RIP Kim Simmons, taught me how to boogie. Loved this band. Gave birth to Foghat. The best always smile when they play. Battled Stage 4 colon cancer for the last year. Relevent? Foundational. And now tears.
I had a chance to chat with Kim many years back. Chris Youlden's name came up. He said that time period was the best 'Savoy Brown' lineup. When we talked about some of those songs he actually got a little misty eyed. That conversation, and the one I had with Buck Dharma a few years earlier are two of the best 'rock memories' I have.
I bought Raw Sienna way back and then bought every album they produced, you can actually here Kim improving and getting better every album. ASTOUNDING.
It’s always a pleasure to see a classic rock band, decades after their “prime”, still playing their hearts out and having fun, even on tracks they must have played hundreds if not thousands of times. And, oh, they sound goddamn amazing, too.
I'm from Coral Gables...although I did not see the 69 concert there....I did see the Doors concert at Dinner Key Auditorium, if you want to call that a concert?
Totally awsome! SB rocks even after 50yrs. Can't wait to finally meet the amazing Kim simmonds. I'll be his daughter in law in the near future when I marry his only son, Justin. Maybe I'll finally get to see him in concert, lol!!!
Saw them back in the 70's at Pirates World in Dania Florida. Went to almost all the concerts at Pirates World, just remember some of them, and Savoy Brown was a memorable one. Thought the bleachers were gonna fall down with the rock and roll.
When i was 17 i worked for Steve Glance productions at the Palace in Detroit i had heard Savoy Brown on the radio Tell Mama was played alot when they played live at the palace it was just like the record great sound and calass act muscians!! really good peopel no stupid shit that some bands would do ( Steve Tyler) lol but i worked two showes for them same as the first show awesome professionals! Never get tiered of hearing them esspecially Tell Moma
This is one of my favorite Song i was in College in the Philippines , now I'm living in the D.C. area i still love the song "Tell Mama why i'm leaving so soon".
Savoy Brown did not go down the commericial road that record labels, managers and promoters wanted, so, they maintained their niche status and stayed true to their art. That is why they did not get the notoriety that say, ZZ Top and others did.
Andy Thomas ALOT of their competition fell by the wayside.Savoy Brown Foghat...musical gems from the British invasion. STILL ROCKIN'... THAT'S Success.
Wow , Fillmore East 1969, Original lineup, opened for BS&T, great times never to be forgotten, can always go back to places but never the times,,,,,sadly.
Saw Kim and Savoy Brown 3 different times the best time was 1973 in Tampa Florida at Tampa Stadium Deep Purple Savoy Brown Blue Oysters cult an ZZ TOP and Billy Preston who cancelled. The voice came over the load speaker lady and gentlemen Billy Preston has cancelled if you would like a refund please go to the ticket counter. I looked around at people. I didn't see one person leave. That was the good old days Deep Purple played smoke on the water and Savoy Brown rocked that concert ZZ TOP WAS ALSOME BLUE OYSTER CULT PRIME
How did a Brit band end up in Central New York with Joe Whiting on sax??? Joe is from a tiny town called Skaneateles! Ever heard of it? And Kim Simmons is going on several decades of Savoy Brown.
Heiekin bottle? where's the beer bottle Kim? LOL, best version I saw of this, They were playing in Toronto at the Elmacambo, I drove there to buy Savoy Brown tix, and the sales clerk says, They are playing just down the street. Well at break time I mosied up to the break room and knocked ( you have to look like you own the place) and hung out with Kim, Richie on drums and "DC" on bass, And I wrote Savoy Brown with sharpie on the wall ( hey, it has to be someone else, Kim thought it was funny). '79-'81 somewhere in there
MfG, Jerry
Quit my job, ain't got no money Seems I have to leave this town Packed my bags, run to the station Board the train that's eastward bound Tell mama and all the folks back home Sometimes a man just feels He's got to make it alone Tell mama why I'm leaving so soon Because this life I live Has got me sick through and through Nothing to do, that's why I had to go Seemed no use in hanging 'round I can't stop now, the ticket's in my hand Board the train that's eastward bound Tell mama and all the folks back home Sometimes a man just feels He's got to make it alone Tell mama why I'm leaving so soon Because this life I live Has got me sick through and through Quit my job, ain't got no money Seems I have to leave this town Tell mama and all the folks back home Sometimes a man just feels He's got to make it alone Tell mama why I'm leaving so soon Because this life I live Has got me sick through and through

