  • AMD has brought their X3D V-cache processor technology to mobile CPUs with the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D in the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 gaming laptop for 2023. We reviewed this laptop in April 2023 with the non-X3D version of the CPU inside, and they are otherwise identical (including an RTX 4090 GPU with Advanced Optimus and a 240Hz QHD display). You can watch that video here for a complete review of all laptop features: • 2023 Asus ROG Strix Sc... . In this video we focus on performance, benchmark and gaming. The laptop runs remarkably cool and quiet when gaming, with some of the best frame rates in the business and excellent frametimes.

    Need this CPU in a Legion Pro 7. ROG Strix Scar 17 is not only a 3+ years old design, it's also huge and cheap feeling

    Seems like AMD has made the top gaming CPU this generation. We should see improvements next year when Zen 5 comes out.
    One interesting question is if other vendors will offer this. I could see this with the Legion 9 that was just announced.

    I never think of "laptops" as laptops. I think of them as very transportable desktop computers. Putting one on your lap, in my opinion, is asking for trouble. When it slips off and crashes onto the floor, and it will fall, remember, I told you so.

    Hopefully in late 2024, early 2025 we see several Fire Range X3D laptops than just the single ASUS sku like in 2023

    I truly hope ASUS would update this with a 16:10 MiniLED screen, a sleeker chassis design, and the overall build quality.

    I am an Asus ROG G15 (2022 model) owner.
    I am trying to RMA that laptop because it has a defective iGPU (AMD Radeon 680M inside the AMD Ryzen 7 6800HS CPU made by AsusTek),
    and have been definitely REGRETting buying it. (yes continously regretting)
    If I see an Asus laptop post in my feed, I feel the need to inform the good people of internet about what they may confront with.
    Don't buy from Asus because their products have issues(mostly QA-quality assurance) and their EU RMA contractors are not helpful.

    Any word on when asus will actually launch or give us definitive prices on this? Seems like they forgot about their own product, considering the official launch should have been a few days ago…

    16:9 aspect ratio is 1,000% better than 16:10 not sure why you stated second class. Not all games support 16:10 most people hate black bars on there screen while gaming.. i returned my M18 for this reason

    At this moment, would you choose this laptop in the 16" variant over the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with the i9-13900 and RTX 4080?
    I've been looking at getting the Lenovo (better price with a senior citizen discount), but this ASUS is attractive and tempting.

      That Legion is an excellent gaming laptop. Keep in mind this Asus model a higher end GPU and CPU, so it depends on the performance level you want and can afford. Also this one will run cooler and quieter, if that matters to you.

      I had it over 2 years and the hinge still excellent. Though mine is 15.6" scar 15 2021, but the hinge is the same as the 17.3".

    The quality of Asus laptops has dropped a lot, you have a good processor configuration, video card, but you can't enjoy them because the monitor is very weak in my opinion. Once again, I own Asus gaming models from 10 years ago and the build quality is much better than the cheap plastic that they sell very expensively now.

    As long as AMD can't get this chips into premium chassis they will always be seen as cheap brand compared to Nvidia/Intel. Lisa clearly failed to change that mentality among vendors

      Not sure if you intended to make it sound like the fault lies with her and her only, but that's still a pretty bizarre and ignorant take any way you look at it. Plenty of critical darlings become commercial disappointments, or become unobtanium because of supply constraints.

    • @DeepteshLovesTECH
      @DeepteshLovesTECH Рік тому

      @@Kuriketto OP is wrong but not entirely. The problem with AMD is supply. AMD cannot guarantee supply, so OEMs can't trust their flagship chasis with AMD.

    • @Kuriketto
      @Kuriketto Рік тому +1

      @@DeepteshLovesTECH Supply may be an issue, but I doubt that anybody researching high-end gaming laptops views AMD as the "cheap" brand rather than the perenially under-represented or out-of-stock option due to demand.

    • @blkspade23
      @blkspade23 Рік тому

      In part, some of what you'd consider a premium chassis is something co-designed with Intel in the first place. Of the major OEMs the worst offender in avoiding good AMD designs is Dell, and I sense that has more to do with their history with Intel, than an actual lack of confidence in AMD. Lenovo on the other hand has been the friendliest to AMD. HP falls somewhere in between.
      Regardless of how you feel about this particular Asus, the fact that it's being paired with a 4090 is the bigger deal. The ROG Strix G14 was basically an AMD exclusive chassis which was upper mid in spec and build. It was never paired with a top GPU though. I recently came a across an AMD based Razer Blade, which was shocking to find out it existed.
