I'm not expert in optics, but I think the old lens has astigmatism, stars looking like crosses. The replacement looks better, maybe once you tame the tracking issue and also if you add a generic field flattener, star shape will improve even more. In case you are interested, there is a god scope that normally doesn't cost too much in the used market and is really good, the Orion/celestron/Skywatcher ED80. Underrated scope, but is very good. But if you plan to keep the svbony, that's fine too, we gotta use what we have! All the best. Clear skies!
Thanks for the video. I wanted to buy a replacement to my Celestron AZ102 660mm which isn't perfect, but now I think the AZ102 is much better than even the revised version of 48p 102mm svbony. I'm glad I cancelled my order.
I tested this scope for two weeks and had problems with focus and images were not as sharp even with image correction filter. Quality of the telescope was awesome. I have the Sv48p 90mm that is awesome and I use it for imaging rig.
Is the lens cell made of metal or plastic ? I have a Svbony 102/714 mm ED refractor and it is excellent, with very nice image quality, with a lot less chromatic aberration than my Bresser 102/1000 f10 achromat.

It's metal.
Pinched optic case...??? Or lens curvature defect...???
Good question! Wish I knew the answer.
@@shortexposureastrophotogra4988 did you try to open the lens seat, re-arrange the lens, and retighten the doublet with less force...?
@@ciliiyou I haven't tried any changes on the new objective. Might be worth a try.
