I am in awe of Handel so inspired by God to write this wonderful masterpiece from His word truly awesome awesome man. It amazes me that people can listen to this and not be challenged by the message. Praise the Lord! 💖
Yes, his head was filled with the words of God and how to express them, he wrote the entire music in 30 days, so I read. Definitely God inspired music!
what an extraordinarily moving sequence matched by great signing , 51:38 a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, --59.55 Thy rebuke has broken his broken his heart-- ------- lovely portrayal of the man of sorrows. The context makes the singing so poignant "John 1: 11-13 "He was the world , and though the world was made through him,the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet, to all who did receive him,--- he gave the right to become children of God."
Unfortunately, this is a shortened version of this glorious work.. There's several parts missing (.."Behold the Lamb of God.." etc.) It's a real pity as, this is a spiritual work and, in my opinion, should be heard in its entirety. That aside, it's an excellent performance by all involved. Thank You! Christmas Blessings to all.
Saiful Rimkeit That may be because this rendition cut a lot of movements. I’m not familiar with the BBC 1965 version, but this rendition is missing a few arias, recitatives, etc...
@@neurodivergentwithwilsons Now it makes sense. Frankly, before I read your answer, I was scratching my intuitive head and wondered how this could have happened. Thank you for your explanation.
For me the opening is way too fast as if they want to get it out of the way! I have a slower intro I play in my car that creates a much more powerful mood!
In some passages it is indeed played too quickly, as if the musicians would be in an hurry... In these passages I miss the chance to think about what the text has to tell us...
Wow!!!!
I miss some of my favourite choir pieces like "And He shall purify" after the alto arie "But who will abide", then "Surely" after "He Was Despised" etc. It seems that in this shortened version exactly the choir pieces were massively cut. A pity. But overall I like the performance and especially the dirigent. Have you noted, that Ian Bostridge sings everything by heart, without looking into the scores?
I agree. Too many of the choruses are cut. "All we like sheep..." No wonder it's so short. If one is going to do the 'Messiah' - then do it all! Do they think so little of people's attention span?

Beautiful version with great voices and wonderful moments. But the tempi are in my opinion often too quick and both female soloists have difficulties with coloratura every now and then, which is not surprising
A beautiful, beautiful performance. It is difficult to believe that Handel wrote Messiah in - I think - 24 days. He must have been channelled; a deep and holy spirituality oozes from every note. However, I don’t know what the significance of the red/black background is, but from some angles it looks utterly demonic.

Well, the Baerenreiter edition contains the Alto version because that's what Handel wrote. The Bass version was never performed by him but is a later tradition, and one that should be dispensed with altogether.

This splendid rendition is somewhat unusual in that they managed to perform it 25 minutes faster than the BBC did in a 1965 version.

Handel, Bach, Pachelbel. O existen otros previos a ellos? Gracias
