I feel you on that, I bought these and was impressed using cheap DACs and amp's. So much detail that some songs sound different, you pick up on background you never knew was there.
Now I have the AAA 888 so wish me luck
(Edit) : wow the 888 really brings these headphones to life. Even more detail but also I would describe them as smooth. Very enjoyable to listen to no fatigue. I'm an amateur at best in audiophile stuff fyi

I am a musican and record and mix my music, mixing is also how Sennheiser marketed these headphones. From a mixing and reference perspective these headphones are great and for the price Exceptional. Arguably you will not get a better mixing headphone for the money, which is what they cost here in the UK. I find it a bit silly you are making out the leads and extras should be better when its clear the cash has gone into the headphone its self and with this price obviously corners have been cut. The newer 400 Pro is the same headphone but with a better finish on the plastic and a better cable for about £50 more. Yes the lead is a bit cheap, but easy to replace if breaks. The headphones are plastic and not the most robust, but are also not badly built.
Soundswise? we can pick and poke and how the highs might be pipped here and the lows there, comparing them to headphones twice or three times the price. But the bottom line is for mixing these headphones are great. They will sound as good as the mixed pumped into them which is what they are suposed to do, not make a mix sound better. I tested them on various mixes including some old rubbish mixes I did and they did the job as a reference headphone. Anyone on a budget and want to mix ballanced and well put together mixes. these will do the job for £140, as long as you do yours.

Dude, come on now. The 560s has a crap build, that´s true, but it is a very good headphone, especially for forward vocal and soundstage lovers, it´s nice for gaming too and it gives you a taste what sennheiser sound means, til you get an HD600, 650.
With your way of testing, every Beyerdynamic is sibilant, non-neutral and full of crap, haha xD

hello. I'm guessing from what you're saying that this wouldn't be ideal for studio use because of all the melding right? I just ordered the AKG K701 solely for mixing. If you have tried it do you think it's a better pair for that use than the HD560s?
    Thanks in advance! :D

    • @NoThemeReviews

I think you can use any gear for your professional use, as long as you're happy with its performance. So, while I don't think Sennheiser was remotely truthful about the 560s' abilities, you may still think it works for you. There's no way for me to predict how you'd experience the headphones.
But, objectively speaking, the 560s has a lot of issues that do not justify its $200 price tag.
As for the K701, I haven't heard that. I had the K712 a few years ago; I loved its comfort and fit and finish, but the sibilance was a bit much for me.
As for an alternative to the 560s, it really depends on what you're looking for and your budget. If you want neutral sound in this price range, then it will be difficult. Manufacturers don't produce neutrally-tuned headphones in this price bracket, at least none that I know of. You can get fairly close, however, with various options: Monoprice HR5, Rane RH50, OneOdio Studio Headphones, being a few off the top of my head. These aren't true neutral, but I think perform no worse than the 560s, and none have that ridiculous sibilance spike.

Hello, I am new to the land of audiophile headphones, amp, dac, etc and wanted to know first, what you would suggest for immersive gaming and movie listening experience only for less than $500? After doing research for headphones that seemed to fit this category I found the Argon MK3 Modhouse headphone for large soundstage and bass which I figured would compliment the movie/gaming experience. Am I correct in assuming that those characteristics is what makes for fun, enjoyable, immersive experience for games/movies? Are there other characteristics that would better serve that use case or others that would be better at these two characteristics? Keep in mind I am not that much of a competitive gamer so imaging doesn't need to be perfect, just good enough.
Also, if I were to go with the Argons I have heard from reviews online that they need a lot of power to drive them at their full potential upwards of 6 watts ( I am assuming at 50 ohms which is what is stated as the specs for the original Fostex T50rp headphone, unless the mod has altered this, again I am not sure ). I am also not sure if this means that they will be quieter with less power or if they will lose some of their characteristics resulting in less bass or soundstage etc. but still be loud? Assuming this is the case, are there any amp/dacs that you could recommend for high power to drive these headphones? Keep in mind when searching to purchase these headphones the modhouse website has been sold out of the T50rp variant for sometime which lead me to purchasing the SE version used. This is why when looking for amp/dacs I have tried to find some thing that would be both powerful SE and balanced that way I could immediately use the headphones when I receive them via SE connection but still have the option of sending the headphones in at a later time to have them converted to balanced if it really makes that much of a difference. For amps I was looking at the THX 789 and Schiit Magnius. For dacs I was considering SMSL SU-8 or Schiit Modius so far. I am sorry for the lengthy post, this is the most time I have spent researching products to buy second to building my PC earlier this year due to the current pandemic. I appreciate your time and any response you are willing to give, thanks.

