbors.
I've heard that after the war, he was sent to zoo. He was always sad, until one polish vet visited him, and spoke to him in polish. Wojtek recognized the language in a flash, and started to smile:). The vet was seeing Wojtek everyday, till his death...

I have a step sister in Poland whom I have never met. Although my father was posted to Edinburgh and was a medical student at the Paderewski Hospital and was not one of those who were caring for Wojtek, I remember him taking me when I was very small to see Wojtek at Edinburgh Zoo. I consider Wojtek as part of my Polish heritage.

hell yeah, my grandpa was a german/polish American who fought in ww2. when he was in the army, he actually teamed up with the Polish forces to fight off invaders. wojtek seems like part of my own family's history, very cool.
My father was in the gulag of Indigirka, Kolyma. General Anders did 2 years solitary in treblinka yet never quit nor joined the soviets, as they wanted. He was pivotal on the release of the lucky ones who were released. Many were forced to fight for Stalin and others made it home but we forced to fight for the Germans. Not one quisling from Poland. It’s an awfully bloody history and yet Poland never treated prisoners of war in anyway the Polish were ….. i can’t say it. God bless mother Poland and thank you Scotland

This bear was a true colleague and friend - that is, FOREVER, unlike the British government, which betrayed Poland and Polish soldiers who fought and gave their lives fighting on the side of the Allies. I will never forget it, especially giving east Poland to Soviet Union.
Poor Wojtek. He lived a life of freedom among men and likely considered them family. Then for now reason he could understand he is suddenly imprisoned in a very small space with no company, no activity, no special treats or even words of reassurance he understood. A sorry reward to his heroic actions.
If he were a bear with an American company, every child would know about Wojtek and there would be monuments everywhere in the USA that would honor him.

I'm American and I would love to see this become a movie as long as its COMPLETELY accurate. None of that Hollywood bullshit just the straight story and facts. I hate seeing history misrepresented; especially by movie maker assholes who think they can reinvent history. Bullshit! Love this story but tell it the right way or not at all.

This bear was a true colleague and friend - that is, FOREVER, unlike the British government, which betrayed Poland and Polish soldiers who fought and gave their lives fighting on the side of the Allies. I will never forget it, especially giving east Poland to Soviet Union.

Poor Wojtek. He lived a life of freedom among men and likely considered them family. Then for now reason he could understand he is suddenly imprisoned in a very small space with no company, no activity, no special treats or even words of reassurance he understood. A sorry reward to his heroic actions.
If he were a bear with an American company, every child would know about Wojtek and there would be monuments everywhere in the USA that would honor him.
