I'll never understand why people get hard ons about lowish mileages on old cars .... it means your just about to fork out for loads of stuff about to go wrong . It also means these cars are city drivers ,stop start, cold oil and down to the shops and back once a week,far worse than a higher mileage motorway cars. 140,000 is a far safer mileage than 90,000.

Gone downhill. Be very careful, I bought several cars with misgraded reports and some that required gearbox repairs and even a full engine replacement, despite the assured reports claiming they were perfect and had no faults. It's hit or miss, but I wouldn't recommend it as its too risky. You're probably better off going to Aston Barclay around the corner or just standard BCA
In the south west, we get stitched up on prices at the auctions. Same cars in the rest of the country go for soooooo much less. I watch bca all the time and think I’m gonna get a good price but as soon as it gets to Bristol or Bridgwater, the prices rocket, plus there is so little choice.
Comments like I wouldn’t do the advisers on the MOT by that other guy isn’t going to do the rep of car sales guys any favours I like the fact you always repair them no expense spared
Don’t dismiss Dave that easy, he has been in the trade a long time and his channel has some excellent content. Reality is with higher volume you need to be a lot more efficient with time.

Considering I brought my VW Tiguan for £12 thousand from a dealership some 5 years ago, I could have had some fun there!! That auction sold my dads old car when the owner after him sold it at auction the car was a 2012 Audi a4 se tecnic my dad has one a 2014 plate Manuel gearbox sline trim
Great content as usual from you James my daughter is having a nightmare at the moment she purchased a Focus ecoboom is July over heated with in 1 day of ownership garage had it 3 weeks and fair play spent a lot to fix it then 2 days later overheating again so she had a full refund great but the garage must of just parked it in a corner and fix it when they had time makes sense but the problem is they never put it back into trade and kept it in her name now the DVLA are chasing her for no insurance absolute nightmare having to prove dates and time scales still waiting on the courts now have you heard of this before thanks Nick
I've got one of thoss E12 Nissan Note's with a 1.5 Diesel. its never given me any bother, proper reliable. If it squeaks going over a speed bump, then spray some lube on the bushings, they all seem to do it as they go in dry from factory. Once sprayed the noise goes away.

its the opposite in ireland ,used cars and vans are gone completely off the scales with 4 and 5 year old vans making more than they where originally purchased for,I kid you not!
You mentioned the Euro car parts vans, have you seen the state of the Amazon vans on the road. Truly shocking condition, nearly every panel smashed on them.
Interesting to see the prices the cars were going for - remains to be seen if this will be the trend from now on. Think your i20 was the safest bet - assume there were auction fees on top but should be a decent profit - can you add the auction fee as part of the price paid for VAT purposes?

Have you seen the way they drive those vans? I was sitting in traffic with a mate as passenger I was telling him how they drive like idiots and the van swung out of the garage on the left across both lanes of the dual carriageway over the grassed central reservation and across to the road on the other side... Seems 100 yards of traffic and a roundabout was just too much to sit in for the van driver.
Why buy a £20,000 car with advisory's still on the mot - says a lot but not in a good way about the guy selling them. Where as you do advisory free mot on your cars.

Well if car auction have crashed, it isnt filtering down to the second hand car market, im still seeing 12 year old cars with 150 - 200k on them for over £4k, couple of years ago you would have sold them for a few hundred quid or would have gone to the scrapyard
You can go by train in 5 hours to Wakefield bud, I could pick you up from Wakefield, then go to the auction, but whatever you do it's a massive task. If you go on Shipley transport site you may get a cheap price, I use a local guy and he would deffo deliver to you, but probably be 350 maybe more.

I supplied G3 my trade insurance as requested. I have trade accounts with both BCA & Aston Barclay , neither asked me for any upfront money (Aston Barclay had a £54 joining fee). The lady at G3 said it was because I didn’t have trade premises. I’m starting to trade cars from home ( I have room for 6-8 cars ) , I’m unable to work from trade premises as I am a full time carer for my mother who has been diagnosed with dementia so I needed to find something I could do from home to fit in with caring for her.. There are no bargains once dealers get hold of cars to sell, same as there's no fair trade in prices off dealers for our trade in vehicles, that's why dealers make money isn't it? Trade your car in with it's epic extras or options from factory and most dealers just have a set book price of cars with standard options, that is unless the dealer is advertising their cars for sale they then seem to recognise options to list for the sale of there stock. Like you never see a booky on a bike do you ?

If its a repo I usually find there rubbish, usually stopped paying due to some nasty fault, at best if they can't keep up payments they'll not have paid for servicing or repairs, very risky purchase.
Dsg gearboxes work well when they work But they are very complex and complex things as always have more to go wrong My local VW / Audi specialist tells me he's repairing them very often and serving them as and when is absolutely paramount
Shifting metal guy is a proper tyre kicker at auctions - goes to film useless footage without any significant spend. In the trade we call people like him tyre kicker traders
James you need to buy car trailer that you can use to pick up and drop off cars i. Might save you a lot of cash and it would be a great investment using the LR as a works tow car.
@@ChopsGarage remapping doesn't necessarily cause more strain, you can decrease fuel consumption and keep the same bhp and also lose things like hill start, auto distance control and all other things that are standard on an ecu that your car may not have.
@@boyasaka I worked for VW for 12years as a service engineer. VW never advise a remap even though they know that the ecu corrupts the DSG because the ECU is generally loaded with things that the gearbox cannot handle. Also a remap can invalidate a warrantee because most people go for a stage one which is just all about extra power. A stage 2 (blue line) remap fixes all the faults.associated with dsg failure
Maybe the farm was bought when he was in the plumbing trade? Might be more money in that than the used car game but it knackers your knees... Anything in his missus' farm stock worth buying/does she want an old Megane? Ask Dave if he wants any used Land Rovers.
Well he's still got to get the 'cheap' cars back 300 miles, or should he just throw that in, most transport companies want 500 quid for that, never mind James going over there, doing like 600 miles round trip.
Some of the trade prices quoted are mental. £11k on that 12 year old Audi A5 that went through... People have lost their minds to pay that.

Applied for a trade account at G3, they want a £500 bond if you trade from home, when questioned they could give no logical answer as to why 😮