Hi. I'm not much of a gamer, and I try not to comment about how headphones sound during gaming--since I'd show my ignorance. But, I can comment about your post regarding the Argon's performance.
The Argon is a specialty headphone that gets far, far too much hype. It has an aggressive V-shape signature, meaning the bass is significantly elevated along with treble. In my experience, it is quite fatiguing for music. I know that FPS games may benefit from this type of sound signature--but I really wouldn't agree that the Argon is the perfect headphone for any application. As for those who claim that the Argon has large soundstage--that's not accurate. If you're coming from a typical gaming headset or Beats headphones, then the Argon may appear to have wide soundstage. But compared to audiophile headphones, the Argon has average soundstage--and it lacks the ability to present verticality or depth. In other words, instrument placement is not this headphone's strong suit.
The Argon requires a significant amount of power. Underpowered, the Argon's bass is boomy, loose, and the overall sound signature is a bit muddy. Your amp choices will drive the Argon just fine. As for dacs, I wouldn't put too much effort into that aspect. The SU8 is a neutral dac, but I haven't heard the Modius so I can't say what its sound signature is. Regardless, there are far cheaper alternatives to the SU8 that provide neutral sound. If you want to connect your amp to a balanced source, then your options are more limited--leaving you with the SU8, Soncoz LA-QXD1, and Modius, which are all fairly close in price.
I was a bit confused regarding your comment that the Argons need upwards of 6 watts. I don't know who's making such claims, but it is utterly ridiculous. There is no headphone in the world that needs that much power. I know Fostex for their Mk3 versions recommends a maximum of 3 watts, but even that is overzealous. There is a general truism that increasing power alters driver performance--not always, but generally. But at some point there are diminishing returns, and that point is different for each headphone. So, if we take for granted that the T50rp is rated for a maximum of 3 watts, pumping 6 watts into the headphone does not double its performance. In fact, you may either not notice any difference or very little difference.
In fact, I think Modhouse has a far more conservative and reasonable suggestion for power. If memory serves, Modhouse recommends 1 watt at 50 ohms.
I'm sorry; I don't mean to negate your expectations. You may very much enjoy the Argon.

I wouldn’t say they have a balanced sound. It’s a warm sound signature and treble is reduced. But, assuming you want that type of sound, $300 is a fair price I think. Don't know who told you what you hear in a live concert is a true representation of music...it's a complete lie....nothing is true representation except what the mixing and mastering engineer heard in his/ her console with the studio monitors for that particular mix.
The rapid decay/ fast transients is actually a good thing for mixing most genre with a pair of open can except EDM or similar ( where there is no rule at all as almost everything is Synth or sample sounds)
I'm not trying to defend Sennheiser at all, their marketing strategy is pure cringe...but in real world studios, this particular headphone will be used a lot for checking mixes by thousands of engineers, big and small.

Almost every band ( medium to large) use JHA custom monitors for live use, Sennheiser is pushing hard to sell IE40/400 Pros to very few musicians who still use universal IEMs.
It's not exactly the sound quality, but the isolation what live musicians need...I myself have used hd25 for years on stage in smaller gigs...in studio almost everything is done on speakers and few only check their mixes with headphones...but this is only my personal experience.

The 560s EQs very well due to its low distortion (check ASR review for the details), and since EQ is a must if you're going to get the best sound from a set of phones. Out 9f the box they sound too bright, and a lack of bass. Use the appropriate EQ (I use the presets from Jaakko Pasanen using oratory90 and crinacle FR plots) which transforms them. I don't think there's any point in spending more and more money on a headphone that you don't like. My rule of thumb is that if you don't like the sound after a few hours, then you shouldn't have to bend over backwards to make the headphone sound right to you. I sold my 560s.
I can't answer your question about what's the best headphone under $200. There is no such thing. There is no objective "best" anything. You need to figure out what sound signature you prefer, and what music you generally like to listen to. There are plenty of options for under $200, such as the Porta Pro, Philips L2 and M1 Mk2, Philips X2 and SHP9500/9600, Sennheiser HD400s, Sony MDR-MA100, just to name a few. These all have different features and performance, and there's not a single one that's perfect for everyone.

