In my latest shop project you can see me make a mobile anvil stand with retractable wheels.
WHEN THE ANVIL IS BEING USED, THE WHEELS ARE NOT IN CONTACT WITH THE FLOOR AT ALL.
…but there will be some moron that will just not understand this.. and comment on the "axle stress" and we will all laugh at how stupid this person is.
I encourage all you UA-camrs and Blacksmiths out there to make your own version of this mobile anvil stand, it’s a great project build, and it’s incredibly useful in the shop.
Thank you to:

All of that for a boat anchor. A tree stump has been the answer for centuries with better impact distribution.
Keith Van Note you must fun at parties.
Want to brainstorm with me ?
You’d make a great dad.
Obiwan-kanobi please tell
Me what to do if I don’t have a tree ?
What kind of boat ? like how many pounds?
The repeated welder set up clip had me in stitches 😂😂😂
It reminded of Edgar Wright movies.
So much trim off!
Missed opportunity @ 13:04 for one more 😂
It really did make me laugh a little more every time
Your engineering mind is truly a gift. That locking mechanism was genius!
Matt Roberson huh, genius? That’s just a variation of a standard mobile tool stand. Lots of examples on UA-cam
@@markman63 Well there clearly aren't any examples on your UA-cam channel. Go back to your mom's basement. #trolllife
Are we not gonna talk about the planer and how cool that thing is? Love seeing old equipment still being used like this.
So many UA-cam creators that just make content to please or because they have to creat something but I think you're the most authentic creator I subscribe too.. it's always been a joy over the years to watch your work and the organic approach you take to your creations. Thank you for the many inspirations and for being a source of light for people to glean from. 👍
alex irving thank you 🙏🏼🤟🏼👊🏼🙏🏼
@@jimmydiresta thank you too 🤟🤟🤟
Alec Steele: A year in, why have I still not bolted my anvil down???
Diresta: **Born to Be Wild starts to play**
@@MJ-nb1qn Both are brilliant at what they do, and trying to compare them is like comparing a carpenter to a welder. Two completely different fields with completely different skill sets and constraints that aren't validly comparable or transferable between them beyond menial aspects like cutting stock material to size. So how about until Alec builds an art piece show table or Diresta makes a damascus claymore, we try not to play petty, idiotic "my youtube daddy can beat up your youtube daddy" type games?
@Right Round are you high or something? "the craftsmanship isn't there" is the silliest critique i've ever heard. Clearly you haven't seen Jimmy's videos, or your'e just being willfully ignorant. Jimmy makes things BOTH for videos and for a purpose, sometimes just one of those. Because of that, sure sometimes they aren't made in the same way as you would typically see, but most of the time they're completely unique, and you have nothing to compare them to. And in any case, they WORK. And it's safe to say that if something works in Jimmy's life/line of work, then it's pretty well built/designed. Generalizing "Makers" as people who use super glue is pretty sad to see, and saying that a person cannot be considered a craftsman by making pointless things is not only an elitist statement that NOBODY agrees with, but it's also ironic, because your entire argument is pointless..and i doubt you've ever made anything in your life besides stupid baseless arguments like this. Hoisted by your own petard! Now, please go away, because you don't deserve to watch these videos. Even if you don't, i'm sure you'll be blocked ;)
@Right Round Lets' see Alec do a Diresta style video that is interesting. He needs lots of cinematics and production to make his videos entertaining. Jimmy does not.
@Right Round Alec outsourced his hammer production.
@@custos3249 Hey what about a Carpenter like me who also welds? Or do I break the rules by being multi skilled?
Keep that welder start up clip. It was like an 80’s army movie get ready scene.
Jimmy is the first maker I started watching. When I first saw his New York workshop I thought who is this guy??? Lol anyway every time I see one of his videos in my timeline I get that feeling and I remember that workshop. I started making because of him. Thank you man.
Theodore Iliaskos thank you 👊🏼👊🏼🙏🏼
Man that NYC workshop was a rabbit warren.
Hey jimmy, I have been a subscriber since 2011, I remember the first video I ever saw of yours, I was 11 years old and I would watch your videos all the time throughout the years. A lot of your creations have inspired me to make a multitude of different things (at least try, I can only do so much at the age of 14). You definitely shaped my childhood in a way I never thought possible and I would like you to know that it’s not just amazing things you create. You also inspire people to do the things you do. So thank you for all the inspiration and information you have taught me over the years. Your work does not go unnoticed. Thank you.
Edit* I’m 20 now and doing great things 👍
Jimmy don’t let the trolls get you down I appreciate all you do and post. You inspire me to get to the next project. thank you
Love it! Especially the mechanism for the rollers is neat.
Regards,
Etna.
