We were very fortunate to get a beautiful warm day with little wind and a few thin cirrus clouds. Rainy the day before and clouds rolled in later that night, then more rain on the 10th. Images taken with ZWO ASI178mc, Meade ETX60 mounted on a Celestron AVX.
ZWB3 filter blocks visible light, passes UV/IR
Переглядів 324 місяці тому
I recently found an unusual filter that does the opposite of a stock UV/IR cut filter included with DSLR cameras. It blocks most visible light and passes UV and Infrared. After a little experimenting with exposure times, I found I could go for Infrared only, Ultraviolet only, or try to get both. It's best to set your camera to raw quality for this.

I found an inexpensive HA filter on Aliexpress for $45 tax and shipping. I spent $58.95 total for a 72mm filter that I can use with my full spectrum Nikon D50 and 300mm lens. They have several sizes available. I also picked up a 52mm to 72mm step up adapter ring so I can use it with other lenses, too. This filter is supposed to target 656nm and is 20 nm wide. If you want to spend a lot more $$$...

Follow along as I install ASCOM platform, Cartes du Ciel and Stellarium (which I couldn't get to run the mount) to a Windows10 laptop. I can run the mount with Cartes du Ciel by way of USB, but not wireless. Wireless does work with Explore Stars software. The Explore Scientific website says there is a problem with wireless communication and Windows 10.

Explore Scientific iEXOS 100 HD vs non HD mount

During Christmas 2023 shopping season, Explore Scientific offered some bargains on equatorial mounts. I ordered the iEXOS 100 HD instead of the cheaper iEXOS 100-2. This is a smaller mount, similar in size to tracker type mounts. Due to a mixup, I received the wrong tripod. After contacting Explore Scientific customer service, I received the correct tripod. I compare the two similar models and ...

Great video! I just received the IEXOS- 100 PMC-Eight 2 days ago and tried to connect with explorestars on my laptop. I followed all the instructions, but to no avail. So, I went out today and purchased a Samsung Galaxy A9+ tablet and I'm still not getting any communication between the tablet and the mount. I don't know what I'm missing. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated 🙏 Greetings from Ontario, Canada
I got the Orion 2x54. It does have a larger field of view than what you have. I know because I purchased yours at a much more premium cost. The Orion's are all metal. They do not bring in stars as dim as yours due to the magnification difference but that is what gives its wider field of view. I am in bortle 7.5 and I am able to use mine in conjunction of a red dot finder. I can see the stary background and the red dot at the same time and helps in guiding my scope manually.
@lornaz1975 thank you for sharing!
@@shortexposureastrophotogra4988 Just FYI I was able tonight to measure the field of view of the Orion 2x54 and I was able to get the entire big dipper in view which would be 26°.
Nice binoculars.
Great work Sir 👏
My experience with Explore Scientific (which is a lot of experience) their customer service is barely adequate. Glad you got helped. Seems when you are able to contact them they are fine but actually making contact as well as providing shipping information is where they drop the ball.
Great explanation, really appreciate it.

Neat. Wish I could have seen.
Excellent video my friend, you've done more in a few min than 20 other vids did in days. Thank You
Just bought the Celestron version of this scope.
Neat.
Clever. Just subscribed.
That telescope is the BRESSER First Light AR-102/1000
I think the box had the name Bresser included with Explore Scientific
The longer the scope or the bigger the F number like your F10 , that is basically APO or at least FPL 51 glass , that is lower quality ED glass , so its kind of APO even tho it is not , it doesn't bend light so much hence the color focusing is good , if it was F4 with same glass , it would be totally different , so basically you got a very good scope , VERY GOOD SCOPE ! I wouldn't hesitate to get one , but locally there is not one there is F8 150mm ED , that will practically behave like that one just 50mm bigger aperture , same length i think , though it cost probably like 3 of those . There are all kinds of these Astro Reviewers , and you found a best scope . Congratulation , you will have a lot of fun with it . I just wish such scope was available locally where i am , but no .
Thank you Sir for being bold, making the conversion and sharing it. I've been thinking about doing something similar and your shared experience will embolden me to do something similar. What is your recommendation in terms of IR filters to put on lens itself for general non-astronomy picture taking. Thanks.
I bought Zomei brand 720nm and 950nm filters for around $25 each on Ebay. The 720nm is supposed to let a small amount of visible light (red) through the filter, while the 950nm is supposed to block all visible light and give a very high contrast black and white picture. You can get some color with either filter. Bright sunny days with a few clouds can give you a dark black sky with 950nm filter. The big thing is you can't see through either filter, so I use a tripod to set up the image, then add filter and take pictures. The light meter won't work correctly after the conversion, so I look at result on preview screen and adjust exposure time. I use f8 aperture to make focus easier. If you want to see through the filter for easier pictures, use a regular red or orange filter. They allow infrared light through, so you can get nice effects.
please let me know if any one have an issue for connecting to laptop. i got downloaded app and data but only see *please wait* and never show up the navigation rose.
Did the data copy into your pictures folder? If not, the app won't see it.
Also, make sure you connect to your mount via wifi BEFORE starting the app.
@shortexposureastrophotogra4988 yes data (on picture folder)and app looks also last night i download ascom and chartes du ceil and works with the USB cable,
I’ve had this mount for a week and having problems with aligning the scope to Polaris and having alignment issues. Starting to rethink my purchase.
I've used mine outside a couple times. The first time, I found Polaris in the peephole tunnel. Couldn't find it the other times. Haven't tried to align the polar scope to it yet.
I use software assisted polar alignment. The azimuth adjuster is needed for a fine tuning of the polar alignment and really needed for decent astrophotography
A friend of mine just got the IEXOS 100-2 and cannot see anything through the peephole for polar alignment. 🤔
I also had this telescope, its price is excellent. I also purchased a 6 mm 68 degree eyepiece for a magnification of 166x and that was all I needed.
I just picked this mount up for $299 iEXOS-100-2 PMC-Eight Equatorial Tracker System with WiFi and Bluetooth. Hope it is a good mount. I did not purchase the azimuth adapter or the polar scope to cut cost, but will in the future. This my first go to equatorial mount.
I've seen comments from people who say they have success with what you bought. I finally got a break in the weather and got my mount outside recently. The polar tunnel works, but it's a small window. Takes some practice. A digital angle finder helps get your latitude setting accurate.
I appreciate this video. I have the light version coming this week. I just could not justify the HD ver at this point. If after a year with this and my 80mm doublet I can upgrade the tripod and adapter if I want.
Looks like they are sending me the light tripod back, so I will have both. I plan to test both tripods to see how much difference it makes.
More fun! After I returned the wrong tripod, they realized I was supposed to get BOTH tripods. Now they are sending it back to me!
They did eventually request the return of the wrong tripod. They paid return shipping.
I did something very similar - used lead diving wieghts to increase the oaverall weight and balance.

