No offense, but the amount of UA-camrs not getting it is phenomenal... A "blue" overdrive is a Blues Breaker. A popular purple BB pedal which has a royal name is the King/Prince of Tone. And that's what the name refers to.
No offence taken 🙂 never thought it was a blues breaker tone to be honest, but a good note on the King of Tone pedal. What we do know is this is a cracking overdrive… cheers… 👍🙂
The Royal Blue has nothing to do with the bluesBREAKER it is more a bluesDRIVER (which is a completely different pedal). It is some kind of mixture between a timmy and a bluesdriver. It is way more dynamic than a king of tone oder any other bluesBREAKER style pedal.
I’m a Matt Schofield fan as well. I have a Mad Professor Supreme’ that I like the left side , which is the Royal Blue OD. It’s been damaged recently, so I bought a Royal Blue to replace it. The right side of the Supreme is Twimble. I wasn’t taken with it.
I've have a tc electronic Overdrive pedal for a while and not really got to grips with it, but after watching that I understand how to use. That is a very tasty pedal but I'll experiment with tc pedal, before I think about buying another pedal, I have 5 now, the most I have ever owned. As always a top episode, informative and entertaining, thoroughly enjoyed the Paul Kossoff. A little bit of politics and current affairs this week too! Keep up the good work.
I’m struggling with mine… it is extremely powerful. It doesn’t stack well imo. The drive sounds very ‘hi-fi’. I have got good tones from it… but thought it would be an ‘always on’ pedal. The volume and drive interact in a very impractical way…. I’m always bending down to adjust it during a gig. Drive up and volume down or vice versa. Back to my TS9 for me.
Interesting you say it doesn’t stack well. That is so dependent on your gear isn’t it. It works nicely with Steve’s amp but like you say that doesn’t always work out either with gear or just what we like/want from our sound. And when it’s not right it can really throw you can’t it. TS9 is far more of a ‘colour’ to your tone, a great pedal that one, very distinctive. Ran a super tube screamer for years, not sure why I sold it. I know what you mean when you say hi-if though on the Mad Prof. Thanks for the comment, really good to hear others thoughts and experiences. Makes this worth doing 🙂
Sounds great 👍🏼 I used it with my Strat and it made it sound less Stratty, which was perfect for me 😂 Bit pricey for a boost though, which is all I'd use it for 😬
I do like the EQ on it, that can really shape the sound beautifully (I personally find many players don’t think about EQ before gain stage, and in the loop too) but there are a lot of options out there for boost: ODR1, Spark, Katana, Tumnus, Plumes, even a Rat2 can be a great boost/overdrive. Steve obviously felt ‘spendy’ when he bought this one…
@@TheBluesBox Not the MXR no. The real one. The MXR wasn't very good for me (the sound is fine - slightly different but fine) mostly because I don't like small box pedals but the overall build to - the resistance on the nobs, the finish, the click of the stomp button, theoverly bright lcd, even the click of the jack sockets all were not to my taste and ruined the experience for me.
What do you think of this “blue” overdrive?
I have one and it is always on my board. Phenomenal pedal.
Can’t argue with that. I’ve been trying out other Mad Prof pedals and like them a lot.
If someone asks what song that is at the intro and at 9:40 min... its Free Fire and Water🤘
And what a great album it’s off too…

Never tried their Twimble type drive pedal from them. Now I’d like to hear it 😅 thanks for the comment…

Thanks Kevin. It was a pro player who showed me how to use an overdrive many years ago. Hopefully we’ve put across what he told me well enough 🙂
smooth sounding for sure
It it’s a great overdrive, not the cheapest though. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 👍
Another nice tutorial
Nice review chaps. Nobels odr1 for me.
That’s a hugely popular pedal… looks great value too.

I just got mine today. Also noticing the stacking issue. Tried to stack it with a blues power, soloist and Gladio sc. it’s sounds so good on its own.

'this is called jeff throwing me under the bus' haha
Nice
Would be nice to hear how mush drive it got.
Good point! Maybe we’ll revisit that. 👍
I didn't like mine - I sold it for a Timmy V3 which I much prefer for blues.
Is that the MXR Timmy?

You must love it for the prices they go for 🙂 I know what you mean about the experience of a pedal’s build quality though.
Papal Purple more like
Isn’t that more magenta these days?
