i must say i came by this work of art from watching the film "Raging Bull" I thought it was so beautiful, that i had to find the composer. I still find it today a master piece and most moving.
World aint beautiful. Cannibals, terrorism, common theft involving injured ones, kids stabbing kids, fortnite, undiscovered and terrifying deep oceans and alot more. but just rarely its beautiful.

I truly believe this to be the most emotionally devastating piece ever written, and superior to the equally brilliant Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo. Mascagni had a gift for melody. 1:56 through 3:00 is just beyond description.
Try the orchestral Intermezzo known as "ratcliff's dream" from Guglielmo Ratcliff to hear one of Mascagni's most beautiful compositions. And all of his operas are well worth hearing.

So beautiful. This is the kind of music I would imagine at the front door to heaven, with Christ extending his hand and welcoming us in, telling us not to be afraid, welcoming us home. I found it while watching the musical interlude scene in Raging Bull, and kept rewinding to the beginning of the scene and playing it over and over until I finally researched the composer and found it on youtube! Glad I did.
I discovered him today.... although I guess I had already heard some music from Pietro Mascagni before.. Alas, I was very sorry to read he became close to Benito Mussolini in the later part ofd his life... How is it possible ?!

Fell in love with this movement watching Raging Bull over 40 years ago
i must say i came by this work of art from watching the film "Raging Bull" I thought it was so beautiful, that i had to find the composer. I still find it today a master piece and most moving.
It's a remarkably poignant and complex composition. Excellent choice by Scorsese for the segment with the home movie footage.