Brings back so many great memories.
Too bad so few kids today have no clue what real music is.
Agree
Played by actual "Musicians" on actual "Instruments"!!
Brilliant....nothing better....
These guys still got it!!! They sound just like they did in the 70s. And for a live recording, this is incredible!!
Absolutely Wonderiffic Band! Another brilliant WELSH musician in KIM SIMMONDS!
Yeah Savoy Brown Rock with quality music never fade
STREET CORNER TALKING .... one of my favorite albums of all time ... not a bad tune on it
Saw these guys in the 60's with the classic lineup. "lookin in" one the best Boogie Blues albums ever!
I bought Raw Sienna way back and then bought every album they produced, you can actually here Kim improving and getting better every album.
ASTOUNDING.
Hernando 's.Hideaway...
Savoy Brown with a sax. I'd have never believed it.
They still sound great!!
It’s always a pleasure to see a classic rock band, decades after their “prime”, still playing their hearts out and having fun, even on tracks they must have played hundreds if not thousands of times. And, oh, they sound goddamn amazing, too.
couldn't agree more...SB, Uriah Heep, Pat Travers, et al, knew how to rock
Heeeeell yes to that!!!!
i've played this song in bar bands decades ago without knowing who did it.seeing who does it & i love them!!
I listen to this every day.......Tell Mama........
Been listening to this song for decades ..always love it...such memories
Great song, written by Kim Simmonds and the late great Paul Raymond, who went on to become a big part of the classic lineup of UFO.
Joe Whiting, the best Savoy Brown vocalist since Dave Walker!!! We want you back!
+John Louis I agree, he was very cool, a strange fit for some of the older material but a great showman
Chris Youlden no. 1
Well crafted........
I'm watching this rock n roll song one of my favorite I was in a high school I'm 59 now
I've seen them 4 times, and they are absolutely amazing. Ardy Sarraf is Paul McCartney on that stage!
This tune will never get old 🎸🎼🎸

I’m 60 and feel like I missed this band somehow.
Now u know how fun it was way back then. Thanks for the great music.

Sweet childhood memories: I saw this band perform in the 70'ties and they were GREAT! Sooo BRITISH! ❤💯💥👍
My All Time Favorite, Savoy Brown
I wasn't sure how a saxophone would work with this classic song, but it kicks ass........
Goes straight through the heart.....powerfull......
RIP Kim, you will be sorely missed.
they were the first band I ever saw live , back in 1969, a free concert in Coconut Grove,FL
been my favorite ever since.
I'm from Coral Gables...although I did not see the 69 concert there....I did see the Doors concert at Dinner Key Auditorium, if you want to call that a concert?
I use to live in the Gables near CG.
Totally awsome! SB rocks even after 50yrs. Can't wait to finally meet the amazing Kim simmonds. I'll be his daughter in law in the near future when I marry his only son, Justin. Maybe I'll finally get to see him in concert, lol!!!
Good ol' Coconut Grove!
Lucky you! WOW
This is just a perfectly written blues song.
I appreciate this tune more over the years.
Thanks for this. When I saw them as a kid I thought 'now I get rock n roll'
Saw them back in the 70's at Pirates World in Dania Florida. Went to almost all the concerts at Pirates World, just remember some of them, and Savoy Brown was a memorable one. Thought the bleachers were gonna fall down with the rock and roll.

What you’re seeing here is the future of Foghat
Damn! This is better than the vinyl cut!!
Been a fan since Street Corner Talking spun that vinyl to the ground....such a raw garage band...awesome & phenomenal
Long Live Savoy Brown!!!! 2/13/ 2022 Philippines
why didnt they become more famous?? awesome band!!
Savoy Brown did not go down the commericial road that record labels, managers and promoters wanted, so, they maintained their niche status and stayed true to their art.
That is why they did not get the notoriety that say, ZZ Top and others did.
The competition was better! They looked like shit! Both could have something to do with it!
Their frequent line up changes didn't help too.
That's funny you say that. Do you know Foghat came from SB? Lonesome Dave Prevent and Rod Price were once memners. Come on People!

How did a Brit band end up in Central New York with Joe Whiting on sax??? Joe is from a tiny town called Skaneateles! Ever heard of it? And Kim Simmons is going on several decades of Savoy Brown.

Quit my job, ain't got no money
Seems I have to leave this town
Packed my bags, run to the station
Board the train that's eastward bound
Tell mama and all the folks back home
Sometimes a man just feels
He's got to make it alone
Tell mama why I'm leaving so soon
Because this life I live
Has got me sick through and through
Nothing to do, that's why I had to go
Seemed no use in hanging 'round
I can't stop now, the ticket's in my hand
Board the train that's eastward bound
Tell mama and all the folks back home
Sometimes a man just feels
He's got to make it alone
Tell mama why I'm leaving so soon
Because this life I live
Has got me sick through and through
Quit my job, ain't got no money
Seems I have to leave this town
Tell mama and all the folks back home
Sometimes a man just feels
He's got to make it alone
Tell mama why I'm leaving so soon
Because this life I live
Has got me sick through and through
Tell momma why I’m leaving so soon, because this life I leave has got me sick through and through ............fact