Woooo, the return of tiny-hands. Also, love the turn-on-the-welder sequence/s. :)
Nordic Mindfulness well my whole comment was gonna be this. 😬 the welder turn on got better every time I saw it. 😀
I love watching the things i hear about in the Making It podcast come to life in your videos.
Fabulous how these old machines saved from the scrap yard give you so much extra capability to make such fabulous man sized projects with such beautifully simple lifting mechanism and all held together with the blessing that is mig welding. Thanks for sharing!
Who ever edits your videos is an utter comedic genius.
Truly a work of art. I like the fast pace, the forethought, the confidence of the fabricator.
Mr. DiResta,
you are amazing
Jimmy your designs and their functionality always impress, but as a knife maker and bladesmith with only around a thousand square feet in my shop, this design really blew me away. I made a portable stand for my big anvil not long ago, but it is not as stout as this or as simple to use. Next time I make another stand, I will be using this as a guide. Thanks, and awesome work, as usual!
I would like to thank you jimmy .After watching your book building video and seeing how you cut the spine on the table saw . I slapped my self for not thinking of that before. I just set up and cut 26 sheaths spines in a heart beat I just make the sheaths as a hobby for friends and family but the time saved at my age of 76 is priceless . Hell it took longer to clear the saw than it did to cut the spine . Happy Trails
Love the old big planer.
It's a beefy planer.
Probably has Shelix head!
I worked around bigger scarier, noisier ones that are nearly as angry sounding as trailer mounted wood chippers.
I'm sure its been said at least 700 times already, but I'll say it for 701st time: This tool is amazing! I've been ruminating ideas for this very thing now that I have an "anvil" (13" chunk of railroad track), and my shop being in the back end of a carport dictates the need for a mobile anvil. Yadda yadda. Thanks for sharing :)
Absolutely gorgeous, and I never thought I'd say that about a mobile anvil stand.
Aesthetically fabulous. I love the look of that beast. I would never have attempted those retractable wheels, it just seams too complex. But after watching this I realize that it's not that complicated - very doable. Nice work. I don't have an anvil to put on it yet... build it and they will come.
Love how your using old machines , your shop is like a museum I hope to visit some day.
I love to see your mind in action. Such a simple mechanism, but if I were trying to think up a way to implement that I probably never would've thought of it. I'm sure it took quite a bit of trial and error. It always does. At least for me anyway lol. You're a true Artisan my friend. Keep up the Great Work.
Thanks Jimmy. I can't wait to get a big shop like that to do cool work like that. Very nice!
Always great videos! Don't know why but I really the clip of you turning on the wielder, Turning on the gas clip the wire. ...
That’s just awesome! Love the design of the caster engagement.
I did something similar for my anvil but used workbench flip down casters. Works well enough on a similar sized anvil (400lbs) but this looks much more robust... will have to give your version a go!
Great video, loved the editing and anvil mounting idea Jimmy, I really like the mobility of it, thank you!
Love the thickness planer with no guard, my jointer has no guard. Living on the edge!
That's nice a super solid yet easy to move around anvil stand, good job.
The welding transition shots were very Requiem for a Dream. Awesome.
Yvonne S Yes!!!! I couldn’t place it but it’s right here, you nailed 🙌🏼🙇🏻
Very good job Jimmy. I like your videos. I am a welder by proffesionel. You have good ideas with metal and wood. Greetings from Germany. Andi👍👍👍👍👍
Genius idea! I love the mechanism for the casters.
That was a awesome Jimmy!! Love your style and your craftsmanship!!
That mechanism to lift and lower was really simple but brilliant. Youre killing it on content this year man!
This looked like a fun video to make! And a really cool project, to boot. Thanks, Jim!
Super simple build and works very well. Thanks jimmy for the idea. I’m Tired of using a dolly to move mine.
Absolutely LOVE this build. Fantastic work Jimmy, really inspirational
Terrific build Jimmy! I can see how it's nice to be able to move a heavy Anvil around like that....👍👍👍👍
wow this is amazing! loved the extensive demonstration of the finished project.
That is cool dood!
The locking mechanism is great. You are incredible, I wish I had some of your creativity
Your builds always amaze me!
Nice work! Watching this reminds me I still need to finish off my mitre station.... have had casters ready to mount but haven’t taken the time....
Brilliant Jimmy 👏, your shop is an envy to us and your work is inspiring. Keep up the work.
Brilliant design. Mobile, yet totally sturdy when necessary.
I like the cut-scene you added in right before you start welding. I'm gonna have to try that in my own videos.
First time I ever seen a lever action like that for a set of casters I'm inspired to build something similar love the channel
I like the wood and metal mix! It doesn't look like it takes much effort to push the wheel down with those little hands. Nice build Jimmy!
Jimmy, you need a Part 2 where you make a mobile Swage Block stand.
