    Not only our work is copied, but then we're punished by Etsy because of that. They say my items aren't handmade while they give Etsy pick badges to the copycats 🤦🏻‍♀️ It's so exhausting and discouraging. And you have no one to talk to there! They won't listen. I'm working on my own site, like many legit sellers, I'm so done with Etsy not supporting us at all.

    I want my own website but my biggest problem is driving traffic.. This year on Etsy most of my views came from Etsy app and other pages and Etsy search. And the least is Social Media...so... I might have to stick with Etsy :))

    The cost has definitely been what has been making me wait but with how bad Etsy has been, I am starting to rethink it.

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  5 місяців тому +1

      This is totally understandable. It was the cost that put me off for so long too. In the end I just hated that the only way I could get consistent sales on Etsy month on month was to work hard at driving my own traffic there. If you end up having to do that then you may as well have your own space and more control. But it is a leap so you do need to feel ready. You'll know if and when the time is right for you. 💚

    I was just copied🫤I painted Peter Rabbit’s jacket in my painting as a scarecrow. And someone who follows me, used the jacket in her painting too like that, very fast after I did. I never know if it is a coincidence and of course it is in the story of Peter like that, but it was the second time. Gave me a weird feeling. And not necessary for that person, because she is much more successful than me. Thanks for the video Kim, always great! I am drawing and you talk, a perfect combination😄❤

      Oh Inez, I'm so sorry. I understand though. It's happened to me too and I think a lot of people think that it's smaller creators that do all of the copying. In my experience though it's often the larger ones, and it can be very demotivating.

    I'm based in Portugal, and like in much of the EU, it's required to register as a business to open a shop. Taxes are high, and on top of that, there are monthly fees for the shop, plus advertising costs. I'm also required to share my home address since I work from home. With the constant new regulations and hefty fines, it's really holding me back from starting a shop. I'd love to find a platform similar to Etsy where I can start from scratch with minimal investment, but one that isn't so US-centred, overcrowded, or glitchy. Surely there must be smaller, well-functioning platforms out there! Does anyone have any ideas? Kim? Any suggestions?

    I'm still selling on etsy. I sell my knits. All made by meeeee. I'm hesitant to jump to a website because my sales are slightly seasonal. I don't sell as much during the late spring and summer. Etsy is obnoxious with their fees. I really want to raise the price of my beanies but if I do then I'm over the $35 and that means free shipping. Which means I have to raise the prices even further to include shipping. Which means I end up with a beanie that I think looks a little expensive. Wondering what you think about people who sell items that are seasonal or slightly seasonal, jumping ship from etsy to a website.

      I actually don't find it any harder than on Etsy although I should point out that I don't sell to the EU as I found that quite unpredictable. It may be smoother going now, but from my own experience (even on Etsy) was too stressful so I made the decision not to sell there until things improve.
      From a tax perspective, I would advise everyone to seek their own advice from a professional tax adviser as what you will need to do will depend on so many things that may differ from seller to seller. Things like the country you're doing business from, the countries your selling to, what thresholds apply (if at all), even what products you sell can have implications. So I don't give out advice on that at all.

If we're building a business online then every part of it is built on someone else's ground. That being said, some platforms are more reliable, stable and give you more control than others. @@the.toxic.phoenix you've probably seen tons of them, they are all "independent" though, because you can assign your own domain name to your shop on Shopify. I've not heard of bots shutting down a Shopify site. The do have terms of service, so read those. You can list your items on Google Merchant Centre which is where you set up Google shopping. There you can set up free listings and have your products shown up in Google shopping for free. I do find it all tonne quite confusing though if I'm honest, but I seem to doing OK with it.

    Don't you find it difficult to add products and take off products from both websites it seems to be so time-consuming

      Not at all actually! But then I don't have hundreds of listings so it's not an issue. Also a lot of my listings have been made so I don't run out if one is sold. Its just my finished embroidered work that needs to be managed and that literally just takes a few seconds when a sale comes in.

    Tried Etsy. Not a fruitful experience, at least not for me. Felt like I was being played with like a cat plays with its mouse victim. Never again.