Headphone collector and owner of these and the 599, 600, 280, 650, and 660s. From left to right they're listed least used to most used. For me it's almost entirely comfort based because I've noticed that it only takes me about 15-30mins to get used to a headphones sound signature and I'll end up wearing them for 4+hrs on average. If a headphone is uncomfortable for the whole adjustment period and it doesn't offer anything better than my main 3, chances of it getting anymore use after that are slim to none. Sennheiser 200 and 600 series headphones just fit my seemingly weird ear anatomy too well (my ears fill out the 600 series ear cups) and they just happen to fall well within my budget while still being highly accessible. **I also think they look cool.** (those Aeons tho, if it was 2019 and I'd seen those and they were priced like 650s I wouldn't be here since I probably would've bought those and stopped.)

That's hard to say since the 579 seems to be discontinued. If you find one, likely the price will be inflated or the headphone will be used and out of warranty...so, you gotta factor that in. Honestly, the 579 is a fun headphone, and I hear some similarities between it and the 560s. I can't claim any certainty in this, but my experience with the 569 and 579 lead me to wonder whether Sennheiser just took those drivers and tweaked a few things here and there for the 560s.

Had a quick look at the Harman target curve in my equalizer app for the HD560s. There seems to be a spike at 3kHz of about 5 decibels, and this does not say anything about its detail retrieval & 'natural' sound decay...
Seems like Sennheiser did some R&D to produce lower impedance headphones, and did not know what to say about the end result.
Marketing Team: Don't worry, let us prop up the headphone such that it will sell!

I’ve been thinking about it for a while, I think you’re being far too critical, I think you just hate things that are popular and are hopping on a sort of anti-hype train. These headphones are worth every penny, I did not have to do any mental gymnastics to come to this conclusion. When I watch your review comparing it to the 6xx (which seems to be a universally good headphone), you don’t make it out to seem much better or worse than it. Yet you still express dislike towards the 560, unless you just don’t like the 6xx either. I know you’re basing this off of sennhieser’s claims, and you want to hold companies accountable for what they say, but companies make wild claims all the time, that’s marketing and the business world for you. Your reviews are needlessly negative, and you don’t seem to purpose alternatives to products you rate negatively. I honestly believe you are super critical of things because you think it makes you seem cool and edgy, when in reality (and I really hate to insult you) you come off as toxic. Your decision to turn off display likes and dislikes is also questionable and makes you seem more toxic, because most of the time people do that because they’re insecure and can’t handle criticism. Wouldn’t it be so much more badass if you showed that you get a bunch of dislikes but continued to do and say whatever the hell you want in spite of it? Something really seems off about you.
Anyways I will be enjoying my purchase, I will not be needing anymore headphones after buying the 560s. At the end of the day, it’s about the music, not what you use to listen to them.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  3 роки тому +13

