I love how relatabe these videos are big UA-camrs tend to just seem to know the issues instantly and how to fix it but you are here watching videos to learn like the rest of us, using things the avg person would have like only jackstands instead of a lift
I honestly cannot believe that you took this on in a car parking bay..... you are either remarkably and commendably positive in all things - or simply require professional help. 🤣
Haha, this is almost like watching me when I changed the clutch on my Audi Coupe, learning as i went. I even bought exactly the same transmission jack and engine support bar! The gearbox was stuck on too, but after several hours of struggle i managed to get it off by raising and lowering it on the jack with a lot of shaking it up and down. My back suffered for a few weeks afterwards as i did it on axle stands in December as well, but the end result after also rebuilding the gear shift linkages was supremely satisfying!
wise words at the ending "if a monkey like me can do it, then maybe you can be inspired to do it" LOVE IT. I will do it thanks :DD (great video editing, good quality and angles awesome and thanks!)
That’s the Map sensor, the pipe goes down to the intake pipe to the supercharger. Common to be broken but are difficult to find new, it’s easier to get some fuel hose (so it doesn’t collapse) and cut the plastic pipe and fit a small, piece between the pipe and the map sensor nose. Two Allen bolts hold it in the bracket
Subframe - clean of rust by a wire brush on a wheel, weld the hole, protect with zinc paint and underbody spray. No need to buy another one. Welding by tacking one spot weld near the other is how anyone can weld without a problem or experience.
This is true but by the time he buys the welder, wire, gas, helmet, gloves etc and then has to learn to use it, and find a place to store it all it’s turned in to a big outlay, what for a 99 quid subframe.
Wow! Epic effort. My r52 has some subframe corrosion too. No noticeable holes yet but thinking about changing it out soon so will be good to see how that goes for you.
Thanks, Frazer. I was really surprised by how cheap I managed to pick up a replacement subframe for. So far, it doesn’t look like the subframe is gonna cause me much grief - fingers crossed!
All little bit of corrosion wouldn’t cause the subframe to bend. The cheapest way is to weld it. It’s not cheap but easier than taking the subframe out.
My god, man! You really got balls deep into it, huh? Speaking about balls, taking a freaking engine out, in the english weather, in the parking spot of your house, takes balls heavier than that engine. Kudos to you, lad! The fact that you enjoyed it, was half the job, I think. 😊
Not watched to the end of the video yet, and I appreciate that this video is a year or so old, but spotted an issue with your rear bush mounts to the front control arm - they are the wrong ones! I only spotted this as I did these bushes on mine the other day and found the same issue. I think the cast metal bush carriers are from an R56 and not an R53!

A bit of both?? 😅😅
You deserve a medal as big as a bike wheel for your effort in everything you do. Love the channel very interesting with a great sense of humour.❤😀
He just truly loves and enjoys it… it’s not hard work if that’s that case 💪🏼
Now im on Amazon putting tools and equipment in my shopping cart, looking forward to diving into this same job 😂@NotEconomicallyViable
I admire your tenacity with this job especially working on your back on the drive in winter!
Thank you! Might have to reevaluate my commitment when the temperature drops below freezing haha

Throttle body bracket! It's mentioned in the Mod Mini video .... I'm at the point of taking subframe off before doing the gearbox so I can do a clutch
