So - Technically speaking, should I be starting off low (price-wise) for my custom artwork and then slowly building up? Basically, taking a slight loss at first but building up traction?

I paint realistic beaches and ocean using oil and acrylic as a hobby and have sold some canvases, I also do pod and never thought of it as an artistic way it's not artistic at all, I basically download and add and make a simple design, I make what people are buying, if I used my art on clothes people would never ever buy but definitely I can see why putting it on coaster or pillow would be a functional idea
