Kim Simmonds: Most underrated guitarist ever. Can play circles around Clapton, Beck, Gary Moore, Peter Green, the whole lot.He's still DOING IT...always has a kick-ass band with him. This version of "I'm Tired" is SO COOL. The bass player has got that heavy HEAVY bottom. Grea drummer. Kudos to this band. Keep it GOING KIM!

Ok..i'll comment. Having been a Savoy fan for nearly 30 Years . I have to say this is one excellent performance by Kim and Company. And a Very good sounding & looking video Freddy .
Having seen Kim Simmonds and band perform live multiple times in the early 70s and in the early 2000s, I can say that Kim is an excellent rock and blues guitarist.
kybourbonboy: As someone who saw them many times between late '67 and the end of '69 I can say that Simmons is merely average as a guitar player. Back then London was up to it's bottom lip in better guitar players than him! The thing that made the Youlden band worth seeing, apart from his voice, was the collective noise they made. Youlden left because of the way the band was run. Pretty soon the rest of the band left Simmons, because he was calling the shots, and they all thought he was no great shakes as a guitarist, and a complete jerk as a boss! They thought they could do better without him, and they were right. Certainly as far as success goes Foghat were far bigger! You have to understand Simmons and his Dad ran the band, the rest of them were on a wage! If you didn't like it, you were out! Thats what happened. Pretty soon everyone...................was out, except Simmons, who kept THE NAME and milked it for the rest of his life! Good luck to him. His alternative was what? Driving a van?
I won't debate that the revolving personnel were due to Kim's way of running things. But when I saw him several times since 2003 I thought he was a pretty guitarist. IMO he made serious mistakes from a business point of view by failing to keep good band members. Especially vocalists, since he is a very weak singer at best.

I've been a fan almost as long. I bought "Blue Matter" in '68, and then quickly bought the older stuff. Someday, Simmonds will be recognized as a great genius. He successfully fuses progressive blues-rock with jazz. His greatest fault? Not having a solid vocalist as a front man. Losing Chris Youlden was a great mistake and a greater shame. However, if there's a list somewhere of the ten better guitarists, I have yet to see it. Kim's in a class by himself.

The original guitar solo was maybe 20 seconds and said a lot. I've just suffered through ten minutes of drivel here and never heard anything close to what he did in the 70's.

Lucky I got to see Savoy Brown in 1975/76, when Paul Raymond was on keyboards and Dave Bidwell was on drums. One of the BEST concerts ever. They always stole the show from the headliners back then.
