Absolutely adore this build mate. I'm only young, but wanting to buy land out in the bush and build my own fairly small house on it as I'm an apprentice, so I rlly appreciate the time and effort it took you to do this, let alone record it at the same time!!
Glad you enjoyed it. My theory is to build a bunch of small buildings like this on a property. Separate Kitchen, Sleeping Quarters, Living space etc. Simple functional constructions. We do not need 40 Squares to live in. A bedroom where your body heat warms the room is a pretty good option.
I love the way you handeled the task with a manual saw. I thought that without an electric saw you could not do the job, but you sir proved me wrong. Great job!
Thanks 👍. I did end up getting a drop saw for the treated external palings as they were so wet they were almost impossible to cut with a hand saw. It just stuck in the wood. I could have let them dry a bit but I was too impatient.

Yes, great work, curious to know what you do for a living, did't think tradie, because despite two pairs of well used boots, no tool belt, very few cans of beer and it took until almost the end of the video to see a site radio. I did notice a slab of water though lol. Great effort mate, especially all the extra work moving ladders and temp clamping because you were on your own.

Your daughter is a trooper for helping. Of all the people in my family, my daughter is the one that would be right beside me getting dirty. Best helper ever.
Absolutely. Saved me going up and down the ladder another 50 times. My legs definitely appreciated it. She is also much better at measuring things than I am. I measure once cut 3 times.

She helped me this weekend as well. Designed and built the ramp for our new chicken coop. Love having her out helping me. Also distracts the dogs so they go to her for pats and frees me up to get a bit more done. :)

It is similar to the design that I have been sketching since I was a kid, and now later in life would love to build something like this on some bush property with a lovely view. Love the style, music, choice of windows, little rust on the roof for character, trees for porch posts, floor and the gorgeous setting. Well done mate. I stopped in on my way to Antarctica each trip on Northwind and always had a marvelous time. Great folks, lovely attitudes, good to see it all here.
Wow this is beautiful. Reminds when I was helping my cousin with his work, he's a carpenter. But I quit after 3 months and went to college. Carpenters are gifted man.

Haha. Ironically, Woolloomooloo is actually just east of central Sydney, and is a dense urban area which, since gentrification of the area decades ago, will cost you a fair chunk of cash to live in. Probably most well known for the Finger Wharf - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Wharf - an enormous 100 year old timber wharf that was once one of the largest timber structures in the world, and is now converted to restaurants and luxury apartments. Russel Crowe had an apartment there, supposedly costing $14 million!

@@simonhahnel8092 Thinking about it, it was 40 years ago, not 30, and we used sapplings of the property instead of nice, squared timber. The roofing and weatherboards came from a wrecking yard. I haven't a clue whether or not it is still standing. It was a lot of fun building it. I see your dogs are assisting you in your works; I had a Blue dog at the time who did the same.. :-) I live in the Netherlands now, and have another Blue dog...

Simon I had a blue healer in the mid 90's . A friend wanted him so bad but after 2 months he gave him back to us, he couldn't keep him. He wouldn't stop gathering up his horses. Our friend owned a business where he keep ppls horses. Everytime he would get them out of their stalls to excercise, buster the dog would round them up lol. To him he was doing his job. It's in their DNA. We lived in Tennessee USA. He had never been on a farm around animals in his life

Have just watched the semi demolition of a USA house ready for renovation. Your country "shack" is better built with, to me, the right size timbers than the USA house was. Great job, you have restored my faith in building standards. Brought back memories of living in houses (NZ) while mum and dad built them around us.
Going by the video that took you 36.5 minutes, so when you've got some free time can you drop by and knock one up for me, and bring the dogs they were obviously a big help. But seriously, I really enjoyed watching you work, I can watch people work all day, and you deserved that VB. Well done.
Well I am nearly done with my builds here, so supply me with resources and VB and the sky is the limit. P.S. Total build was more like 60 minutes. I sped it up a bit. 😉

It is a good thing they are cute because they spent the whole time stealing my gloves and tools. My tape measure disappeared for about a week before one of them brought it back from where they had left it in the garden.

Thanks Marg. I sit on the deck most evenings looking over the pond I built next to it. The ducks, chickens, turtles and local wildlife keep me entertained. Better than most TV shows for sure.

Thanks Scott. It is great having a shelter next to the Vegetable patch. It now also collects water for the pond and 2200 ltr water tank which I use for the garden. I love sitting on the deck in the evenings watching the Turtles in the pond and listening to some good old Aussie tunes.
Glad you liked it! I wanted vertical cladding and the cost effective solution was cypress pine fence palings. Gives that nice rustic effect I was going for.
I just wanted to let you know that I used marine paint for metal for my metal roof. It held up well. Its something to think about if you paint your roof.
I am a house farmer by trade, l really enjoyed watching you build your house . The post and beam is elegant in its simplicity. I liked the clear corrugated roofing for a skylight. I would like to see it completed . Good day from Nevada, USA.

There was a string line and a spirit level to get the base frame up. After that it is tape measure all the way.

Thanks Scott. It is great having a shelter next to the Vegetable patch. It now also collects water for the pond and 2200 ltr water tank which I use for the garden. I love sitting on the deck in the evenings watching the Turtles in the pond and listening to some good old Aussie tunes.

Glad you liked it! I wanted vertical cladding and the cost effective solution was cypress pine fence palings. Gives that nice rustic effect I was going for.

I just wanted to let you know that I used marine paint for metal for my metal roof. It held up well. Its something to think about if you paint your roof.
I was after the rustic look. I do need to add an anti rust coating of something though.
I am a house farmer by trade, l really enjoyed watching you build your house . The post and beam is elegant in its simplicity. I liked the clear corrugated roofing for a skylight. I would like to see it completed . Good day from Nevada, USA.