I’m glad you like the 560s. Nobody else has to, and absolutely nobody should buy this headphone expecting Sennheiser’s claims as true.
Negativity doesn’t sell, otherwise Zeos would have already used that technique. Sorry to break it to you, "edgy" and "controversial" doesn't actually bring people to the tent.
On the one hand, I don't want to criticize you for liking the 560. That's your experience and you have a right to it. Believe it or not, I am very happy you've found a headphone that works for you.
On the other hand, your beliefs about me and my channel are so absurd that I should address them.
I can't stand people who set double standards, or those who want to hear a specific thing from reviewers. That's exactly what you want, based upon your comments.
Here you are commenting about how you think the 560 is a good headphone--your endgame at this point--and yet you have the tenacity to tell me I can't have my opinion. Just like you, I paid for the 560s. More than that, I paid for every single headphone against which I tested the 560s. It seems to me I've earned the right to be critical, just as you've the right to tell people the positives.
Demanding that I be positive about headphones--particularly headphones YOU happen to like--is the most base form of censorship. I don't have to paint a rosy picture for you. Don't you get enough of that from all the other reviewers? Your demand for homogeny of opinion--both in format and content--is unsettling. People who think like you are a huge reason why so many reviewers regurgitate the same nonsense about products. THAT is toxic for the community. Pointing out faults of a product is the bare minimum of what a reviewer should do. Making you feel good about your purchase isn't and shouldn't be in the equation.
You also seem unwilling to recognize that some of us who talk about gear actually have a ton of experience. When I tell you that the 560s is a bad value proposition, it's because I have heard and tested more headphones and amps and dacs than most. It's not a comment about you or your preferences. It has nothing to do with whether or not I like or dislike the sound signature. I'm sure you watched other reviews of the 560s before you bought it. I wonder, did you write critiques to reviewers who hyped this headphone for having amazing detail or other flamboyant praise? Or did that not bother you?
I also have to put you on the spot for deforming my comments about the 560 in all its videos. Where exactly in any of the numerous videos did I say that I like or dislike the sound signature of any product I was comparing with the 560? All I do is document what I hear, and I don't comment about whether something sounds good or bad. That's for the consumer to figure out for themselves.
As for the public seeing the voting: you guys are completely lost. You have no clue how positive all of my videos are. I simply don’t promote voting because it is irrelevant. A small fraction of any viewerbase of any video from any channel actually votes and they vote on a whim. THAT is the basis for you to determine if a reviewer or video is trustworthy?! Lunacy. I think you're griping about the vote count because you just want to make an immediate decision about whether or not you want to watch a video. If so, then that's pretty lazy. If not, then what the hell difference does it make what 2-5% of the viewers think, good or bad?
I'm not going to debate you about the 560s. I am in no mood to change your mind about my channel. Hate it, like it, be indifferent to it--your call. I don't care. But never tell me what to say or how to say it. That's not your prerogative.
Go forth and tell people why you enjoy this headphone, love your music, live peacefully, and stop complaining a reviewer didn’t hand feed you positivity.

None of them are listenable to me without EQ, and HD560s have muddy upper bass, as well as too forward vocals to my taste, though easily fixable. After that HD599 sounds like a better version of HD560s, with wider soundstage, more rumble in bass, and overal more pleasant darker likeable presentation compred to anemic, dull and too bright HD560s. Crazy how HD560s are hyped so much, yet HD599 can be bought for much less (frequent sales promo) with better sound (after EQ) suitable for every genre. I would agree with most things except one. A decay longer than the waveform is not indicative of a natural sounding headphone. If it creates an artificial rock arena, this is a bad headphone. No headphone should add more to the decay than the recorded waveform. If a headphone adds a decay, no matter how 'natural' it sounds, it's not a natural sounding headphone for me because it's not faithful to the waveform. In this regard, I like the sound of planars and electrostats with their fastest decay possible. This is called faithfulness to the waveform and that contributes to the clarity of a headphone. Of course, the frequency response of the HD560s is far from natural, the peaks at 7.5 and 12 KHz only add to the sibilance without emphasizing the detail because the drivers are not resolving enough. Hence the price. The headphones like the HD6XX are rare exceptions.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  3 роки тому +1

Uh no I didn’t compare it to 2 $1000 headphones. If you’re referring to the Clear, then please understand what I said during that portion. I told you the Clear provided the most detail in that test to explain what the gold standard is for me. And it’s the exact same test I perform on every headphone. You’ll also notice that during that portion I referred to the x55-which is $300, yet has exceptional detail retrieval. Finally, as I’ve said over and over again, price is not an indicator of value or performance. That is a total fallacy.
But we should address the comment more directly. It's unacceptable to excuse Sennheiser's flamboyant claims just because their headphone is $200. Sennheiser makes robust claims about detail and clarity--and they do NOT qualify those statements within a price bracket. If they're shameless enough to say their headphone reveals "every detail in your music", then we should put that promise to the test. If the 560 came remotely close to the performance of the Clear, I'd have been impressed. But it is average at best, and in some respects sub-par in detail retrieval.
