I had just watched a live show with Kim and Savoy Brown. during the breaks i came up to the stage in this Chicago suburb club and asked Kim about his amps and guitars and stuff and mentioned i'm in a small local band. Kim was very humble and supportive and we talked about music. At closing time, i got a T-shirt and got Kim to sign the back. I said too bad its closing time i really liked the music. So to my surprise Kim says "it ain't closin time for me how about we go have a pint"?? I was amazed. So we head back to the bar and had a few beers and talked blues and guitars and music for some time. I am truly blessed to have had that experience with a LEGEND like Kim. I hope you read this Kim... it was a evening i will always remember! THANKS KIM!!
I, too met him; in a bar in Jacksonville, NC. When I walked into the back room, he was alone, warming up with his Flying V and a Fender "Champ Amp"! I couldn't believe it; I had that same amp! I still have the picture we took together. Your post is typical of Kim...a very likable, approachable, non-status guy. Glad you had that experience, and hope you still have the T-shirt! (:
At 75, Kim and any version of Savoy Brown go straight to the roots of my heart and memory. Loved his shows and always hoped to see him again and thought it might happen in the Spring of 2023. Then came December of 2022. Still hard to accept his loss. RIP, sir. This is a great video. Thank you.
Mine was the very first album, "Shake Down," which my military dad brought me from the UK around the time it came out. I continue to love everything SB did, through the Lonesome Dave years. Simmonds had one of the best tones & attacks in any form of rock, IMO. Brilliant player.
I've followed them since the late 60's, 70's, 80's...days of Chris Youldon. Have met Kim Simmonds 3 times and have one of his picks. This band rocks like earlier times and is really tight! One of the best guitarists ever.
I'm lucky I have the live CD of this gig and this band. Found it by accident at a local used record shop here in Nashville. The disc was even signed by Kim! I listen to it just about every day. Unbelieveable jams. Got all the classic tunes too. Kim is the MAN. This was one of Kim's best groups. So tight. These guys just jell on every tune.

The whole CD is recorded so good and it's well-balanced in that your hear ALL the guys in the band, especially Kim.
I saw Kim Simmons and Savoy Brown in Daytona, Fl in the early 70's. He was incredible, one of the best guitarist I saw live, and I've been fortunate to have seen most of them.
So as was the rest of the British Invasion bringing their brand of the blues and rock to NA . Savoy Brown is the best band ever that only a few of us true music lovers knew about I think I have every lp they put out. I saw Foghat at a local bar and I was inches from Kim trying to hold people back. It was awesome.

Albums like Looking In and jams like this are the perfect rationale for a way back machine. SMOKIN blues-rock! I was 14 when I bought it and have owned it in every format: 1) cassette; 2) LP; 3) CD. STILL own the original cassette from 1970.

Ronnie White where did u see them? they toured the west on a double bill with Fleetwood Mac in late 71, or two, just before the hell bound train came out. Did both the title cut and "all I can do". blew me away.
❤ Kim Simmonds... any other Nation on Earth would have made him a National Treasure and giving him a public stipend of 100,000 pounds a year just to walk around and tell people what's going on with that guitar of his
Yes he's a bit.. er.. aloof.. known him for years and he still says "do I know you?" every time we meet ;-).. @thekeifernet laurie wisefield as wishbone ash is all but unknown; but my guitarist larry glenn before he died loved those guys; and Camel; who did the version of "White Rider" we used to play in Atla in SF long ago' try to find THAT song ha ha ha !!
@christopherthelast Actually it is Andy Powell who plays the flying vee not Laurie Wiesfield. Andy has kept the WA chugging alongtouring all these years and former original member Bassist Martin Turner also made a comeback with his version of the band They have never toured the USA though.
really cool song and video. no one could match (in my opinion) chris youlden's voice on his songs. did a song called, life's one act play. first song i heard by them in the late sixties. somewhat dark and disturbing but interesting at the time.
RIP Kim Simmonds

@thekeifernet laurie wisefield as wishbone ash is all but unknown; but my guitarist larry glenn before he died loved those guys; and Camel; who did the version of "White Rider" we used to play in Atla in SF long ago' try to find THAT song ha ha ha !!
absolutely brilliant!
Wow killer, Kim's not a bad singer. Love Lookin' In
@christopherthelast
Actually it is Andy Powell who plays the flying vee not Laurie Wiesfield.
Andy has kept the WA chugging alongtouring all these years and former original
member Bassist Martin Turner also made a comeback with his version of the band
They have never toured the USA though.
really cool song and video. no one could match (in my opinion) chris youlden's voice on his songs. did a song called, life's one act play. first song i heard by them in the late sixties. somewhat dark and disturbing but interesting at the time.
