Great to see some one using a draw knife to rough the scales instead of heading straight to a belt sander. I use a spoke shave and it is so quick without the noise and dust.
Ok, so I've been watching a few of your video and wondering (mainly because of your stature that you've presented in videos) how old are you? and how long have you been smithing? I personal just picked up smithing and woodworking as a hobby, but your methods sometimes seem unorthodox, til i see the outcome, like the re-bar being turned to a gladius, i thought that was crazy....
Great video. Just as a tip, forging to refine the grain structure is a myth and is not recognized as a method in the knife making community. Good literature on heat treatment can be found on Kevin Cashen's website.
+Fsims 97 I don't trust Murray Carter's ideology. Kevin Kashen is on the ABS board and has done metallurgical research beyond a Master's degree of education. Not to mention it's what is used in industry. So, if you want to believe that mystical stuff, go for it. But there is science to back it up. You can't move molecules closer together by forging things cold...
Hello, i saw your video about your matchlock (the newest one) can you please send me a picture of the mechanism becouse i really want to make a musket similar to yours
DasFricis There is not really much to it, the hammer is directly attached to the trigger so it moves simultaneously and has a spring that automatically moves the hammer back when you fire it.

And is seams that the blade is cracked at the edge, near the handle.propably because off the cold forging.
+Morten Trolle That is not a crack, it is a spot where two layers didn't completely weld together.
Beautiful! You forge really thin, how do you remove forge scale?
+munckmb I just grind it off

+Nathanael Weiss Actually, Murray Carter, and many other Japanese smiths do it. I think I can take Murray's word on if it work, or not.

That's supposed to be Kevin Cashen, excuse the typo.
