Ya, I think it was optional on some of the pre 1985 models. It became more common on 1987 and beyond. I was still able to use my analog bag phone up until about 2001. Here in the US anyway you could still buy phone prepaid cards for these until about 2001.
@@stansmith4054 thanks for the follow up , I’m using a fat phone in a film script I’m writing and I was like I need to be sure if I said she hit redial that the phone actually has redial otherwise wise that’s kind of a Continuity and Historicalproblem🤣

these phones are for use on analogue networks where as everyone uses digital now, they won’t work “out the box” that’s for sure

An 80’s analogue definitely won’t work but you shouldn’t have any problems with a 90’s digital one, the battery will always be it’s weak point though
