Brilliant, I'm been left speechless in admiration. The music from sunshine is a great complement to this world record dive from William Trubridge. I once went down 10 metres (in full diving gear) and panicked and had to come back up.

Hi William, I can't get enough of this video. The quality, the music, and the total abandon during the glide is amazing. I freedive with Guillaume Nery in Nice now, he'll be in Dean's BH in november with you guys, so I wish you and all the competitors all the best for this world championship !

I've shown this video during a church camp to about 200 kids (broken up into smaller sections). The class topic was "not giving in to fear."
I've also shown this video to my math students (Algebra 2 through Multivariable Calculus) and today I just showed it to students of my 3-week logic course. They had to comment on evidence that this dive did or did not occur.
Good luck and God-speed on your continuing adventures, Mr. Trubridge!

Words can't express one's feelings of awe quite as vividly as one feels them, when watching how certain humans undertake seemingly impossible feats, to inspire others to join them hand in hand and achieve their own dreams.
You my friend, did just that, and for that, we are all thankful and handful.
    Thank you William.

Its like watching the finish of a 1500m track and field race, where arms flailing, legs burning, gasping for that breath and extra metre, one man, and one man only, is composed, as if almost lifeless. Where others are grappling at the air, and twisting in agony, he seems to be gliding effortlessly as if carried by the wind.
    EPIC.
    Truely magestic!!

Jon, I currently hold two freediving world records. I do not hyperventilate.
As far as I am aware the world records in all of the other men's disciplines were set without any hyperventilation. I would recommend that you enrol in a freediving course, or read the text "Manual of Freediving" if you want to learn more on the subject.

88 meters is a testament to not only your ability but your bravery! It's ok getting down there, but coming back up again...Get it wrong...well I don't need to spell it out to anyone.

If you want to understand the physiology then I would recommend reading Manual of Freediving, which is a good introductory text. Hypocapnia (through hyperventilation) makes a dive *feel* easy by dulling the urge to breathe, but it also causes your body to consume oxygen quicker, so you will black out sooner and with less warning.

I use a Speedo noseclip, which doesn't supply enough of a seal for most people to equalise off, but since I have easy-to-open E. Tubes I prefer to go with something streamlined, and the loose seal means that expanding air in ears/sinuses can trickle out the nose on the ascent (can't stand breathing it back in).

Tavistd, in the last 3 years my team and I would have removed several TONNES of sea-born plastic from the Blue Hole beach, as well as about a tonne of man-made detritus (matresses, rope etc) underwater in the blue hole itself. @KoziolekMatolek2010 Decompression stops are done to to reduce the amount of nitrogen in our blood we take from breathing in the air at depth from a diving tank which contains compressed air, and since william holds his breath and doesn't use any source of air like a diving tank, he doesn't need a safety stop because he simply has no nitrogen in his blood. when freediving even at great depth, no safety stops are needed.
    hope that helped :D

diving videos is to tie some very visible markers to the rope every 7 meters
or so .Because it's hard for a viewer to get a good impression of how fast/deep
your diving without a fixed marker they can reference.

Jon, they are far from being the same thing, and the difference is one of the most key points in understanding freediving physiology. Those who believe that hyperventilating oxygenates their blood more than the kind of breathing you are currently doing in front of your computer will be more prone to blackout and limit their performance in the long run. All hyperventilation does is create hypocapnia, which makes it feel easier, when in fact the body uses oxygen quicker.

a friend of mine did the same thing; he hyperventilated a minute straight and tried to break his own record. The last thing he said before he dove was "I feel really dizzy." Long story short, he broke his record by about 20 seconds and blacked out with weights strapped to him. The spotter who was near him couldnt get him out so I had to dive down and help. Its not something to be taken lightly. The best way is to prepare and know your body's limits. Not take dangerous shortcuts.

I had a free diving class. The first thing we've learned, is that hyperventilating=death. It is not easy to explain in the few words allowed here, but basically this technique of accelerated breathing prior to diving, can easily get you unconscious under water without the slightest warning sign and have you drown in a pool. Each year there are several such drownings. Most UA-cam users are probably are not aware of this danger, I though about sharing it.
