- Finally getting some seat time in the Waka OG. Waka designed the OG to be a modernized and scaled-up version of the original Tuna which they brought over from the Bliss-Stick days.
The OG has large amounts of volume, and seats the paddler quite low which gives a sense of being locked into the outfitting, and extreme stability. The performance of the boat is quite wonderful, although at times it is not as forgiving bouncing off rocks as some other designs. The OG is extremely well suited for deeper, larger volume runs and cutting through pushy lines.

My trip reports and vlogs from my whitewater kayaking adventures. Many of these videos are from northern New York, but they also include my international travel to Africa, Chile, Canada, and more!
From freestyle kayaking, to big whitewater, to kayaking waterfalls, anything whitewater kayaking will make it's way into this vlog.
Key Words: Whitewater, Kayak, Raft, Canoe, Waterfall, Surf, Freestyle, Free Ride, Extreme, Adventure, Camping, Wilderness, River, Rapids, Paddle, Vlog,
Tip: Carry a break down spare paddle, or a pair of hand paddles. Saves the day and will even save a long walk out.
Lol on a run that's less than a mile? Pass
@@AlexBarham Despite the short run, it still is a good tip.
I disagree. I am not going to load my boat down with all sorts of "what if" gear and be forced to paddle a barge. It is a sport of calculated risks. This is worth it
@@AlexBarham Good Luck! If all you do is play boat around and are only a few steps from your shuttle. As a paddler of 40 years, with many types of whitewater trips experienced, I have seen myself and many a fellow paddler in need of an extra or two. On one occasion, two of my friends broke their paddles and we were still 30 miles from our take out. I shared my paddle and my spare with them and used my hand paddles to finish the trip. It would have been a rough trip for them if I was not prepared. Take my tip or leave it. Just friendly food for thought.
The answer is; 4 piece breakdown paddle in the back of the boat. That said, l learned that by hand paddling to the take out more then once.
Maybe, maybe not. I'm not one to advocate for a kitchen sink approach to loading boats. Just paddle out with one blade or walk off if you're near a road.
agree a split/ 4 piece should be apart of safety gear in a team just like first aid or PLB.
Sam, I'm seeing you make a few comments without situational awareness so allow me to explain; this run is about a mile long, and has a shore road. Bringing a breakdown would only amount to dead weight. Moreover, clearly paddling out wasn't a big deal either.
been there, done that, and had 4 more miles to go
Lol thankfully I was at the takeout
The last 30 seconds are a mystery. Cutting trees in the woods and a ski lift.
More to come
Looks like a great day, hiccups, but good flow!
I call breaking gear and swimming a rough one lol
@@AlexBarham you were just showing off that cross bow ability lol. Breaking(losing) gear does suck but we're all between swims...
@@andrewnau433 I guess lol
Alex I just picked up a Flying Squirrel 95 and was wondering if you know what part will fit this hull it still has the ratchets but needs everything else . Anyway nice video and I am grateful for you advice
So you're missing the seat? Any modern logic seat from another large boat would be a good candidate
Alex Barham thanks I’ll send you a picture when I get it back together
Sounds good! Good luck!
Who was that in the MRC open tandem? Also, I swam there.
Not exactly sure, but a college group maybe?
Did you ever find out about the waka grab handles. They still kinda sketch me out as an engineer
I asked what testing they are doing and got a video of one being hit by a hammer and bent back and forth in a bench vice for less than a minute from Kenny. EG told me he isn't aware of a team member using one in an extraction, but that they have broken on rock impacts before.
What river is this?
Taylorville section of the Beaver
Alex Barham thanks dude! Love the channel!
