  • Here is Colm O' Donnell & his daughter Siobhán O' Donnell singing Brian O' Lynn (0:00) on the TG4 series, Slí na mBeaglaíoch. Colm & Siobhán appear on the Sligo episode of the series, where they hail from.
Seo hiad Colm O' Donnell agus a iníon, Siobhán, ag canadh amhrán ar chlár de shraith TG4, Slí na mBeaglaioch.
    Lyrics:
Oh Brian O'Lynn was a gentleman born,
His hair it was long and his beard was unshorn
His teeth were far out and his eyes were far in
"Tis my natural beauty," says Brian O'Lynn
Brian O'Lynn had no breeches to wear
He got him a sheepskin to make him a pair,
With the fleshy side out and the woolly side in,
"They'll be cool in the summer" says Brian O'Lynn.
Brian O' Lynn went courting one night
He sent both the daughter and mother to fight
"Stop now" he explained he had but the tin
"Sure I'll marry ye both" says Brian O'Lynn.
Now Brian O'Lynn went to bring his wives home
He had but one horse that was all skin and bone
"I'll put her behind me as neat as a pin
and her mother before me" says Brian O' Lynn.
Brian O'Lynn and his wife and wife's mother
They all crossed over the Liffey together
The bridge it broke down and they all tumbled in
"We'll go home with the current," says Brian O'Lynn

My great grandpap played this song on his fiddle and sang 3 verses; different versions of the same tune. His great grandfather was born in Sligo, Clarion County, Pennsylvania in 1809.

Lovely song! i love this channel, from france. Reminds me the good vibes of my travel to galway , cong, lough nafooey mamtrasna, achill island etc.hm i like these names.. Happy to see that there are still some country in europe where your tradition is still alive.. i don't see other country where so much young people play traditionnal music. Please preserve this and don't let bad invasive influence cut you off from your roots, i can tell you it's not a good feeling

Miss Siobhan must’ve been younger in this. I’ve never known her to hit the high notes for. Then again, I just discovered her literally two weeks ago.

All of the songs on the "Slí na mBeaglaoich" are great. Is there a particular idea or theme behind this program besides good Irish songs elegantly played?

Father and Son, musicians Cormac and Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich journey up the West coast of Ireland, from Kerry to Donegal in their 40 year old campervan, Beauty. They celebrate each county's music, meeting with friends, artists and local musicians along the way.

This is more to my liking, get through this if you can, it’s a great story, in fairness to Ed, he also told a story, hopefully he never sees this, try and get through this and imagine the story,

Am i correct in saying this is nearly the same tune as Navvy Boots by the Dubliners?

Is there an Irish language version? I think that I can remember one from school.