BTW, I scored myself a FREE Swage Block from the Art Department at the school I work at. It was being used as a door stop. It is 12 x 12 x 5 and Heavy.
Love seeing all your new tools in the video!!!! Love the concept bud!!!!
that is really awesome - I've been needing to make an anvil stand (smaller anvil) and that's a great inspiration. TY
That’s epic! Love it!
I like how painted your walls a dark colour too
Well conceived and executed ... beautiful work.
You sir are a true Genius, I would have never thought about putting a block together like that.
No Better Way To Start My Birthday Celebrations Than With A New Diresta Video, Thanks Jimmy.
I love Diresta's videos. No babbeling, just building.
So many great moments in this video! The hammering montage at the end gave me Hibachi grill vibes. Outstanding design! 👍👍
Love the landing gear style casters.
Freedom is everything, your idea is magnificent. congratulations. 👏👏👏
Great video Jimmy. I really don't where you get your ideas from. Brilliant.
Super cool. Great mechanism and man, that band saw is amazing.
Very useful & fantastic build @jimmydiresta, thanks for all you do sir.
There should be a game of spotting the number of “DiResta” written on things!! 😂. Love the video, great as always!! 👍
Nice WorkJimmy,I love that old Planer
Wonderfully produced and edited. Stunning result, happy metal bashing.
Incrível, simplicidade e praticidade em um projeto muito útil pra quem tem pouco espaço na oficina.
Love the action shots of getting the welder ready. Great video.
I need one of these to move my mother in law.
Charlie Alpha Hey Charlie! I just see your wife at the lawyer, divorce lawyer i think... 🤣
BAHAHAHAHAHA
Charlie, you will need to up size this and don't forget the one way seat belt.
Very cool mechanism for the rollers! That ending was awesome!
When the wheels went on I said "Now here comes the Diresta Magic!". Nice work! Saw you on "Making It"... good to see that you are getting more exposure!
love the build, and the edit was awesome! Didn't feel the need to skip forward at any point, had a good flow. :)
That is exactly why I love and appreciate DiResta’s videos! No face time blah blah blah. He just gets down to it!
Loved the repeated welder prep clip lol. Great mechanism for the casters! - Jim
Awesome mechanism and even more awesome edit. Couldn't stop smiling the whole way through!
☺️👊🏼🙏🏼
Once again I have been Educated and Entertained in one easy package ... Stay Well, my brother.
Great video, brilliant design, nice work.
The lift mechanism for the wheels is pretty slick. May have to adapt that for my forging block. It's a 13x20x6 chunk of solid steel. it's currently not very mobile, at all, and I'm not happy with the base for it that I cobbled together 15 years ago.
Great design! I’m gonna do something similar! Great body of work you got my man
Hey Jimmy.Don't listen to these other comments. That darn thing is a work of art.And it has major impact distribution, you can place it where ever you want.At least I that;s what I think you are shooting for.I could be wrong.Keep up the excellent work
Love the video! The ending was funny and you did the Segway part, that was the best! I want to make something like this but I want it to be a vice stand 😁
Love the new editing style - feels a little like Hand Tool Rescue. Which is no bad thing
I think (from watching) you could deploy the wheels by stepping on that bar and then release it with the toe of your boot.
Fantastic work by the way. I've been looking for a tree cutoff to bang on when I hammer stuff doing woodworking. I think I might make this instead and also use it to sit on (minus the welding).
what a cool mechanism for moving it the anvil around! Great video as always :D
That was really fun to watch. You are so inspiring.
Fantastic work, Jimmy! 😃
Beautiful and useful! 😃
Incredibly awesome job!👍 amazing work
Awesome 👍 Love the repeating scene how you prepare for welding 😁
1:05 Now THAT is a thickness planer with chest hair! And the project!... Engineering so simple seeming there must be genius behind it. Thanks for another great vid, Jimmy!
Excellent video, I really enjoyed you problem solving the mechanism for the wheels.
Fun! Great project. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! Super awesome build. Super awesome anvil. Lost me a little on the full metal top but heck I'm a big old dummy. That thing is bad to the bone!!
Just Amazing. the wheel setup is nice!
I can see these popping up on alot of smithy vids very soon! Awesome!
Very smart and cool! One of my favorite Diresta videos!
I guess I know what I’m doing this weekend! Awesome design!
Love the multi positional blacksmithing at the end for effect :}
Парень твоим детям повезло.Столько разных инструментов и прибамбасов!!!!!
Truly inspiring work!
This is what I envisioned I was making when I created an anvil stand... My results varied.
I think God needed help envisioning some stuff so he created Jimmy.
Man wasn't made in the likeness of God. We're all variations of Jimmy.
My results often ... vary.
It's like something off Pinterest that nobody else can duplicate. lol :)
Jimmy, your a genius with how you did that. Keep up the awesome work 👊🏻
