  • How to drive a hybrid car for best fuel economy? Here are few tips from me, using Lexus GS450h as example. I was able to get 35mpg (6.7L/100km) with this car, and it for sure isn't the top of it's possibilities :)

    For in City driving...Accelerate then lift and gently feather the throttle. Under 35mph you can run on electric motor only if done right. Hwy cruising 70mph and below is far more economical than 80mph plus. This car likes to be accelerated then coast. I consider myself a gs450h expert.

    GS450h is very nice car with very good performance. This car can be driven with good fuel economy, but is worth saving fuel on car like that.

    Great video and for sharing your experience. I have a 2008 RX400H and I use more "school 1" method. I end up giving more power during acceleration, using petrol motor and once I gain speed I drive it on electric mode. I end up doing around 7.6 l/100km (+/-30mpg) which is quite good for the 3.3 v6 and 2tons of the RX. I also feel that I can keep up with the traffic and don't get other drivers nervous while I try to accelerate purely on electric. 😀

      Great fuel consumption! Didn't know it's possible to go that low in RX :D

      It can keep up with the fuel consuption of my Saab 9-5 2.0T except on highway, where Saab takes advange of It's aerodynamic. I usually use school 1 method but I will try the second to see how it goes. I'm actually searching for a GS450h s190 for my wife. Do you recomend it? Thanks

    Also do wheel alignment, and inflate your tires

      Its something wrong with air pressure sensor, tires themselves are okay - checked :) Wheel alignment I should do, indeed :D Thanks! :)

    I have a question about acceleration method. I agree with your second way: using less engine to start the car, the less the fuel consume. But is that mean we ignore the battery life? Since we use only electrical motor it will consume much electricity and we need to charge battery often. Will that cause the battery failure more quickly? I just got a used GS450h last week and only get 9KM/L for the fist 800KM. 20% in the city and 80% in the highway. The battery has been used for 5 years and 50000km.

    • @top10cars80
      @top10cars80  2 роки тому +1

      To be honest, I don't know exactly what impact it has. Most of batteries in GS450h lasts over 10 years anyway (mine has 10 years right now as well, and still keeps good parameters), and system in Lexus always balance the battery to be charged between 20-80% most of time, what's the best for battery's health. Lexus anyway charges and discharges battery all the time during drive, so I don't think it changes a lot :)