Only video ive ever seen that actually clears this up. Thank you.
I had the d50 and loved it, but "upgraded to a d200. I always had trouble getting good focus with the d200 compared to the d50. I wish i still had it.
You can find some with low shutter count numbers for a decent price
<sigh> I never shot stars, but I did love using those basic film cameras. Especially Black & White film that I shot, developed, and printed. Good times!
Same place I started! I remember a time when I only saw black and white pictures in my imagination. Wanted to do it just like Ansel Adams.

This is the 102mm 600 FL? Model
I purchased 1 month ago a new Bresser 102/1000 mm here in Romania - Eastern Europe and it had a dirty lens. I sent it back and they gave me a second one. Curiously the second one also has a dirty interior lens but to a much smaller degree, just 3 relatively small dirt stains on the lower side of the interior lens. This one also has a few dust particles in between the lenses. Through the eyepiece everything looks great in my opinion. Now I don’t know what to do with it, should I keep it ? Should I send it back again ? Is it normal for refractors to have a more or less dirty lens when sold new ? I don’t know what to do with it. Does yours have a clear lens ? I would really appreciate you opinion. Thank you!
Mine seems ok. I would try looking through it during daytime and at the moon. If it seems OK, probably keep it. Some dust is normal. Be careful about cleaning it as the coatings are very thin. Don't use glass cleaner. Lots of videos show how to properly clean.
@@shortexposureastrophotogra4988 Thank you for your answer. I already used it during the day but through the eyepiece it looks perfectly fine. Only when pointing a flashlight at the lens I can see those relatively small stains on lower side of the interior lens. But it is really weird that this is the second one with stains on the lens.
nice!
Like! What is the practical maximum magnification with this telescope? Theoretically it would be 204x but in practice? I have this telescope with 25 and 10 mm eyepiece but I want to buy a 6 or 5 mm one for higher magnification to see the planets bigger in size but I do not know which magnification would be too much and unpractical. Thank you!
My experience with pushing a telescope to its so called maximum power has been lackluster to say the least. The sky needs to be very steady so you don't get the atmosphere disturbance. Doesn't seem to happen in Indiana!
@@shortexposureastrophotogra4988 Thank you for your answer.
Love your ingenuity brother, thanks for posting!
Thank you for the detailed “how to” on the mount. Mine just arrived an hour ago, this video makes it much more clear on how to use it!!!
I think it's cool. Little satellites in a train gliding through the sky...
Astronomers everywhere just love these.
Nice. I have wanted to see some, but haven't been able to do so yet
Like! How about galaxies ? Can it see the galaxies well ?
Not really. For very faint objects like galaxies, you need a much larger diameter telescope with a lower f number. This is a 4 inch f/10. You need at least 8 inch minimum diameter and f/5 or lower can see some galaxies in dark sky areas. Through an eyepiece, a galaxy is extremely faint. It is not like the pictures you see online. They are often barely visible, so people try avoid all street lights, flash lights, etc so they can have a chance to see them. Large Dobsonian telescopes are popular for this.
Thank you! 😊
