In USA, mechanical engineer who are involved with design will need to be licensed as Professional Engineer (PE) with the State eventually. After Bachelor degree, the newbie will need to pass 8-hr of Fundamental of Engineering (FE) exam to become Engineer-in-Training (EIT). After working a few years, he will need to pass another 8-hr of PE exam to become Professional Engineer (PE). In Canada, engineering graduates from accredited Canadian universities are considered to be competent. After working a few years as EIT, the individual needs to write a 3-hr test on engineering law, ethics, and professional liability to become Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
